That sucks. How could she stuff it up. It bee pretty dissapointing with a 9 team comp.

The part her advisers probably got wrong is backing a team in a small country town where the return is minimal when if she waits she could run a second Victorian team.

What now? We just have nine teams? Thats shit. Lets hope wollongong or townsville step up, i dont want nine teams.

Firstly: this is a rumour, not a fact!
Secondly: what is so bad about a nine-ten competition? All it means is that teams have a bye which is actually good because than we can have a longer season and we will more often have the best players on the park with the byes giving them time to recover hopefully.

Townsville is Northern Thunder, so if they are stepping down then it is unlikely that they could step up!:cool:

The fact is that QLD is a Rugby League and AFL supporter base. sure they have there QLD Fans, but football is a minority in QLD. i think they should scrap 1 team (townsville/GCG) and make another Victorian team

I dont no the difference between townsville and northern thunder, just like you dont know the differance between toorak and bendigo. Wollongong it is then. If they get together quickly they could get chipperfield back to aus and build a decent team.

It would be shame if townsville doesnt get in this season, because of typical shinanagans being played by out of state out of touch people....

1.   Townsville + Thuringowa alone has a population of 150000
2.   Cairns has a population of 130000
3.   There are thousands of people playing football up here
4.   Locals really support local teams. (If you come here when there is a cowboy’s game on you will see flags on cars houses and shops.)
5.   Many children play football as a precursor to a rugby career later on. Only because there is no A league.
6.   With the right sort of imports we may even increase the level of play in the A league as the cowboys have improved the NRL.
7.   What great climatic conditions for training teams headed to Asia?
8.   There is no competing between football and rugby up here (the coach of the cowboys supports the northern thunder football club)
9.   I’m sure we will support both teams with equal passion.
10.   As far as I can see the A league would be mad not to include us.

Was there some talk of a team from Wollongong. I hear they are going to sack the council down there so that will make 10 people without a job they only need to finda few more and they could make a team,give them something to do while they bite their nails.

I think you soft southerners are a bit scared of being beaten by a bunch of "red-neck" northerners.

What are you talking about? Wollongong nor Townsville will be apart of the 2008/2009 season! That is at least 5-10 years away.

I will say that I knew about Townsville Thunder a couple of weeks ago. They were just hoping that the financial backers came up with the goods, which they didn't. Now as for the team I said I know will be the 10th team. This city has had a team in the NSL and also the A-League.... how difficult could it be?

Again I will say, that should this team come in, it will be the most viable financial team in the comp... have already proposed to the FFA their financials, up-front, which will have them secure for years to come. Also the marquee player they are looking at, well has been in World Cup finals and is a world known class player... Will blow any other marquee player out of the water....

better that the FFA dont givem the go ahead now and they are ready next year, than they join, flop and then never join again.

As I've said eslewhere to me this situation is like the situation with Wellington last year. Need an extra team and there's an interested party. I can't see why they don't turn to this bloke from Wollongong and tell him to get cracking.
