Wow. Really.

Talk about bias. No question Van Bommel and De Jong should have been sent, but equally so Puyol should have gone too.

Spain is the same as Barca. In their pressing to regain the ball they commit as many fouls as the teams trying to stop them. Shirt pulling, arms all of the place, hacking...

The best team was Germany. They played the most exciting football, in which they are as marginally more likely to score as to concede. That is how football should be played. None of this possession game, which bores the opposing team into defeat (literally. they become mentally tired, their patience and concentration wanes) and forces games like this one and the second leg of Inter vs. Barca to occur.

Best teams this year have been Bayern and Germany.

Macktheknife - I thought the same thing when I read the first couple paragraphs.... Craig Foster is using 'staff writer' as a nome de plume.

Poor 'Old' Danny Boy. Struggling with some disappointments in his own footballing life. Having watched all world cups since 66 i don't think DB has quite got it right. The Dutch should have won before and indeed the Spanish could and should have done better in previous world cups. This was not the best tournament but by no means was it the worst and there have been crap finals before.Italy over Brazil on penalties was pretty ordinary. Three major factors contributed to this final being disappointing. The ball, that ball at altitude and the Dutch trying to physically intimidate the Spanish in the same way Italy and Germany have found to be successful in counteracting Brazilian, French and Dutch flair and technique in the past.

From a pure football perspective, this has been the worst World Cup in history. Our writer wants to blame it all on the Dutch. He believes Spain are the saviours of football while everybody else is an enemy of the game. The truth is Spain have played well below their potential at this tournament and had that not been the case for practically every other side, they wouldn't have got anywhere near the final. Same with the Dutch.

If you've ever wondered why neither Spain or the Netherlands had won a World Cup until now... well now you know.

The final was a fitting finale to a shit tournament.

The writer is a cockfag.

Horrible article - what do you expect the Netherlands to do? Sit back and let them play?

Apart from De Jong's challenge I didn't see anything out of the ordinary and if Robben had buried his chance they could of very well been holding aloft the Cup.

Germany hardly played total defensive football, they are well balanced team and were a pleasure to watch. Not at all the contradiction that you claiming I am making.

Fuck off justice prevailed. If justice prevailed spain would have been KO'd in the group stage and that would have been Germany in the final.

 sour grapes anyone?

Spain played football and won. If you wanna see teams like Greece Euro 04 win tournament by parking buses in front of goal and relying on counter attacks then so be it. That shit is boring.

Germany IMO were the second best team despite the results - it's a shame they were not on the other side of the draw because they would have beaten the Dutch to get to the final.

You say Counter attacks are boring but then go on to say germant were the second best team yet they rely on counter attacks:roll:

Netherlands may have played more defensively but they still scored more goals than Spain over the tournament.

I agree with most writers. The writer must be Craig Foster's relative. What a biased report!! I agree with the General. Spain won 4 matches by the skin of their nose and Craig Foster has an orgasism that The " best team" won. What bullshit. He is a disgrace and his commentary is totally unprofessional.

The Spanish doshed out plenty and if one looks closely, the players milked every once with their flying and overacting.

On balance their passing game is very good, but gee wiz, Holland played well too and good have won it in regular time.

All that I ask for is fair unbiased reporting. That cannot happen with Sig Foster.

I am amazed that there were no red cards during the 90 minutes, but I am also amazed at how few yellow cards were handed out to Spain - not only did the Netherlands play a dirty game, so did the Spanish. The main difference was the Spanish got away with way more crap, and really Webb had no control over the game.

I actually agree with Afro, the best team at the tournament over its course was Germany - by far and away the best team to watch and the team that played the best football.

The thing about football - the important thing about football - is its not just about football.

The justice was that the Dutch didnt win the world cup. Robben and Van Bommel have behaved like this throughout the cup and for Bayern in the champions league this season.DeJong is just a thug, any wonder Man City want rid of him. Germany would have been worthy winners had they got there with their attacking style of play. Retrospective punishment needs to be bought in at the highest level of the game, some of the dutch players woudnt have played in the final if we already had it.

Agree in part with afromanGT. The game turned out to be a hackfest. The ref didn't have the balls to use the red card. Spain were deadset boring. If Spain is the future of football style then rather watching a gazillion passes from mid to back and backs to mids i'll go watch paint dry. It would be more interesting.

Germany were by far the more entertaining side and should have been playing the final. Then the Dutch could play their game and it would have been a goalfest which is what I enjoy about watching a game. Especially a world cup final.

Boooooooring.

What is with all the Dutch bashing? It's a bit rich to say the Dutch should have played Total Football when it didn't win them their previous two World Cup Final appearances.

The only thing that ruined the Final for me was the constant bashing of the Dutch by the comentators.

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article Dutch Shamed By Spanish Destiny?
SPANISH captain Iker Casillas lifted the World Cup to the African night sky as all of Spain celebrated the first World Cup triumph in their history - and justice prevailed.

Have your say.
