Quote:Always good to see. The more of these kids you get, the more likely you are to get a successful one :)No risk, and possibly big rewards. Not really. We've spent some 30m under Benitez on 'young prospects' and of those, only half a dozen have ever actually made a first team debut. The Doctor wrote:Quote:Bottom line is, though we signed some decent players like Garcia, Alonso, Reina and Torres under Benitez, we also wasted money on the likes of Morientes, Babel, Keane, Itandje, Dossena, Sissoko, etc.
They're looking to build the club into a business instead of a money sieve like City or Chelsea. Expect to see these 'Arsenal-esque' signings and a much more 'buy to sell' approach to get back to the top. Expect to see young talented players like Afellay, Aissati, Hazard, Elia, etc. I dunno about Sissoko, he was alright, his distribution wasn't the best but Mascher really put him pale in comparison, we did make abit of a profit for him mind you... Babel was well ehhh, alot of clubs were interested at the time so it's abit ehh, was a good one at the time but he hasn't continued on... Itandje was like wtf, Benitez bought these reserve keepers and bought all these youth keepers when we've got a world class keeper who 'should' be there for a fair while, when he bought Cavileri it made no sense to me, just wasting money. Dossena was a big fail but the really annoying thing was that you just knew it wasn't going to work, the translation of italian players to the prem is just awful. Elia would be an awesome signing Sissoko was alright, but he wasn't really a success for the club for mine. He's a reasonable player, but he couldn't make the jump in standard from a mid-table expectation to europe every season and his distribution for the role he's required to play was very, very average. That said, I'd take him over Poulsen any day of the week. sydneycroatia58 wrote:Mulhollanddrive wrote:Mmm, we'll see. City have to make around an 80m profit over the next two years to have any chance of competing in europe. They can't afford any further excessive spending.

Been linked with N'Zogbia and Lisandro Lopez. I'd welcome Nzogbia with open arms. He has been superb recently. Super quick, amazing left peg and a good wide player, which we lack.
Lopez would be good too - but I wouldn't want us to overpay for him.

The liverpool derby and maybe Man U games were Saturday last year which was great as you could all go to a mates and watch with a few drinks. This year I don't think I've seen a Liverpool game. Although I don't think I'm missing much.

Quote:RAUL: Why I want a Kop Goal.
Raul Meireles has spoken of his desire to get his first goal in a red shirt in the very near future.
While a team victory will always mean more to him than personal glory, the Portugal international has been getting closer and closer to finding the net in recent weeks.
A stunning long-range effort for his country in Iceland during the last international break showed he is capable of scoring spectacular goals, and Liverpool's No.4 has vowed to carry on shooting in his quest for a debut strike.
"I had some opportunities to score against Blackburn including a great chance in the first half, but the most important thing for me is the team and the victory," Meireles told Liverpoolfc.tv.
"I would like to score my first goal for Liverpool and feel the joy of the fans.
"It is always a special feeling to score a goal and to do it for Liverpool, especially at Anfield, would be a fantastic moment.
"I do like to try a shot from distance during a game and it's something I feel comfortable with it.
"The goal I scored against Iceland was a bit lucky but hopefully I can get one for Liverpool soon." Nice one son :) You'll get one soon. Maybe even tonight...

Roy Hodgson has named an unchanged starting XI for Liverpool's Barclays Premier League clash with Bolton Wanderers today - listen live online from 3.55pm.
The Reds boss has kept faith with the same line-up that defeated Blackburn Rovers at Anfield last weekend, meaning Fernando Torres is once again partnered by Steven Gerrard in attack.
Rookie goalkeeper Martin Hansen has been named amongst the substitutes at the Reebok.
Liverpool: Reina, Konchesky, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel, Lucas, Meireles, Maxi, Cole, Gerrard, Torres. Subs: Hansen, Poulsen, Jovanovic, Spearing, Kelly, Shelvey, Ngog.
Babel not even on the bench?

Well in :)
Just a quick analysis before I head to bed.
Pepe - Great all game - did nothing wrong. Made some good stops and patrolled his area well.
Carra did well, got forward a lot and wasn't caught out. Not great, but decent.
Soto and Skrtel were fantastic. Skrtel in particular is just in top form. Some brilliant tackles and interceptions.
Konch was average again.
Lucas was great. Barely put a foot wrong and made some great interceptions and passes. He even impressed avy.
Meireles and Gerrard both very poor. Needed to do much more.
Cole was quiet also.
Maxi did very well, good interchanges with Torres and some good individual work, and of course won it.
Torres was crap for large periods, but showed some epic skills towards the end, and essentially won it. Showing glimpes. He'll be back.
Ngog did well when he came on too.
MOTM has to be one of Skrtel, Pepe, Lucas or Maxi for me.
Cant decide.... they were all very good. Lucas and Skrtel equal MOTM. :)

He still looks of the pace and devoid of confidence. however, was it just me or did Torres improve dramatically when N'Gog came on? I thought some of their link up play was really good. Perhaps it's time to try two up front? It might take some of the pressure and burden off Torres, which, in turn might result in improved confidence. Just a thought. Does anyone know the extent of Cole's injury? He didn't look too comfortable coming off. Looked sort of like a hamstring strain. Really happy with this result, it's the sort of win we need to grind out in order to start climbing up the table. I thought we weren't as creative or attack-minded as we were last week, but i suppose I've got to keep it in perspective. Bolton are a hard team to break down and are pretty strong at home. Still we controlled the tempo and play for most part and as long as we keep building from results like this I'll have no complaints.

Though I'm sure Dirk will come in for Maxi v Chelsea. That's the only change I expect. Soto and Skrtel have formed a fantastic partnership, and I don't want Johnsons return to break that up.

Two wins in a row and we are 12th, one more win and it would move us up to 5th. Wow.

No, one win could mathematically see us move up to fifth...if Tottenham lose by at least two and we win by at least three and West Brom also lose...as well as Newcastle losing and Everton, Blackpool, Sunderland, Bolton and Fulham all fail to win.

He has a shocking final product. His head is down when he runs, never looks up. He is quick but not much else. Decent option off the bench if needed, but Babel is probably better in that role.

GERRARD!!!!!!!!!!
What a class player!
I think that this win will do wonders for our confidence; bring on Chelsea! It was also nice to see us score 3 goals in a match, can't remember the last time that happened.
What a great way to start the day!

So Liverpool still haven't scored a goal not assisted or scored by Torres or Gerrard since N'gog's against Arsenal on the opening day of the season.

No, that's a lie. Not in the EPL, but we have scored many that don't fall in that criteria in the Europa League. All four of our goals v Steaua weren't involving them.
