Quote:Jets lock in pre-season game in Canberra Thursday, 7 June 2012 3:47 PM The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets have locked in a trial match of the 2012/13 pre-season against the Canberra Rockets in Canberra next month. The former Hyundai A-League champions will face a difficult test against the ACT representative team at Deakin Stadium on Wednesday, July 11. Jets head coach Gary van Egmond said the Canberra fixture will form an important part of his side’s preparation during their lengthy pre-season schedule. “I know we will be in for a good game against the Rockets, having witnessed the standard of football during my time in Canberra,” van Egmond said. “It is great to get one of our pre-season games locked away and we look forward to getting down to Canberra as we continue our preparations for the new season.” The match will coincide with the 22nd Kanga Cup youth tournament celebrations that are also taking place in the Australian capital. Capital Football CEO Heather Reid said Canberra was looking forward to hosting the Jets. “I am delighted to be able to announce that the Newcastle Jets will be in camp in Canberra for a week in July and, as part of their pre-season preparations, will play the Canberra Rockets,” Reid said. “This is fantastic news for the men’s game in Canberra and will give our local talent a chance to shine and show just how strong the loop Premier League is.” Rockets coach Rob Graham echoed the sentiments of Reid, saying the fixture will provide an excellent chance for the Canberra players to showcase their skills. “I want to show that the players from the ACT can play. I want to play good football and show the people in and outside of the ACT that we have good players and can represent well at the highest level,” Graham said. Match details: Newcastle Jets FC v Canberra Rockets Wednesday, July 11 Deakin Stadium, Deakin Kick-off 6.30pm http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/newcastlejets/news-display/Jets-lock-in-preseason-game-in-Canberra/47680

Quote:Singapore sling for magnate Tinkler Stuart Washington, Toby Johnstone June 9, 2012 ONE of Australia's richest entrepreneurs has decided life in Newcastle is no longer for him: Nathan Tinkler and his family are moving to Singapore. The one-time electrician is swapping the world of lattes in beachside Merewether for the famous "pulled tea" of Singaporean hawker stands as he takes his deal-making nous direct to Asia. Mr Tinkler's move follows fanfare and controversy about his role as owner of the Newcastle Knights rugby league team and the Newcastle Jets soccer team. His love of fast cars, the races and an at-times torrid relationship with the media has led to headlines dubbing him a "boganaire". The move to Singapore means Mr Tinkler will escape some unwanted local attention: his $500,000 Ferrari California was stolen from his Merewether garage and torched last year. "His principal place of residence would now be described as Singapore," his spokesman, Tim Allerton, said yesterday. "He just wants to be closer to the markets, to Asia." Mr Allerton said Mr Tinkler's wife, Rebecca, and their four school-age children were also preparing to leave Newcastle. Last month Mr Tinkler sold one Merewether house, which was bought from league legend Andrew Johns for $4.3 million in 2008. In what appears to be one of Mr Tinkler's less astute deals, the property sold for $2.8 million, or a third less than its initial purchase price. His planned $13 million development of two other blocks in Merewether has been in limbo since a development application was approved in June last year. Mr Tinkler, 36, built his fortune with three big coal deals, resulting in the latest estimate of his wealth of $915 million in BRW. His high-stakes approach involved selling his house and his business in November 2006 to finance a deal that turned $1 million into $441 million. Mr Tinkler's new home will be a long way from his $200 million horse stud, Patinack Farm, and other business interests. Mr Allerton said Mr Tinkler would travel frequently to Australia and his business interests would remain unaffected by the move. ''Nathan remains 100 per cent committed to the Knights, and also his Australian operations, and continues to manage them as he has,'' Mr Allerton said. Personal tax rates in Singapore are among the lowest in the world with a cap of 20 per cent, compared to the top tax rate of 46.5 per cent in Australia. Quote:Jets to take on local teams before A-League season JAMES GARDINER 18 Jun, 2012 02:05 PM NEWCASTLE Jets will take on Northern NSW State League champions Broadmeadow Magic in the first of four hit outs against local teams in the lead-up to the A-League season. The clash against Magic will on Wednesday, June 27, at Wanderers Oval. The Jets travel to Canberra on July 7 for a week long camp at the Australian Inistitute of Sport, the former base of head coach Gary van Egmond, which includes a trial against the ACT representative side. Following that they meet the Northern NSW Select side at Darling St on July 18, Charlestown City at Lisle Carr Oval (July 25) before a second game against Northern Select on August 8. “This is a great coup for NBN State League sides to be able to meet the Jets on four occasions and take the opportunity to showcase the depth of talent in the local elite competition,” Northern NSW Football CEO David Eland said. http://www.theherald.com.au/news/local/sport/football-soccer/jets-to-take-on-local-teams-before-aleague-season/2594207.aspx

Quote:Northern NSW Select squad named to tackle Jets CRAIG KERRY 29 Jun, 2012 04:00 AM NORTHERN NSW State League Select coaches Damien Smith and Steve Piggott have gone for speed and a mix of youth and experience in the squad to take on the Jets A-League squad in two trial games. Northern yesterday announced a 19-man squad for matches on Wednesday, July 18, at Darling Street Oval and Wednesday, August 8, at Jack McLaughlan Oval. Broadmeadow coach Smith guided the representative side last year, but South Cardiff mentor Piggott is new to the role and takes over from Magic assistant Rob Virgili. Smith saw the Jets perform firsthand on Wednesday night when they defeated his Magic side 3-1 at Wanderers Park in the A-League club’s opening pre-season match. He believed the key to being competitive against the city’s elite team was having players with speed, saying the likes of Charlestown’s Daniel Bird, South Cardiff’s Bray Smith and Nick Russell and Broadmeadow’s Scott Pettit fitted the bill. ‘‘Going on last night’s game, the Jets are pretty sharp and they’ve got pace all over the park, so pace is a key factor,’’ Smith said. ‘‘We’ve tried to bring some into the squad but also a little bit of experience and top-class players like Johnny Majurovski who have been in top form for their club. ‘‘We asked every coach to nominate who they think would fit into the system we want to play and who deserved selection on form.’’ All state league clubs except the Jets Youth team are represented in the select side. The team will train for the first time on Monday week and meet again on July 16 and August 6. Full squad in details on page 79. ? The two state league catch-up games scheduled for last night were postponed yesterday because of rain-sodden pitches. Charlestown were to play South Cardiff at Lisle Carr Oval and Hamilton were to take on Edgeworth at Darling Street Oval. http://www.theherald.com.au/news/local/sport/football-soccer/northern-nsw-select-squad-named-to-tackle-jets/2607228.aspx

Seems as though pre-season is going well so far, but we've still gotta play some HAL & Asian teams before we can actually find out if we've got the goods. Awesome performance from the sounds of things though!

Goodwin with a hatrick, was on fire and played really well. Overall not a bad performer, though we were better in the second half. Bridges was lively, Ritter looked great and also played well, Griff looked a bit out of sorts as no.9 seing as he's not one but Taggart bagged a double and has one hell of a shot 1st half: ---------------BK------------ Neville--Tiago(C)--Mitchell--Goodwin -------------Kanta-------------- ------Pepper----------Rubezz---- ---Virgili---------------Brown----- --------------Griff------------- 2nd half: ---------------Biri------------ Neville--Tiago(C)--Mitchell/NFI--Ritter -------------Kanta/Regan-------------- ------Pepper----------Rubezz/Oxborrow?---- ---Griff/Taggart---------------Brown----- --------------Bridges-----------
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

NNSW Select 0-6 Jets (Goodwin 3',9',12', Oxborrow 64', Taggart 87', 90+1')
Goodwin has quite a shot on him. Very sharp first 25. First 20 of the second half a bit sloppy, but a great last 20 to finish the game.

This 'might' be of interest to Jets fans? Related to Tinkler and his business interests: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-07-18/tinkler-makes-bid-for-whitehaven-coal/4139868Just thought the 'debt' mentioned would be of interest, 'The Indebted Tinkler Group' - I remember Jets fans mentioning he was in debt, or may not be aswell resourced/capitalised as presumed, which was rumoured/discussed around the time of his ceasing ownership of the Jets threats/FFA Stand off. Ah well, seems it's still all full steam ahead, as the analyst suggested, seizing the take over opportunity while the time is right. I guess things aren't going too bad for Tinkler Group? Roar_Brisbane wrote:So is there much of a difference in the game plan from last year? it's hard to say because it's against state league opposition & branko was in charge last preseason. i can't see the gameplan being overly different from last year, but i can see the ball moving quicker & the players running faster. plus when we sign a striker & a #10 we'll be a heap more creative up front.

"The Jets have been searching the globe for a proven goal scorer.
Jets assistant coach Craig Deans said on Tuesday that they ‘‘had narrowed it down to three or four who tick a majority of boxes’’."
Above is from the Newcastle Herald.
Does anyone have any idea of who these people may be... surely something has leaked out about this
