If it is actually nathan burns, I'd be pretty happy. Not expecting much tho, it'll be some random foreign player with an impressive youtube video and after a solid pre-season he'll end up benched for the whole year like the majority of our visa players -.- I'd like to hope for more, but I'm just sick of seeing the club, which has the resources to sign quality players, get second rate visa signings.

Yeah not holding my breath on burns. IMO they'll go a cheap foreigner for the wing spot and spend a bit more on the crucial cb spot

We should have so much coin leftover though. We never ended up using the wages we set aside for the Australian Marquee, and according to HSG themselves Ryan Griffiths was on basically-marquee-wages, so even after introducing Caravella (and then releasing Tiago, Bernardo, Ritter & Jesic - and Jesic was on an obscene amount) we should have a really decent amount of coin to play with.

Exactly! We should easily have enough to bring in an experienced, high quality central defender, as well as an attacking midfielder and a consistent goal scorer. Aussie marquee can take up one of those, leaving us two players to sign with the room under the cap left by Ryu Griff, Ritter, Jesic (who was on a crapload), Tigao and Bernardo. Shouldn't be that fucking hard, who the hell is our scout? Surely we could find players to fill those positions given how much we've got still under the cap.

Your missing the one crucial piece in the puzzle, the club don't intend on spending the full salary cap, most likely they'll be aiming to spend the salary floor, which I think is $2.1m. That's why every piece of media release and every interview Middleby rattles on with the usual, we have a salary cap, we have a football budget to work too etc. The sheer fact that we could have 3 of our senior squad on fulltime min wage deals out side the cap and/or use the marquee youth wages to keep the likes of Chapman, Brillante, Oxborrow & Hoole's wages outside the cap freeing another $150k says it all about the club.

Nathan Burns, what have you done for me lately?

Not the kind of signing you can complain about if true, but the young attacking players already at the club - the Taggart, Virgili, Gibbs, Bradbury, maybe even Brown might not be too pleased. As had been said, the need is probably CB.

I'm pretty confident it was Chapman, Oxborrow & Duncan who were on those internship deals this season. Maybe Mitch Cooper was on one instead of Duncan, idk. Ben Kanta is our youth marquee.

So we already do use those deals afaik

I thought he was a good player. I saw the trial match against WSW last season and thought he was one of the best on the field. Unfortunately GVE didn't see it in him and he was stuck in NYL every week

This, he may not have had the 'engine' GVE wanted but he could have come on many times to influence a game that desperately needed someone like him.

Guys, worthy bump for this thread I think. Just watched the latest Four Corners ep on the ABC, the chilling/horrifying investigation into Herbicides in Australia, especially in regards to dioxin levels/use of. Anyway, at the end, Kerry O'Brien said:

FurCornersABC-22/07/13 wrote:
"Next week on Four Corners the astounding rise and fall of Australia's youngest billionaire, Nathan Tinkler, and the people he trampled along the way. Until then, good night."

Thought that may be of interest to Jets fans and Newcastle locals. Not that you hadn't heard news/tidbits about Tinkler and his fortune or what not, past year or so, but the award winning Four Corners team may delve further in unravelling his story.

In Search of Nathan Tinkler (Fairfax)

Monday 29 July 2013

What do you do when you engineer a deal that delivers you a $440 million windfall? Spend it, and then set about putting together another deal that will deliver an even bigger bonanza. That's what mining magnate Nathan Tinkler did and the strategy made him Australia's youngest ever billionaire. Now he's been forced into a fire-sale of assets. Will he rise again or is he down for the count?

"Tinkler sort of indulged all the stereotypical Australian male passions, horse racing, fast cars, footy teams, all of those businesses are money pits, you know. You put a lot of money and you get very little out."

Four Corners tries to find out what makes Nathan Tinkler tick. How did the boy from Inverell engineer the deals that put him on Australia's rich list and how did things go wrong?

Reporter Stephen Long tracks down the people who knew Nathan Tinkler as a hard-running rugby league player, those who helped him get to the top and those he burnt along the way. Long delivers an unvarnished portrait of a man with an apparently insatiable appetite for risk. Whether he's backing horses or buying coal leases, Tinkler is prepared to roll the dice.

It's a story that runs from rural Australia to the exclusive foreign enclaves in Singapore, where Tinkler lives away from the spotlight. At this point in his life he's made and lost two fortunes; will he come back for another run at the big time?

Some say yes he can:

"He's too young to be written off and, as I say, he's got this eye for the underappreciated assets and that's a pretty key skill."

Others aren't so sure:

"I don't know how Nathan's (story) will end. I wish him well. I hope the best for him but it seems that he's going the same way as that kind of person always seems to go."

"In Search of Nathan Tinkler", reported by Stephen Long and presented by Kerry O'Brien, goes to air on Monday 29th July at 8.30pm on ABC1. It is replayed on Tuesday 30th July at 11.35pm. It can also be seen on ABC News 24 on Saturday at 8.00pm, ABC iview and at abc.net.au/4corners.

This is TONIGHT, 8:30pm, Four Corners on ABC1!

Saturday, 27 July 2013 10:18 AM

The Hunter Ports Newcastle Jets held their annual Corporate Golf Day at Newcastle Golf Club on Friday.

The event saw members of the Jets’ A-League playing squad and coaching staff team up with the Club’s sponsors in a 4BBB Ambrose competition.

Jets defender Scott Neville was amongst those players who took part in the day

“It was a fun day out on the course and it’s good for us as players to get to know the sponsors because they’re big supporters of the Club,” Neville said.

“Newcastle Golf Club put on a great day for us and I’m sure everyone has really enjoyed it.”

The LJ Hooker Homes team featuring Young Socceroo Connor Chapman won the nett competition with a score of 53.00 nett.

The nib Health Funds team featuring Jets winger James Virgili won the scratch competition with a score of 65.00.

:rof: because he loved his last Euro defender so much

Note: I did love Ritter. Would have been great if left at left back, rather than putting him out of position at centre back in a shambolic defensive line.

Newy Herald today said Craig Goodwin's manager hasn't heard legit deetz about the Blackburn deal, so doesn't see it happening at this stage.
