Mayora laments on disappointing season

Sydney Olympic attacker Matthew Mayora has opened up on the tough season his team have had in the NSW Premier League.

With big things earmarked for this season the Blues have failed to reach their potential of semi-finalists, sitting in second last spot with one game remaining.

But Mayora says a combination of things has led to Olympic’s demise.

``Throughout the season we have had many ups and downs,’’ he said.

``I think that having three coaches in one year is a big thing. Losing Pat (Marando) and then Gumps (Andre Gumprecht), I mean who goes through a season with three coaches.

``It was very tough for us players, we had to change our formation countless times to make it strong and play to our strengths.

``But we stuck to it and slowly and slowly we have become a better club.’’

Mayora himself admitted the disappointing season has had an impact on his form, scoring nowhere near the amount of goals to defend his top goal scorer award from last season.

But the goal poacher said getting results for the team was high on his priority.

``My season has had its up and downs with injuries and the like,’’ he said.

``Coming back from overseas everyone expected me to be the leading goal scorer again for the second year in a row. Which has never been done before in the history of the league.

``I scored a couple but it’s all about a team effort. I’ve played out wide, in the hole, up front and all over the place so it was difficult.’’

Sydney Olympic have already been rumoured to be attracting a plethora of players and possible coaches as of late.

Mayora says he is not sure what angle the committee will take in next year’s squad.

`` The guys are looking to keep some players but I have no idea if I am staying or going,’’ he said.

``I got to see what I want to do to as I wouldn’t mind going back overseas, but if the chance is not there hopefully Olympic and I can sit down and have a few talks.’’

The 24 year old has kept his options open for a return to football overseas, and says he is keen to rekindle his relationships in Uruguay or Indonesia.

`` Going back to Uruguay is a 70% chance,’’ he said. I was supposed to stay there this year but had some family problems so had to come back home. I’ll have talks with some of the clubs I trialled with back there. A couple of them want to put pen to paper but we have to see what they put on the table.

``Other than that I’m having talks with a few Indonesian clubs to go back over there. But I will keep my options open to see where I suit better.

``To be honest I just want to play football.’’

Sydney Olympic travel to Marconi Stadium to take on the Marconi Stallions on Sunday at 3pm.

in 1984 Sydney United went through 6 coaches and still finished just 3 points short of the semis.

He got injured too pretty early on IIRC. After he went to Perth and then Indonesia, i thought he'd do alright, but i think Uruguay would be a good move for him.

WOLLONGONG WOLVES FOR A-LEAGUE EXPANSION!

Top player, he should not be playing in the NSWPL, good luck in his overseas endeavors.

He's been unlucky. A good season in the NSWPL this year and I'm 100% sure he would have been in the A-League next season, but it just didn't click for him. Hope it works out for him overseas, failing that - a good year next season and onward to the A-League.

I'd assume it's safe to say the REVOLUTION never really got off the ground. I'm guessing only 1 team get relegated in the NSWPL, lucky that the West Sydney Berries were awful or else Olympic could've been plunged to the State League.

Didn't get off the ground?

* Highest average crowd in the NSWPL (2nd year in a row)
* We more then doubled the amount of season passes sold this season compared to last.
* Got double the amount of members from last season.
* For the first time in Olympic history we got a long-term home ground, the 25 year lease at Belmore Sports Ground.
* AEK training at Belmore Sports Ground twice this season.
* Dim Petratos making the u19's Socceroo's side.
* Chris Triantis getting signed by a League One side in England.
* Successful Holiday Programs for children/teenage football.
* New offices at Belmore Sports Ground.
* New supporters group, Olympic Ultras
* Big sponsorship in the NSWPL belongs with us, being sponsored by Thysson Krupp, which is a publicly listed company (in the share market)
* All the youth teams (u13's, u14's, 15's and u16's) made the Top 3 in there competitions.

thats just from the top of my head, so don't tell me Olympic has been unsuccessful this year, the ONLY thing we missed out on, the club as a whole, is the First Grade push for Finals football.

We all know this ill felling is still coming from a certain person who it appears has returned. You would be best to pull his head in mate.
