Adrian Peterson's son dies; alleged attacker in jail
One of Adrian Peterson's sons passed away Friday. The 2-year-old died of injuries from an aggravated assault on Wednesday, Sioux Falls police confirmed to NFL Media.

The accused attacker, Joseph Robert Patterson, 27, was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery of an infant in Sioux Falls, S.D., police spokesman Sam Clemens said. Patterson was in a relationship with the child's mother at the time, Clemens said.

In light of the boy's death, the charges against Patterson will be reviewed and additional changes might be added. Patterson is being held in the Minnehaha County Jail on $750,000 cash bond.

Clemens told NFL Media earlier on Friday that the child was in critical condition after sustaining head injuries that appeared to be consistent with abuse. Police did not name the boy, but Peterson and his father, Nelson, both spoke Friday about the terrible situation.

"Thank you to my family, my fans and fans of other teams for their support," Peterson wrote on Twitter. "The NFL is a fraternity of brothers and I am thankful for the tweets, phone calls and text messages from my fellow players. God Bless everyone and thank u so much."

Peterson missed practice Thursday, but the running back returned to the Minnesota Vikings' facility on Friday. He indicated to the media that he planned to play in Sunday's game. Peterson's comments to the media came before news of his son's passing became public.

"I should start off by saying I really appreciate all the support that I've been receiving from fans (and) the Vikings organization," Peterson said Friday afternoon. "This is a private matter, and I would ask you all to please just respect my privacy and not ask at all about the situation at hand. Thanks."

That was just horrible to watch. Seneca Wallace is terrible. We're going to get destroyed next week by the Eagles if Rodgers can't play.

I can't image how bad Vince Young must have been in the pre-season that Wallace was considered a better option.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Aaron Rodgers has a fractured left collarbone and the Packers’ franchise quarterback doesn’t know how long he will be out.

More definitive scans today but initial tests showed small fracture in Aaron Rodgers' collarbone that could sideline him about three weeks.

Rodgers offered details of the injury Tuesday on his weekly radio show on 540-AM ESPN. The 2011 NFL MVP was hurt after getting sacked by Shea McClellin on a third-down play during the Packers’ first series while he was scrambling outside the pocket. He hurt his left, non-throwing shoulder.

"I do have a fractured collarbone. That’s a significant injury," Rodgers said. "We’ll know more about the severity and the timetable later this week."

Rodgers said he was holding out hope he would heal quickly. "In this case, it was considerably more pain than I’ve felt in a long time," he added.

Rodgers got emotional at one point during the 15-minute appearance when he described the reception he got from fans as he walked back to sideline in green warmups in the third quarter.

"We put our bodies on the line. We do it because we love this game. But when I walked back out on that field — I’m getting a little choked up here just thinking about it," Rodgers said, "that was one of the top five moments of my career there."

Rodgers is the Packers’ Mr. Reliable. Since taking over for the equally dependable Brett Favre in 2008, Rodgers has only missed a game due to injury once — on Dec. 19, 2010, for a concussion.

On a team that has been rocked all season by injuries, Rodgers had been a constant and the Packers had reeled off four straight wins despite being without top players like linebacker Clay Matthews (thumb), Randall Cobb (leg) and Jermichael Finley (neck).

Losing Rodgers might be the most devastating blow of all.

The 27-20 loss to the Bears left Green Bay in a three-way tie atop the NFC North with Chicago and the Detroit Lions, who were idle last week. The offence now falls into the hands of backup Seneca Wallace, who finished 11 for 19 for 114 yards and an interception.

The Packers host the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Well, we can kiss this season goodbye. Unless we some sort of incredible run when Rodgers returns.
