I keep thinking to give the young talented ones runs now before the pressure starts to really build into the season.
I can't see the point throwing them in the deep end at critical times/games - blood them in sooner rather than later so as when the times are hot they are familiar with the start up main members of the squad.
Not that Ings is old but a few more years on Origi - just my train of thought.
Neither are higher as yet imo, got to prove it whilst on the pitch.

A wins a win I guess. And nice to see Benteke on the score sheet on his home debut. But I'd like to see us creating more chances than this, and preferably with a few more goals...
Good effort from Bournemouth though. They won't be a push over for anybody this season I think...

They placed just as any newly promoted - like their lives depended on it, great to see and a lesson for all.
Pressed us hard near on whole game, last 10 was bloody nervy.
We took a lot of time to settle in.
Whole backline did enough, Clyne Gomez 1st home game well done, have to say Moreno coming on played solid and typically on the attack creating a late chance having been taken down front of the box........
Benteke, early days but liking what I see, worked hard, came back helping important touchs here and there.
Could have got a late one but not meant to be but he was there importantly.
Ibe, solid as but he religiously takes them on going deep, can you just get the ball over sooner in the future.
I don't think Hendo and Milner got enough control. By the way hope Hendo is ok.
The Cout - solid attacking game, without him today no creativity.
Firmino, hard to judge from that, commentators were saying BR was getting his attention not being back in the hole enough.

Spot kicks, well it showed what a waste from that Moreno free kick, wtf Benteke didn't take control and have a go.

3points !

Well, Benteke wasn't offside running in putting it away but for the Cout in having a go at the ball was offside to me but we'll take that as the countless dubious decisions made by officials this season past and present.
Even though that new offside ruling is another melting pot :d

Definitely with the whole point of adding this new wording to the rule it should have been ruled out

Oh well. Another win is what matters

Ok. Rewatched the game.

Positives:
Clyne again very good.
Benteke making a solid contribution and getting off the mark at home.
3 points, with the owners watching on
Some signs of coutunho stepping up and owning the attack.

Negatives:
Minimal Chances created.
Lovren looked shaky.
Not a big contribution from ibe or lallana.
Not enough strings of passes.
We didn't control the midfield the way we should do at home.

I was hoping for 12 points from the first 7 games so it's great that we're halfway there in 2. But based on that performance we're going to be made to look silly against arsenal next week which could be bad for morale.
It will be a risk to play lovren and Gomez in that one. But sakho hasn't featured yet either so is a risk of a different sort.

Benteke has been really good in these opening games. That save to deny his second was crushing. But it's the things he does that Mario wouldn't, the defending from the front, being the target man, setting up Coutinho for a sitter, willingness to get back and help the defenders when we are clearly under the pump.

Genuinely excited to see him link up with sturridge.

The linesman must not have been aware of the rule.

Hell yeah. I like the new rule. Always thought it was stupid that an offside player could feign for the ball in front of the keeper.

This is a case of the linesman still working the old rule in his head.

The sooner you guys get rid of Lovren the better. He isn't ever going to step up. The quicker the sale, the quicker you can recover as much money as you can on the exorbitant fee that was paid for him. I really thought he was going to go well.

FWIW if I were you I'd look at the Manure and Arsenal threads too. A lot of discussion about those two clubs + Pool seem to spread amongst the different threads at various times.

I just don't understand why he looks to be above Sakho in the pecking order...
I'm not yet sold on lovren being a complete lost cause, but if he puts us at risk of losing sakho get rid of the man....

Thanks mate. I keep an eye on all threads in this world football section but overall it seems pretty quiet relative to the A League section. That's awesome in showing the popularity and strength of the A-League but it just doesn't quite cut the mustard from the pov of a guy more keen to talk European football.

Apparently we've offered Sakho a new long-term deal. Perhaps they are waiting for him to sign before he gets back in the team, so if he doesn't agree they can offload him without disrupting the squad. The risk of course is he doesn't sign because he isn't playing...

In reality we will need all 3 CBs performing and pushing each other. If Lovren can get his confidence and play like he did for Southampton then Sakho will have to bide his time. No doubt Skrtel will get a red card or an injury and we will have no choice. I can't see why Kolo is on the bench ahead of Sakho though.

I'd like to see Illori given a good run in the cups too.

There's a fair bit of stuff I don't understand about why we do what we do. The sakho thing is one example. Loaning out our only DM is another.

I'm starting to think BR may be a bit stranger and more unpredictable than I realised.

I'd like to see Ilorii and Gomez as the starting CBs in the league cup. Both have good potential and it would be good to see how they go together...

yep Melbourne based. I've tried to get into it but it just feels like I'm forcing myself. For me it's just like AFL... I wish I had a team I had strong feelings for but I just don't...It should be a natural thing to pick up a team.
I still watch the A-league I'm just not that passionate about it compared to Socceroos or LFC.

It's a shame you haven't connected with the A-League yet. Hopefully you will one day because it feels great to have something so close to home, and viewable live at a reasonable hour

This makes me sad :(

What do you think it is about the A-League that doesn't interest you? Is it purely the quality of football? Anything else?

By the way I follow Melbourne Victory but also follow LFC.

Hi Azza. Don't be sad! :)
I think it's just a case of that I tried to like it and that made me not like it. I.e If I had just gone in as a neutral I could've just been infected by the bug. But because I went in it expecting that to happen I started to second myself when I didn't feel as strongly as I'd expected.
Also maybe if I had more friends that watched soccer then the rivalries could have sparked up my interest.
At this stage I still see myself getting into it when I have kids and we start going to games as a family but that's a few years away yet.

Yeah see I always for some reason just really felt a connection with WSW.

That being said I am on record on here as saying I'd still prefer to watch Arsenal over WSW if given the choice and really in all honesty in terms of my football teams WSW are 3rd behind Sydney United and Arsenal.

Horse's for course's - just as everything.
I understand your view others won't here from what I have seen but care factor nil.
I do follow a ALeague club probably more so as you mention, being a Dad you tend to influence your kids ;) LFC supporters as well.

Well back onto the coming big game.
Corresponding fixture we got done 1-4.
Has anyone got any word on Hendo ?
I'd near on start up as per last game.
No Hendo Can starts up in his place.
I'm in agreeance giving Lovren another go - I really don't think we have much better anyway.
I hope we press them hard and not stay deep see how the game develops then obviously make changes.
This was one game last year that Moreno got owned a few times if some recall.
Let Gomez have his chance still then let Moreno have a run mid 2nd half to settle his demons.
I actually had some concerns earlier but you know what, early days, pre season they were deemed as hot favs but the hammers surprised them, maybe us as well ;)

We shouldn't be too pessimistic. On paper Arsenal are stronger but we can give them a contest, and if we defend well and take one of the chances that come our way it could be 3 points to us.

At this stage of the season I wouldn't risk Hendo. We want to keep him fit.

I'd start Can and Lucas and Milner, and drop one of Ibe or Lallana. A slightly more defensive formation to neutralise the menace of ozil and Sanchez. Firmino to be used as an impact sub or Moreno for fresh legs if required.
This game will be a real test for Lovren and Gomez, hopefully they step up..... If lovren has a poor game I'd switch to sakho for a while... He's the starting cb for France ahead of Koscielny, mangala and Zouma. That should put him well in contention for Liverpool's best 11.

Don't think we'll see too much change. If Hendo isn't fit (have read that he should be OK) then Can will replace him. Maybe Firmino will start ahead of Lallana who hasn't really offered much in his two outings to date. Hopefully Sakho is on the bench rather than Kolo.

Will need to ensure that Gomez has enough support, would expect they will target him with Ramsey or Ox so will be in for a test. Nothing I've seen to date would suggest he isn't up for it though.
