Nope - exact same thing happened when we signed Maxi. Atleti were in UCL, dropped down, and then he couldnt play for us.

Doesn't it work on registration though. Surely he could if he wasn't registered by Ajax which if they intended to sell him in Jan wouldn't register me.

Re: UCL/Europa Rego: Suarez can't play in Europa for us because Ajax have now gone into it after finishing third in their Group. Even though he hasn't played a game in Europa, he can't play for us in it.

No they do because Torres could play ECL for any team he enjoyed. It depends if Suarez was registered in Ajax squad when they submitted it to UEFA for the last round.

Carroll is going nowhere. We just rejected a 30m bid from a top 6 team why would we accept a bid from a team fighting for the same positions as us for the same money.

The Sun reporting that if Torres leaves that Kenny will look to launch a 30m bid for Andy Carroll.

with Suarez now coming we are strengthening our squad significantly, however if Torres leaves we are in no better position than we were prior to Suarez coming, probably worse off with El Nino going . . .

I hope that after the January transfer window he committs to the club, but not only that the club proves they are heading the right way, which will require investment in the playing stocks

I also hope King Kenny stays on for longer and proves himself over rest of premierleague season

If Torres leaves, I'd be surprised if Gerrard and Reina stay in the Summer. Can the team be any worse if you got 100m for them, another 50m for other players, spend 50m of the owners own money and had 200m for a world class manager to build his own title team?

I think Chelsea did it with similar amount in a short time. Maybe Mourinho can do it with us again.

Not if you sign another striker which is what you are apparently looking at. Of course they would have to come from a team not in European competition.

Yeah you are right.

Same thing happened to Maxi last season. We signed him from Atletico Madrid in January, and Atletico were in the Champions League which meant Maxi was in-eligible for us in the Europa League.

If Torres leaves we will have to rely on... N'Gog. :shock:

I always thought it was this, they don't differentiate between the two comps, it's just 'european competition'.

I'm pretty sure once you play in European competition be it Europa League or Champions League you can't play for another team in either competition in that same season.

I thought if you've played in Champions League you are not allowed to play for another club in the Champions League, but you could play in the Europa League.

Since Ajax finished third in the Champions League group stage they are now in the Europa League, but they haven't played a game yet

Read a fantastic point on RedAndWhiteKop - The owners were after Suarez, Young and Adam; Comolli came out and said so. Presumably this means we had at least 40m to spend. So we get 50m for Torres, what is the chances we're going to spend 90m? None.
