Hi All

I did part 1 & 2 awhile back. Part 3 blog was delayed as the plan went a bit astray this year with a major injury but I didnt want to just disappear into the background so here is an update. I know there was a couple of members following this so here you go

Refresh -
Part 1 - Living in rural QLD (Mackay) with a Daughter who had some decent potential but couldnt get passed the Brisbane based selectors. So in Parts 1, I asked how do you get noticed and the majority if not all said "Move to a bigger city"

Part 2 -
I advised everyone that we where moving to Newcastle and if she was good enough things would work out. Was it an over zealous father or was it living in a rural location???

So for part 3
We moved and the year started well.
1) She trialled for the Womens team that won last years grand final in the Womens premier league in Newcastle and was successful. She was 15.
2) Got selected for Hunter Sports High School without trialling due to her past acheivements
3) After only being in town for just under two months she got a shadow spot in the Hunter U19 School girls team. Not that great but not bad for just arriving in town with no one knowing you.
4)Got invited to attend U17 Northern NSW selection camp for the Nationals. This is by invitation only.

Unfortunately this is when our year went pear shaped.

Before getting to attend the NNSW selection camp the regular season started and less than 10 minutes into the second game of the year she got studded on the foot which tore the tendon on the inside of her big toe and badly bruised the bone on the outside of her foot. Would have been better breaking it as the injury was season ending. She took the field in a couple of games right at the end but still injured. She toughed it out due to player shortages.

So part 3 was supposed to prove me right that Mackay is backwards and Brisbane selectors biased (and also all of you who said to move) but part 3 will now become part 4 next season.

I look forward to giving you the update next year even if she gets know where. All I can say for now is that given an injury free year things could have worked out a lot better.

Cheers Silver:)

Hi Silvergale, good to hear from you again. :)

That injury is very unfortunate. I'm sure she'll come back much stronger for it next season and hopefully can show that moving was the right option for you.

Keep us updated, looking forward to hearing part 4. I'm always up for a chat via PM, as I have been in the past if you need to ask/talk about anything. :)

Could to see your still active. Taking a positive out of a negative she's 1 year older which will help her mental approach playing with the big girls. Gee it's tough comp and no simulation (HaHa)
Still went to every game, talk soon

A very important aspect for girls football is get her hitting a ball properly. That is passing cleanly and striking at goal correctly.

I watch a lot of womens football at all levels and am involved with various things and this is a massive problem with a lot of players. There is a lot of players that can hold a ball up and dribble but have terrible shooting and woeful passing accuracy.

Thanks da640

Problem was she was a stand out to most people, just not the QLD selectors. She can hit a ball at pace cleaner and harder than most males. Wish I could say she got that from me but no lies here.
The biggest fault she lacks is the killer instinct to do more for herself. Very team orientated and too unselfish. Some may say this is good but dumb ass selectors looking for show boats dont see it this way

You have nailed it in one there. At selection trials and stuff like that, you need to be a show boat and get as much ball as possible and hold onto it. Otherwise the player will be ignored. A lot of these representative teams are run by under qualified people until you get to state and australian teams.

Sometimes the state league and under are looking for show offs at trials etc because they dont know what else. You need to learn to "play the game" to get into these teams.

Another thing is getting the better womens player to play up grades in womens football (I see in your intro that she was playing in a womens team already). This gives better players much more competition.

Another thing is....the game needs to be fun. Some of these representative teams at the lower levels (Womens super league and lower leagues) can be more detrimental to the players development than good. They can be very results orientated and some clubs not run well. When your daughter gets to playing at that level, go with your gut instinct for how you feel about clubs and make sure it is an environment that she enjoys.

Hi da640

You are right about the fun part. The daughter has always played with a smile on her face and enjoyed her football. This year was very daunting as the team she joined had 4 W League Jets players and a few Ex Australian Matilda players. For a young girl this was a bit scary. Although she missed a lot of the year she got to no everyone a lot better so she should be more comfortable next year. She even got a nice chat from Cheryl Salisbury (Ex Matilda Captain) about injuries and how to cope with them, can you play through them, should you rest etc
Also special mention to her manager, great lady who really helped out. Super lucky to be finally surrounded by good people and so happy we moved.

Hi AB
Yeah prefer to keep actual names off this blog. Beware of the over protective father who has a 10 point passability criteria (lol)
I wont send you a personal message as it's not much point in regards to Football as she basically sat the whole year out and anyone you know wont have seen what she can offer. Lets wait to part 4 next year.
She doesnt know I do this and I would probably highly embarrass her. Wouldnt be too hard to work out anyway as I dont think they would get to many new girls from Mackay every year.

Ouch!!

Hope you can still make it back or is this a career ending injury? I have heard from a few people that foot injuries can be very long to heal so although I didnt mention it we are really hoping next year she will be fine but it could be longer. 6 months later and she cant even wear certain shoes from the bone bruising that has left a large lump on the outside of her foot
