Urrrrm cheers for that Dwight. Thanks for stating the bleeding obvious. Another earth shattering 442 story - sheer quality. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article 'Strong A-League Will Boost Bid'? FORMER Sydney FC favourite Dwight Yorke believes the standard of the A-League needs to improve in order to boost Australia's chances of hosting the World Cup in 2022.Have your say.

So... a retiree coming back to play for an A-League team says the league needs to be stronger.
We might make a start by stopping the gimmicky recruitment of retirees.

Notorganic, Hes making a guest appearance in a friendly, not signed up for the season. Some of you blokes need to get a life. It must be terrible being a complete misery all the time.
Smile at someone, its contagious.
Well done FFT - keep plugging the A-League. Personnally can wait for the new season, and want to know all the goss.

I'm aware that he's only around for a friendly.
It doesn't matter, it's gimmicky. It's taking valuable game time experience away from players that will actually contribute to the future of this league.
(I smile quite a bit, actually, especially when old people fall down in the street)

I think it's great Dwight comments on such issues - whilst it's nothing new it great to see he's still interested in the a-league - as argueably the best player to play in the A-League (That should spark a reaction) I think he has a right to talk.

Fishing for a reaction with ridiculous statements like that won't get you too many. Yorke was arguably the best player for Season 1. The A-League has moved on, it's a shame that Sydney have not.

Certainly not fishing for a response but thank you for yours - I'm not a Sydney FC fan but still believe Dwight would easily be in the top 3 or 4 players that has competed in the A-League and i welcome his comments.

Yorke was easily the best player to play in the A-League. Evidence, he went and played a season in the Epl after helping Sunderland get promotion. Can we name any other player that is capable of this after leaving the A-League. And yes Fowler is past it.

Dwights revelation is a bit of a catch 22. If we miss out on the WC the standard will slowly improve. If we get the WC the quality will get a turbo boost.

Personally I think Dwight would be better off spending some time With his child and getting to know him a little better. But thats just me.

And considering the new season starts in August and the decision is in December doesn't give the a-league a whole lot of time to dramatically improve. I expect the standard will be a notch better than last year and that small continuous improvements will occur with every new season but it's not going improve out of sight between now and December.

South Africa's domestic league isn't the highest standard and it didn't effect their bid

I don't think the league really has too much influence on the result/outcome of our bid. Its the amount of people coming to watch football that counts.
