Quote:Former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia is dreaming of a Europa League return to Anfield.
The Finnish centre back became a legend during his time on Merseyside, spending a decade with Liverpool and skippering the side before Steven Gerrard took the armband.
Bayer Leverkusen signed the player on a free transfer in the summer of 2009, and Hyypia has enjoyed a successful spell with the Bundesliga outfit thus far. That said, Liverpool were reportedly keen on bringing the player back to Anfield last summer under Roy Hodgson.
A return to his former stomping ground could be on the cards this term though, with both clubs battling away in the Europa League and searching for qualification to the quarter finals, where a 'dream' draw could be on the cards.
"My big dream is to play Liverpool in the next round. It would be amazing to return to Anfield and play another match there," the defender told the SID news agency.
"There are only big clubs left in the competition now and these games are really exciting." Would love that. He would get a brilliant reception.

It would be great to have him back...but I'd much rather play a team like Leverkusen in the final. They could prove troublesome.
Gerrard is out of the Braga clash too.

Worrying for Liverpool, the first half was toothless, the 2nd was better but still.
Carroll played well.

It's ok. We haven't travelled well all season, and neither have they. We should have enough to take them at Anfield.
Poulsen was absolute cack, it was a mistake to play the formation we did (though there weren't many alternatives)
For the 2nd leg I'd play
----------Carroll--------- Maxi-----Cole-----Kuyt -----Lucas--Meireles----- GJ--Skrtel--Soto--Carra

Not seen the game yet, but Kenny said it was shite in the first half so I'm bound to believe him.
Not utterly shocked that Sotos gave away the penalty, though. That's his weakness. No fucking finesse.
I do love Estadio Municipal, though. Apparently the sound off the wall is amazing.

Kyrgiakos has to go. We need someone better than him.
Very average performance, as it has been without Gerrard all season. We need to do better in the second leg, obviously.

He wasn;t playing regularly because of Dagger and Skrtel coming though, as well as JC. He wanted regular time, so he had to leave for it. Soto is just a bench player, but he is usually ok. He played very well against Man U

Never given a good enough chance with a rather average squad. Hodgson got the short end of the stick.

That "average squad" had Torres (at the time one of the best forwards in europe), Gerrard (World class midfield), Agger (whom he refused to play) and Reina (arguably the best keeper in england). Dalglish had 6 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses. Or 21 points from 13 games in all competitions. 1.62 points per game Hodgson had just 11 wins, 9 draws and 10 losses or 42 points from 30 games in all competitions. 1.4 points per game. Hodgson had plenty of opportunity. 30 games is plenty of time to implement your 'game plan'.

Lets just break this down: Quote:That "average squad" had Torres (at the time one of the best forwards in europe) Who was and still is horribly out of form. FFS I would play Leon Best over Torres at the moment and all season. Quote: Gerrard(world class) Gerrard who is not at his usual peak this season and is obviously carrying some sort of niggling injury? No better than any other center back in the mid table teams and worse than some. His no Terry or Ferdinand or Toure or Cahill in terms of ability. Again well behind: van der Saar Cech Schwarzer Hart And no better than: Howard Gomes BTW Hodgson had 31 games in charge in all competitions for 13 wins 9 draws and 9 losses. 2 of those losses were to City and United and he picked up a win against Chelsea and draw with Arsenal all teams with MUCH better squads. Added Hodgson is roughly at 42% winning average for his time in charge. Dalglish is roughly at 46%. Notable improvement that one.

Quote:Who was and still is horribly out of form. FFS I would play Leon Best over Torres at the moment and all season. He scored 8 goals under Hodgson. That's not 'horrible' form. It's just not as prolific as we'd come to expect from him. Quote:Gerrard who is not at his usual peak this season and is obviously carrying some sort of niggling injury? We still play markedly better with him on the pitch than without him. Quote:No better than any other center back in the mid table teams and worse than some. His no Terry or Ferdinand or Toure or Cahill in terms of ability. #-o In the 10 games that Agger has started in, we've kept 5 clean sheets. In the 19 games he hasn't started in, we've kept 5 clean sheets. Nuff said. I'd rake Agger over Cahill or Toure any day. Plus, Agger doesn't fuck your wife or hurt himself on coffee tables. Reina is twice the keeper of VDS, Schwarzer, Howard, Gomes. On a par with Cech and Hart. Reina has 102 clean sheets in 208 league games since joining Liverpool. Not many keepers can boast that kind of record. Quote:Added Hodgson is roughly at 42% winning average for his time in charge. Dalglish is roughly at 46%. Notable improvement that one. Not including last night's result, which doesn't really count because the tie is only half over, Dalgish had a 50% record. Quote:2 of those losses were to City and United and he picked up a win against Chelsea and draw with Arsenal all teams with MUCH better squads. None of those sides should be considered vastly superior, especially after we've beaten Chelsea and United under Dalglish (something which Hodgson couldn't manage). And beating Chelsea and drawing against Arsenal doesn't mean shit when you can't beat blackpool or Wolverhampton. And at the end of the day, you're obsessing with Liverpool again. Why don't you just pull on a red jersey already and cut the crap? Edited by afromanGT: 11/3/2011 11:14:10 PM

I said that at the start of the season he was the third choice keeper and your claim that he was the reason why Arsenal didn't weigh into the market for a keeper pre-season was bullshit. I never said his performances have been rubish. But hey, if misquoting me works for your argument, go right the fuck ahead. The truth never gets in the way of a good story on FFT, does it?

Would you agree calling someone a makeweight equivalent to saying they're not good enough?
As for him being the reason we didn't buy a long term option in goals. Well Wenger himself said Szczesny was the reason. He said that if you buy a new keeper you kill 5 years of development with Szczesny and he wasn't willing to do that. It's the reason we went for Szhwarzer and not someone younger.

No, that's simply saying that they're good enough for the time being. That's not a poor reflection on Szczesny, that's just a fact of football. I've never said he was shit.
Like I said, if a player is third in the pecking order, making a claim like that is unadulterated bullshit.
But this has nothing to do with Liverpool.

Yeah my apologies took your comment the wrong way.
I was only making the claim based on what the manager has said.

Stevie has had an operation on his groin and will be out for up to 4 weeks.
It's clear he has been carrying it for a while and they've been waiting till now to do it. Good time, we only have one EPL game in the 4 weeks since the Man U game. Might miss the WBA game too. No biggie, with Carroll back fit it gives us a way to fit him easily into the team.
-----Suarez---Carroll----- Maxi---------------Kuyt -----Lucas--Meireles---- GJ--Dagger--Skrtel--JC ----------Pepe----------
Suarez will of course move around. He really needs to be given a free role. Confining him to one part of the field would be a mistake, he can wreak havoc anywhere. But I can see it looking like that on paper whilst Stevie is out.

SO looks like that bad start to the season may come back to bite Pool in the ass with 6th place not being good enough to qualify for Europe.
Of course I hope you guys get to 5th because it would be hilarious seeing Sp*rs go from Champions League to no European Football in the space of one season

The worst start to the season since before Shanks took charge and the end was always going to be tight. The only good news on the injury front is that Gerrard's presence of late hasn't been the talisman it used to be, so we can cope without him; nevertheless, Braga shows that it needs someone to be able to take control.
Carroll's good news, but those defensive injuries and the paucity in central midfield really are cause for concern. We have a weak pair of fully fit centre halfs right now considering Kelly and Aurelio are both out and Agger is a concern; who's going to sit in the defensive third with Lucas? Spearing? May as well put a cabbage patch doll out there.
But hey, these are the times when tactical fitness is more important than the squad you put out.

Worst posssible semi-final draw for us. Maybe if Stoke go bankrupt 8-[
I think we can still make 5th tbh. It'll be a behemoth effort, but it can be done. But at the end of the day we should have installed Kenny as manager when he put his fucking hand up in the first place. Common sense said it was the right thing to do at the time.
Looks like we're on the verge of signing Rennes winger Sylvain Marveaux on a free transfer. Yay, another Albert Riera-type player.

Even if Stoke go bankrupt and get relegated 3 divisions they'd still qualify for Europe next season, as long as they have their UEFA club license application in on time.
