Physical presence, while important is proving to be fading further and further away. Teams are moving away from it, especially the best teams. And when we talk about his physical attributes. The smallest defenders in the league constantly win the physical battle over him.
The best defences now almost leave the 'big' man to win his aerial challenges and pick up the 2nd ball and follow the runners. Good defenders are smart enough to know that with Carroll, the danger is the players around him, not him.
A good pre season will help him bulk up but for me, still not convinced.

I'm so surprised.
Echo says we've agreed a 11m fee for Borini. Very happy with that, I expect it to be announced tonight/tomorrow morning.

Edited by vaughn2111: 12/7/2012 03:40:49 PM Latest rumours are that they've agreed a fee for both. Going to go down great with Milan fans. Apparently the deal is worth in the ballpark of 62m. Given their respective ages, that's a good deal for Milan. And the'll definitely be able to bring in some quality replacement talent. I hope we only loan out Carroll in case he finally does find some decent form, but like I keep saying, the lad needs to bulk the fuck up or he's not going to achieve anything. What's this talk about Allen? I thought we couldn't sign any Swansea players as part of the Rogers deal?

I dunno how true that is, and if Allen handed in a request he'd be open to bid.
That said I dunno if we'll sign him.
Happy with Borini coming in, listening to the opinions of a few Italian fans they seem to think we've got a good player coming in. That statistical analysis I posted earlier makes me like him too. And Brendan has worked with him before, he's lived in England a lot so wont get homesick etc... looking forward to it. Direct replacement for Kuyt I think.

Looks like Maxi's all but gone as well. Something needs to be done about our options on the wings.

Quote: Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers on a mission to unlock Jordan Henderson talents by James Pearce
The 22-year-old England international endured a difficult first year at Anfield following his £16million switch from boyhood club Sunderland.
However, Rodgers believes it was always going to take time for Henderson to settle and is convinced he will prove to be a success with the Reds.
“I look at the young kid Jordan Henderson who got a wee bit of stick last year but do you know what, this is a boy who was 21 years of age,” said Rodgers.
“I thought when I first saw him at Sunderland that this kid is going to be a really good player. He’s then coming out here for a bucket-load of money, coming to a massive club and massive expectation.
“He moves away from home, he is on his own and he has to be a world beater straight away. It was never going to happen.
“But this kid can play football. If he is in a certain system – in an environment which is going to help him and educate him in the game – you will see that.”
Henderson, who scored twice in 48 appearances last season, is still on leave following England duty at Euro 2012 but is due to meet up with the Reds squad in Boston on July 23.
Rodgers is looking forward to getting to work with him having received rave reports after the youngster’s application.
“The biggest thing for me that I’ve heard about Jordan is his attitude. He has got an incredible attitude,” he said.
“If you have got a player like that who has got the ability and the thirst to learn – he can run all day, he is physically good, he is strong, he is quick – and you can remodel him, you can end up getting the value you paid for the player.
Free Bingo for New Players at MeccaBingo.com “But of course last year was difficult for him. I’ve got a number of players like that, who I can hopefully wrench everything out of to get the maximum out of them.”
Rodgers insists all members of the squad he inherited will have the chance to stake a claim in pre-season, including Joe Cole who spent last season on loan at Lille.
“I have worked with Joe in the past. I know his strengths, I know his qualities,” Rodgers added.
“When he first came here, it was difficult.
“He got sent off in his first game, he was injured and it was a bit broken for him.
“But I am assessing everyone.”
I like that :)

I think he is a good little player, sad to see him go, I just hope he settles as I think this is now his 5th club in 2 seasons.
I think he was sold so Roma could sign Destro, we also have some ready made replacements for him.

I'm so glad that there's someone out there counting statistics that don't confirm a single thing
Welcome to the club, Fabio. Goodbye Maxi.
I couldn't be more indifferent about our transfers though.

Interesting to see that Pepe won't be taking part in the American Tour. I know its a pretty pointless tour, but you'd think Rodgers would want to have the full squad together having just taken over

How is pre-season meaningless? The fans pay, they should be able to see all the best players. It also gives the players match fitness which you don't get from just training.

When you take Suarez out of the attack, not much else there.
There will be a lot of pressure on the new guy.

Have to agree BB about the forward stock excl the new guy who by the way is Fabio Borini ;) I don't think he has much pressure TBH...unlike Carroll for eg due to the high fee and expectations. All depends how quickly he settles for as you know some fit like a glove others just don't, looking forward to it...
