In one of the most controversial and chaotic day in A-League history, a record has been broken and a deadline day saga that is still unfolding, and not even a game of football was played. North Queensland International smashed the Australian transfer record by signing Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovich for B-League club Wellington Phoenix. Ibrahimovich was unvealed in Townsville late this afternoon, after Ajax had failed in a late bid to hijack the move for the striker. Ibrahimovich spoke highly of the club and the manager "the club has been going through a tough time, they are a much better team then we're they are on the ladder, i intend on fixing this and helping the club stay in the top division and push for the championship next season." Chairman Thom Kelly also spoke at the unveiling "It's a big coup for the club, we saw an area in the team that we really needed help in and we've addressed it swiftly, we're happy, Zlatan is happy, Guus is happy so things are looking up for the first time in awhile after a difficult start".

Further south of Townsville a transfer tug-of-war has erupted between New Zealand club Christchurch Athletic and Tasmania United over Igor Akinfeev. Christchurch held the final bid until the deadline, although a bid was lodged by Tasmania United on the deadline of 6pm AEST, with these unprecedented events the league has been thrown into chaos. If Tasmania United were to sign the goalkeeper it would be a big blow for the B-League club with promotion aspirations. The defence put forward by Tasmania United in a club statement "i clicked the post button in the last minute of the deadline, it took about 5-10 seconds for the post to actually load and be posted after i had clicked 'post', technically i made the bid with 5:59:59, i hope that helps, that is all." although Christchurch officials are rumored to be fuming at this. FFA weren't returning calls although in an unofficial quote by A-League commissioner Josh Hunt 'Mmmmmm... i'll allow it.' which would cause even more controversy, Christchurch would appeal but the FFA is infamous for not reversing there decision's. There is more to play out in this deadline day transfer saga.
