Three points are a must for Tweed

IF Tweed Heads want to continue to stay in touch with and push the top three then they must come away from their clash with Robina City this afternoon with maximum points.

Traditionally a bogey side for the fourth-placed Kangaroos, seventh-placed Robina has already restricted Tweed to one point earlier in the season.

This time though, Tweed does boast home-ground advantage at Arkinstall Park, but whether it can capitalise remains to be seen.

With 10 goals in their last two triumphs and a 2-2 draw with undefeated front-runners Merrimac the round before, Roger Hoy’s men are in a good run of form with seven rounds remaining.

Eleven rounds in, Tweed has the second-best defensive record in the Gold Coast first division and fourth-best attack with six wins and two draws to its credit.

Conversely, while Robina has scored just three goals less, it has leaked an additional 11 in its three wins and a draw.

Statistically everything lines up for a win to Tweed, and it is one it needs.

In a round that could have much bearing on the make-up of the top five, Merrimac battles eighth-placed Burleigh Heads, United Eagles, in second, play fifth-placed Griffith Uni, Mudgeeraba lies in third and meets winless Musgrave, and sixth-placed Tugun tackle cellar-dwellers Kingscliff.

If results go according to table position then, the only shake-up would be that would Tugun leapfrog Griffith into fifth, but that the gap between fourth (Tweed) and fifth would increase from one to three points.

Tweed would remain three points from Mudgeeraba which is two behind United, which is a further two adrift of Merrimac.

However, should Tweed not come away with all three it would inevitably slip away from the top three and closer into the grasp of Tugun and Griffith, who will both be vying for the fourth finals spot.
