Suarez getting pissed at the other players is a good thing, not a bad one. He has an unrivalled drive and determination and he demands the best from himself and those around him. It's why he was captain at Ajax and why I've got no problems with it.

I agree. That is the way I look at it. But it is the same with Rooney, people label him with a bad attitude for giving it to his players. You have to be able to lead by example after giving it to your team mates.

Newcastle are reportedly interested in signing FC Basel winger Xherdan Shaqiri, who has previously been linked with a move to Liverpool.

Liverpool were linked with the 19-year-old towards the back end of last season, with the highly-rated Switzerland international one of a number of wide players who the Merseysiders were believed to be showing interest in.

Juventus and Aston Villa have also been linked with in the teenager, but Newcastle appear to be stepping up their interest, with the Daily Mirror reporting that Magpies boss Alan Pardew watched him in action for his country recently against Bulgaria.

Earlier this year it was reported that Shaqiri was keen on a move to Liverpool, who first showed interest in the youngster while Rafael Benitez was still in charge at the club.
Basel's sporting director Ilya Kentsing earlier this year said he believed the midfielder was already good enough to play in the Premier League.

"Shaqiri is a player for a big team and he could play for any top club," he said, adding: "But we have no agreement yet with any club."

A striker worth 35m should be playing more than 30 mins every 2 weeks. I understand that he's been injured and whatnot, but we really expect a higher standard.

The only thing I'm worried about is ourselves not taking our chances. Build up play has been good, and we've dominated in pretty much every game we've played, but we're not hitting the net as much as we should.

That's been the thorn in our side. That penalty was very soft and sure, we can get all up in arms, but when they have just 2 shots on goal from open play compared to our 22 and just 23% possession, we really need to do better to take our chances.

I'm filthy at the result, but really the buck stops with the players after this one.

v Sunderland: Created 12 chances, 1 goal.
v Arsenal: Created 13 chances, 2 goals
v Bolton: Created 16 chances, 3 goals
v Stoke: Created 18 chances, 0 goals.

We need to do better.

Yep !!!!! 3points given away might as well not played.

In his defence, the cunt just dropped like a sack of shit. Carra probably still lives in a world where soft pricks don't drop like that because you're tussling in the box. Which says it all, really, because that's the same world I tend to retreat to. Showing our age.

Stan Cullis (Wolves, 1950s) turned Molineux into a mudbatch when they went up against Hungarian side Honved in 1954. He told his apprentices to get out and water the pitch before the game, even though it had been raining for four days straight. He knew that the Hungarians had struggled in the bad weather on a crappy pitch, so he used that to his advantage, because the pitch turned into a mess after about half an hour.

Wolves won. Home advantage. It's not just the fans that help you win games at home. Ever heard Fergie complain about the pitch being too narrow/bumpy/has hobbits living in the D? A classic example of the old man bitching about what's been going on in football for years.

Look at the state of the pitch:

Quote:
ACCORDING to a couple of high profile managers this week, Liverpool FC's Luis Suarez is a workaholic who craves hard graft, Andy Carroll is another kind of holic who simply craves the hard stuff.

That’s the perception. But what’s the reality?

Using statistical input from the remarkably precise EA Sports Player Performance Index . . . somewhat surprising.

Suarez tracks back, chases lost causes, closes down defenders and sweats blood in the pursuit of Anfield excellence. Such is his dedication he has run a lung-bursting 109.6 metres every minute of every match so far this season.

Carroll, on the other hand, lumbers around, loiters for crosses, occasionally breaks into a sweat. Oh, and covers 108 metres every minute of a match.

That’s right. Given his long legs, just one stride less than his non-stop teammate, or a difference so slight as to be barely noticeable.

Clearly Carroll has a little previous to be taken into account, but since moving to Liverpool the most outrageous off-field antics he’s been involved in was attending a Boyzone concert – and failing to buy his boss a pint.

On the pitch, Carroll has actually managed more attempts on goal than Suarez and managed more on target.

The campaign may still be in its infancy and the stats open to early season interpretation, and Suarez has scored more goals, but people seem to be underestimating Carroll’s contributions.

Not inside Anfield, of course

Kenny Dalglish dismissed Fabio Capello’s press conference comments this week – and suggested the journalists pushing the England coach for a soundbite were more mischievous than the Italian had meant to be.

He has a point.

So, too, does the EA Sports Performance Index.

Stewart Downing has been the most eye-catching Anfield arrival so far this season. But he hasn’t been the most effective.

The highest placed Liverpool player on the Index is Charlie Adam.

And Jordan Henderson is next.

The Index analyses players’ performances and gives points for positive influences on a match – such as shots, tackles, clearances, saves etc. – and takes points away for negative actions, such as shots off-target, yellow and red cards.

Adam currently lies 11th in the overall Premier League table – and in terms of midfielders, only Ashley Young, David Silva and Anderson have proved more productive this season.

The Scot has scored one goal, created two more, hit the target with 62.5% of all his shots and has won 83.3% of all the tackles he has entered in to this season, as well as making three clearances.

He has also covered more distance than any other Liverpool player in each of his three games. Against Bolton, Adam covered an incredible 13,515m – almost eight-and-a-half miles – including a massive 7042m in the first-half alone!

There are lies, damned lies – and statistics. But the biggest lies being perpetrated so far this season seem to surround the Liverpool number nine

I know it doesn't show everything, but it's good to see, especially about Hendo and Adam. Didn't realise he covered so much ground.

It's all well and good to say they're running the same distances in games (approximately), but that doesn't tell you WHERE they're running. While Luis is running through the channels, dribbling the ball and looking for the through-ball, Carroll is kind of loafing across the defensive line and not really achieving much at the moment.

Downing, Lucas, Adam, Suarez, Enrique, Bellamy and Agger all did really well this weekend. Skrtel was hit and miss. He's not great at getting forward; very unsure. What do you expect from a centre half, though?

Henderson, Kuyt, Carroll and Carra had a pretty bad one, but we were more out of luck on a lot of occasions. In real terms, we murdered them, and we can be pretty proud of that performance. Converting chances, next in line.

It was really easy for Stoke to sit back and take that penalty and then just put themselves between us and the net. It's easy to block shots when you have nine men behind the ball (9 shots blocked in total, seven in the second half compared to Liverpool's 1 blocked shot). They didn't really challenge for possession, just tried to intercept and not even regain possession - they just tried to screw up the passes and then fell back into their positions. We had a total of seven interceptions, with the most coming from the back four plus Henderson (dropping back into the centre again), but Stoke had a total of fourteen in total for the team.

One fucking chance, that's all we needed: one. Then they would have been forced to open up and we could have torn them a fresh one.

But hey, on the stupid and bright side Johnson linked up nicely with Downing and Lucas. Maybe that's something to bear in mind while we wait until OCTOBER for him to come back.

But why? He can actually use his feet pretty well for a big lad (Unlike Crouchy). Sure, he's no suarez, but he has descent control and isn't actually that slow either. For some reason, Kenny keeps telling him to stay on the last man and just wait for the long ball or cross. Its just not working

I really hope Kenny starts playing Carroll again. Him and Suarez have only played a couple of games together up front, yet it already seems like Kenny has given up on that partnership.

I would disagree. In terms of the free-flowing dynamic style that you guys are employing, its best if Carroll just sits on the last man as an outlet. Also, seeing as Suarez is roaming so much, you need to have a target man up there.

Fucking gutted about this. I really hope Kelly is back v Spurs.

Kuyt and Carra were the worst of the lot on the w/e I think... I mean, they weren't horrible, but Carra especially was woeful in possession, worse than normal.

Hendo struggled a bit too, he didn't deal well with having so many defenders in front of him, they were always doubling and tripling up.

I expect to see Stevie on the bench v Spurs.

Absolutely. Since Suarez is running so much and we're getting so much penetration out of Downing and Kuyt, etc. we don't need Carroll to be running 10+ km every game. What we need is vertical runs through the defence off the shoulder of the last defender and angled runs, not this marauding horizontally across in front of the defence and achieving very little because there's no reason to draw the defender.

Well, actually, I meant a chance that turned into a goal.

Suarez's was the best chance, but the ball was coming down from an awkward angle and Begovic was spread across the angle. If he hadn't hit it wide, then at the level he played it, it would have hit Begovic. If he'd have hit it higher, then he probably would have skied it over the box because he was under the ball.

Uh oh, half time, 1 goal and 1 man down.

At this rate Liverpool will finish with 9 or so men.

Kenny definately has his work cut out for him at half time to get these guys to calm down and to start playing football again.

Look, Mike Jones being a cunt aside, we can't ignore Mike Jones being a complete and utter cunt. We'd probably enjoy some consistency, so if Adam was going to get a yellow for tugging Modric's shirt, then Kaboul's on Suarez on the edge of the box was a yellow. For example.

As soon as Adam went, we lost a link between midfield and attack. If we were shaky at that point, then we were crippled as soon as Adam went off. Henderson played like a dog and dropped off Modric enough to let him get that shot off; Skrtel was just outclassed on the right. He's nowhere near fast enough to cope with Bale, but then again, he shouldn't really have had to - that's partly why Henderson was out on the right, to mitigate that, but Henderson let us down again. Downing was awful, too - he was supposed to be on the left, but he provided no support for Enrique to get forward.

As soon as we lost Charlie, we were on a loser. If we were 1-0 up, then we could have weathered the storm, but we had a disappointing performance based on the fact that we had to have midfielders cover so much more ground.

That was hardly even a free kick, Suarez is a sack of shit who should have got a red at half time, did he miss the "respect" message. I wouldn't call it a card when it was just a free kick with Suarez simulating.

What was Liverpools problem? They lost it completely with discipline. Lost a heap of respect for Lucas, every time Pool got a free kick he was in the referees face demanding cards. Get over it sweetheart.

Also to add to my new found dislike of Suarez, what kind of low life elbows another player in the throat? Lucky boy to stay on the pitch after that sort of nonsence. Kenny needs to sit him down and destroy his ego a bit because imagine if Liverpool went down to 8?

Sorry for 3 comments in a row but wtf is with all this criticism of Carroll? How the hell is he meant to score a) in the first half Liverpool mustered what 1 decent shot and Suarez was offside and b) in the second half when most of the time he was playing as an attacking midfielder?

He got as close as Liverpool were ever doing to get with a glancing header.

Did they just expect his touch to be golden all the time? Unrealistic expectations.
