Szczesny, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Diaby, Arteta, Cazorla, Walcott, Gervinho, Podolski.
Mannone, Djourou, Coquelin, Santos, Ramsey, Arshavin, Giroud. No song at all is very telling. Adds alot of weight to those rumours. Not thrilled with Jenkinson starting after some of his pre-season showings. Very interesting to see Podolski starting up top.

I read 250k a week somewhere today?

I mean how many former big name players can you say whose career really prospered and took off after leaving Arsenal? I mean Cesc is the only real one I can think of, and even then that's only 1 year on. And ok Nasri, but again it's only 1 year on.
If a big name player is sold, most of the time it's Arsene's decision, and more often than not he gets it right. Only one recently that hasn't been his decision is Nasri, that's the only big player recently where the board made him sell the player. So Wenger coming out and saying "I had no choice" is an indication that he's sold him at the right time? How many big players left during our heyday? Overmars, Reyes, Van Bronkhaust? Good players, not the heart of our club. RVP, Nasri, Cesc... these guys are the spine of our team. Viera marked the end of an era. Edited by KenGooner_GCU: 18/8/2012 09:26:10 PM

I don't disagree with much of anything you said Fred except that it's Wengers fault. It seems clear to me that our majority shareholder Stan Kroenke is the one primarily responsible for our tight budget.
Wenger doesn't exactly help this problem by keeping quiet about it, but it's not like another manager could just come in and start spending like Fergie. We aren't blessed with owners as co-operative as Glazer.
Alot of the players we get for cheap or free we only get because working under Arsene is seen as an attractive option for many foreign players for various reasons. I think we'd end up like Liverpool without Arsene.
And let's face it, what top quality manager would want to manage Arsenal with our aggregate budget of $0 per transfer window?

I am definitely more upset about song than RVP... Van Persie played pretty well in the last couple of years, but I never really loved him. I think the replacing players will more than cover for him. He has always been massively arrogant and it shows every now and then. The way things play out in the dutch squad show it, he is quite a typical dutchman for those who know the dutch culture. The Tim Krul thing showed him to be a c*** but at the time he was our c*** and arsenal won so I was happy. He sure scored a lot of goals recently but apparently he missed more last year than anyone else in the league? He played in the 8-2...

sydneycroatia58 wrote:BusbyBabe wrote:I like how all this bad blood on RVP is coming out when he isn't an Arsenal player. The bad blood is completely justified, and is only because of the club he's gone to. If he'd gone to City, people would've called him a mercenary, but there wouldn't be anywhere near as much anger as there is now. I mean could you imagine the reaction from United fans if Rooney did the same thing and ended up at Arsenal or Chelsea. When RVP came out and stated he wasn't going to sign a new contract I didn't see anything wrong with what he was saying or the way he conducted himself. Obviously it stings to see him go to a club you hate and I could understand you hating him when we come up against each other, but tbh I really don't understand the bad blood at all and I think he's conducted himself pretty well considering he could have taken the Tevez path and been an absolute cunt and tried his hardest to disgrace the clubs name. TBH When Rooney had his saga a few years ago he conducted himself pretty similarly to RVP's initial statement, although I think we all know now it was a ruse, at the time though I was supportive for Rooney in what he has done for the club and wished him all the best in the future no matter who he plays for. Arsenal have had plenty of top players leave over the last few years, granted you've had some money hungry cunts, but I think alarm bells should start ringing when your last two captains demand moves to rival clubs and players publicly question the clubs ambitions. Obviously it hurts to see a star player turn on the club, but when it continues to happen I think that's when you have to start wondering if they have a point. I know this will get shot down, and as a United fan I understand that perfectly, but here goes... IMO Arsenal are and always will be a great club, the squad at the moment looks very good, perhaps not up to a title challenge but you will definitely push the likes of United and City all the way. However I think Wenger is the problem, I know his status at the club and I understand what he has done and what he means, especially as a United fan, BUT the silverware drought does not look like breaking any time soon and Arsenal always seem to be at the same quality every season now. Every season we say they will be competitive and will push the rest all the way, and they continually deliver, but I can't help feeling a fresh outlook with a new manager and one or two key signings would have you right back at the top again; how much longer can near enough continue to be good enough?
