Blatter recognised for development work
(FIFA.com) Tuesday 6 July 2010

On Monday 5 July 2010, FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter was presented with the Golden Key Recognition Trophy by the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, near Johannesburg. The accolade recognises President Blatter’s contribution to the development of football in Africa and the success of the first FIFA World Cup™ to be staged on the continent.

The trophy was established this year by Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality under the banner of the Africa International Sport Convention (CISA), an initiative from events and sports management consulting organisation JAPPO aimed at developing sport in Africa.

"I am very honoured to receive this award," said the head of world football's governing body. "The important thing is that FIFA keeps up its efforts in the field of development, particularly with regard to education and health."

The Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Councillor Ntombi Mekgwe, who hosted the prize-giving event, underlined that FIFA not only organised the FIFA World Cup in Africa but also continually supports development projects on the continent, the Goal Programme being an excellent example of such tailor-made projects.
