I've never seen the lad play, but with a strike rate like that (76 goals in 74 first team games for Blacktown) one has to ask the question - could he step up a level to the A-League?

he was given the chance a few years back with sydney and didnt do anything, same with lucas glavas after hes good scoring feet in the nswpl with scoring 4 goals in the grandfinal and he couldnt cut it with perth or sydney

He was only in the ACL Squad for Sydney as backup so wouldn't say he couldn't cut it there when he was only cover, but at Perth he couldn't cut it, he's not physical enough for the A-League. Ozbey on the other hand isn't mobile enough:lol:

In all fairness i don't think his build is an issue, i mean, heck, carlos hernandez seems to do alright, we were giving him so much shit in the cove last sat night hahaha. but he has piled on the lima beans over the break .

And if Carlos can work that off i'm sure with a decent fittness regime, ozbey can too. Especially at a club like Sydney FC where fitness is taken very seriously.

WOLLONGONG WOLVES FOR A-LEAGUE EXPANSION!

Yeah Ozbey is in the same boat as Glavas. He's a level up on most of the players in the NSWPL but can't step up to the A-League.

Nope. Unfortunately for him he's stuck in that horrible area between the A-league and Semi professional football... Very, very, VERY quick. Not a great footballing brain or touch though...

Think of a poor mans Chris Payne, but quicker... He makes Payney look like a rocket scientist on the field.

Edit: I should qualify that; I played against Ozbey for years and I played with Payney right up until his move to Sydney...

I understand he's overweight - but the ability to be in the right place at the right time can't be under-rated. Perhaps a decent chance at the top level, with a decent salary, might be enough to motivate him to shift the extra kilos.

Tolgay Ozbey crowned 2010 Golden Boot award winner

Blacktown City FC striker Tolgay Ozbey was crowned the 2010 Golden Boot award winner after a devastating display up-front having notched up an incredible 22 goals in 21 matches this season.

This season’s Finals Series contenders were aided by Ozbey’s contribution in front of goals as the ace marksman bagged two hat-tricks and scored four double strikes in season 2010.

“It has been a fantastic year but I have to credit the club management and the players that I have had around me in assisting me with this,” Ozbey stated to Football NSW.

It seems as though Ozbey hits his straps with Blacktown as the gun hungry striker stated that he has always been comfortable with the setup at the club.

“Blacktown have always been good to me and always seem to bring the best out of me.

“It is a very professional club along with the setup and I have always been treated well, let’s hope we can continue our good form with the finals series coming up.”

The 24-year-old only missed one match this season through suspension and came on once as a substitute but took part in 21 games overall making his goalscoring feat a remarkable achievement.

What’s also an amazing statistic is that Ozbey has made 74 appearances for Blacktown and has scored an incredible 76 goals in all Cup and League competitions.

It was Ozbey’s third Golden Boot award of his career in the NSW Premier League after the marksman picked up the award in 2006 scoring 17 goals and 2007 scoring 15 goals making labelling him a goalscoring machine by many of his peers.

Blacktown tackle Sydney United this Sunday at Lily Homes Stadium with the winner taking on 2010 Premiers Bonnyrigg White Eagles for a chance to be in the 2010 NSW Premier League Grand Final.

Ozbey is hoping that his rich goalscoring form continues against the Reds.
“I honestly believe that the winner of this weekend’s match will have one foot into the Grand Final.

“I think the week off won’t do Bonnyrigg any favours but I know it is up to us to make things happen and for us to achieve the dream of playing in the Grand Final starts this week against a tough United outfit.”

His solid performances for Blacktown have gone unnoticed as A-League side Central Coast Mariners have honed in on Ozbey offering him trials at the club.

“At the moment I am on trials but not sure what the outcome is yet, we will have to wait and see but I do want another crack at playing in the A-League after my time with the Newcastle Jets a couple of seasons ago.

“I want to focus though on getting to that Grand Final with Blacktown.”
