Quote:Mining magnate Nathan Tinkler has missed the due date for Newcastle Knights player payments by: EXCLUSIVE by Phil Rothfield From: The Daily Telegraph October 16, 2012 8:19AM ALARM bells are ringing over the future of the Newcastle Knights under the ownership of embattled mining magnate Nathan Tinkler following the revelation the club has fallen behind in player payments. Leaguecentral.com.au can reveal that monthly salaries have not been deposited into the players’ bank accounts on schedule this morning. Superannuation payments and office staff salaries have also been delayed in recent months. A number of players phoned their agents to say the payments due on the 15th of each month had not been paid yesterday. The money had still not been deposited this morning. Rise and fall: Inside Tinkler's fading fortune Timeline: Tinkler's chequered sporting history Hunter Sports Group spokesman Richard Fisk denies there is a problem. "I accept there has been tardiness in the past," Fisk said. "But all pays for Jets, Knights, HSG employees have been processed and will clear today in the normal course of business." http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/mining-magnate-nathan-tinklerhas-missed-the-due-date-for-newcastle-knights-player-payments/story-e6frexnr-1226496755803 Edited by Joffa: 16/10/2012 12:47:56 PM

Quote:Stadium phone tower can't cope with demand By MATTHEW KELLY Oct. 20, 2012, 4 a.m. SWAMPED: The increase in smartphone use, and increased capacity at Hunter Stadium means mobile phones often don't work in and around the stadium during big games. TELSTRA will be forced to invest millions of dollars on a dedicated mobile phone tower for Hunter Stadium following a series of network meltdowns. A 30 per cent increase in the stadium’s seating capacity combined with a sharp uptake of smartphone technology over the past three years has pushed the existing mobile telecommunications infrastructure to breaking point. Spectators have been complaining about not being able to use their phones during major stadium events. The problem has also spilled into surrounding suburbs, which experience a shortfall in capacity when the stadium is in use. The stadium has been served in recent years by several surrounding telecommunications towers. The major tower, at Lambton Road, Broadmeadow, has been upgraded four times as part of an attempt to keep up with demand. ‘‘You just can’t keep expanding a tower’s capacity indefinitely; they have a limited capacity in terms of how many phone calls they can carry at one time and how much data they can carry,’’ Telstra’s Hunter Region manager Chris Cusack said. The situation is not unique to Newcastle. Major venues in Sydney have also experienced similar telecommunications meltdowns. Telstra is discussing the new tower’s design and location with the state government, which owns Hunter Stadium. Mr Cusack said the project had been given priority status but he was unable to say when it would be complete. Among the groups calling for improved telecommunications infrastructure in the Hunter is the telecommunications lobby group Newcastle Lunaticks Society. The society is working with a consortium of private groups and councils to develop a wi-fi mesh that would stretch from Salt Ash to Swansea and reduce demand on existing networks. http://www.theherald.com.au/story/408980/stadium-phone-tower-cant-cope-with-demand/?cs=305

Quote:Five Jets in Young Socceroos By JAMES GARDINER Oct. 23, 2012, 9:58 p.m. CONNOR CHAPMAN .THE hard work is paying off for Newcastle Jets young guns Connor Chapman, Mitch Oxborrow, Josh Brillante, Adam Taggart and Jack Duncan. See your ad hereAfter five months slogging it out at training camps and on overseas tours, the quintet were yesterday named in the Young Socceroos squad to contest the Asian Football Confederation under-19 championship in the United Arab Emirates. At stake is a place at the World Youth Cup in Turkey next June. Coached by former Jets captain Paul Okon, the Young Socceroos have to progress to the semi-finals in the UEA to qualify for the under-20 showpiece. The Jets have the largest contingent of any A-League club in the 23-man squad. Though available for the clash against Melbourne Victory on Friday night, the Jets players could miss up to three rounds. Brillante, Taggart and Chapman have all featured in the A-League this season. Duncan, who had been left out of the past two Australian under-20 camps, is on standby for Ben Kennedy (knee) as the back-up to Mark Birighitti on Friday. Having worked with the group for five months, Okon said he was looking forward to the challenge of qualifying. "There is a good mix of local and overseas-based players, and there were plenty of tough decisions that had to be made when settling on the final group," Okon said. "Our preparation for this tournament has been great with plenty of match practice. "In particular, to be able to use the majority of these players at the AFC U-22 qualifiers in Indonesia in July gave us good competitive matches under tournament conditions which will serve us well once we get to the UAE. "Whilst we know it will be a difficult challenge, I am confident that we have a strong enough squad to progress from the group stage to the quarter-finals which will then come down to that one important game for us to perform in to qualify for the World Cup." The Young Socceroos have been drawn in pool D alongside Saudi Arabia, Syria and Qatar. See your ad hereThe top two teams from each group progress to the quarter-finals. The squad leaves this weekend for a training camp in the host nation and will finalise preparations with a friendly against South Korea on Tuesday. They open their account against Qatar on November 4. The final is set down for November 17. http://www.theherald.com.au/story/417177/five-jets-in-young-socceroos/?cs=306

Quote:Jets visit Ronald McDonald House Thursday, 6 December 2012 10:38 AM Players from the Newcastle Jets recently visited families staying at Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) in Newcastle. Ryan Griffiths, Ben Kantarovski, Ben Kennedy, Dominic Ritter, Marko Jesic, Josh Mitchell and Michael Bridges had a fantastic time painting murals with the kids, mucking around with the foosball table and generally having fun. “A highlight in our week at Ronald McDonald House was the Newcastle Jets visit,” RMHC PR/Events Manager Rohan Bingham said. “The families staying with us are under so much pressure and each have a seriously ill child, having something exciting like a visit from the Newcastle Jets changes everything. “The visit includes the whole family and everyone talks about it for days later. It may just be an hour or two of their time but it is so incredibly valuable in the lives of the families staying with us and ee feel incredibly fortunate to have great local sporting teams that care.” The players enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea in the red and blue themed living room, and handed out party bags to the children whilst signing autographs and posing for photographs. All in all it was a very special afternoon for the players at a very special place. Quote:HSG asks for two-month delay on Knights audit By ROBERT DILLON Dec. 7, 2012, 11 p.m. EYES ON THE BALL: The Knights at their first training session this week. . HUNTER Sports Group officials are seeking a two-month extension to provide the Newcastle Knights Members Club with a financial statement due next Saturday. But the Members Club will not agree to any such deferral unless HSG signs a legal document that prolongs a $20 million bank guarantee - a key component of Nathan Tinkler's takeover offer - until March. The timeline is crucial, because under the current terms and conditions, the $20 million reverts to $10.3 million on January 1. Under the terms of the privatisation agreement, dated August 5 last year, HSG committed to presenting the Members Club with an audited statement on December 15 each year as proof that all obligations were being upheld. The Members Club would then have 20 business days from a January 1 trigger date to access the bank guarantee, or exercise a buy-back option, if HSG had not complied. Knights chief executive Matthew Gidley said it was problematic to provide a financial statement on December 15 "because the year is not complete". He said HSG gave the Members Club board an "unbinding" briefing on the Knights' financial position this week and the directors had been "comfortable" with that. "We've given the members board an update on where we sit financially now, in terms of the milestones - the junior development and sponsorship," he said. See your ad here"We're pretty much there now. The auditors will be in next week to start the process. "By February 15, they'll have the audited report complete and everything will be finalised." But Members Club chairman Nick Dan said everything hinged on whether HSG agreed to extend the $20 million guarantee until March. "The Knights Members Club has to 100 per cent look after the Members Club's interests, and that's to have the maximum money there at all times to cover any deficiencies," Dan said. http://www.theherald.com.au/story/1172793/hsg-asks-for-two-month-delay-on-knights-audit/?cs=306
