Netherlands duo Robin Van Persie and Joris Mathijsen have been given the all clear to play in their side's World Cup semi-final against Uruguay.

There had been fears over the pair's fitness after Mathijsen pulled up in the warm-up before the Oranje's quarter-final victory over Brazil, while Van Persie hurt his elbow during the match.

But hospital tests revealed their respective knocks would not rule them out of Netherlands' semi-final in Cape Town on Tuesday, handing coach Bert van Marwijk a massive boost ahead of the game.

"Neither scan on Van Persie or Mathijsen showed any serious damage and both are fit to play against Uruguay," a statement from the Dutch FA said.
