am i the only person in the world who thinks that webb did a really fantastic job refereeing in this match? the only thing he didn't do was send off some netherlands players in the first half like de jongs challenge on alonso, but then if he did people would have said he ruined the game for early sending offs. you just cant win when you're the ref i guess. What do you think about the FourFourTwo article We Did Our Best - Webb? ENGLISH referee Howard Webb has no regrets over his handling of Sunday's "extremely challenging" World Cup final between Spain and Holland.Have your say.

No mate, you're not the only one. Under the circumstances I think he did an excellent job. People give him shit for not sending more players off but then if he had sent them off those same people would have been giving him shit for losing control of the match and trying to make himself the centre of attention. It was a lose-lose situation for him.

i agree with both of you...he was fantastic yet the whole world seems to think it was the worst performance of all time. holland wont stop complaining yet if webb could go back and change one thing in his performance it would be to send off van bommel and de jong.

He did a good job. Holland are a bunch of sore losers for blaming him.

i dont think webb did anything wrong. holland played dirty in the first half and were lucky not to get sent off. if teams stopped playing dirty and stopped diving, then refs would get blamed less.
i think webb did a perfect job.

Webb missed a blatant red card for De Jong.
Missed a corner for the dutch in the dying stages which the Spanish then ran down and scored off.
Missed a second booking for Puyol for his tackle on Robben.
And this was one of the better performances in the cup. Says a lot about the standard set by the other referees.

Quote:Missed a corner for the dutch in the dying stages which the Spanish then ran down and scored off. Holland actually regained possession after that bad call and lost it. So really it was nothing.

Also missed a blatant foul in the edge of the box on a Netherlands player right before Spain scored.
