I'm surprised this is a new idea.

Australia overall has pretty good officials... I think that has been shown by some of the officiating at the World Cup.

Professionalism is the only way referees can bridge the gap in terms of making up the difference in how fast the modern game is. Time to funnel some of that money the way of the referees...

Edit: corrected a typo

Of course fully professional referees is the best solution - particularly if they under go continual training in the same way that all other professionals who are involved in a dynamic field are.

After the game, I heard a quick snipet from a Senior FIFA official saying that FIFA may look into developing younger referees quicker as the game has got faster and maybe younger refs are needed to stay with play.

I have to say, I 100% disagree with this notion as proven with the refereeing capabilities of the clowns that control the A-League. Many of these refs have been pushed through too early and have to say are rubbish.

Breeze having controlled the ACL final didnt get a look in at the World Cup as he had a RUBBISH past two season in the A-League. Chris Beath is rumoured to be the next FIFA referee...what a joke of a ref he is.

Streb I have to say is a very good referee and I can see him doing well in the future, but jokers like Williams, and Green having FIFA badges? WTF

Go professional 100% but pick refs on merit and not their age. There are some decent refs out there in Oz who are older but as they are 'too old' in the eyes of many who control refs in Oz, they will never get a look in which is a joke.

The celebrations in the Spain dressing room after their semi-final victory included a visit by Queen Sofia - and a video clip of the events appeared shortly afterwards on Spanish television.

The clip shows the Queen shaking hands with the squad while everyone claps in unison - while Sergio Ramos scampers around clearing away the dirty socks by the Royal guest's feet in case she slips on them. It ends with Queen Sofia herself clapping goalscorer Carles Puyol who is clad in only a towel.

But how did the video clip get into the hands of the TV channel? Simple, Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina filmed it on his mobile phone and then sent it to the TV people himself.

Perhaps the claim the Spain squad, officials and media are one big happy family is not just a myth.

Cannot imagine Harry or Timmy doing our bunch of media misfits any such favours.
