Omg, what the fuck. I went to sleep at like 3am, we had Clarke and smith in and were cruising.
That is a shocking loss. Absolutely disgraceful.

That is a shocking loss. Absolutely disgraceful. Then Clarkey follows it up with "only losing by 75 runs, we can take some positives from that". No you can't. We can't look at the "flipside" anymore. Look at the fact that we've lost the last 7 from 8 tests ffs. -PB

Upon hearing the news, and given the situation we were at tea, I'm totally: But really, I think we should all just be thinking: Because we all shouldn't be that surprised. It was a chase-able total. 300 in 1.5 days really should be cruisy as fuck, but right now our batting lineup is more useless than cold coffee. Quite frankly, I think this book should be published, and Cricket Australia should make every player who pulls on a baggy green read it cover to cover and fucking memorize it. I cant remember exactly but I would say a good shout was our last trip to South Africa, we bowled them out for 80ish and got rolled for less than 50 very quickly

So who do we keep, who do we give some more chances and who do we throw out.
From the Ashes squad who have played I say keep, Rogers Clarke Haddin Harris Pattinson (although injured and did not play that well in the tests he played) Siddle Lyon
More Chances to Hughes Warner Smith Starc Bird
Throw out Watson, not a test match batsman, not a test match bowler, too old, should never play another test for Australia Cowan, not a test match batsman, should never play another test for Australia. Khawaja, failed to do well in the series, needs some more time to improve, I was wrong about him, thought he was better than he is. Agar, very young, a couple of years of shield cricket should improve him a lot as long as the shorter forms of the game do not ruin him.
Of those who have not played I would not mind if Faulkner was given a go in the last test.

I'm pretty sure Davis Patik jinxed it again.
Watson shouldn't be in the team. Khawaja has been horrible.
Cowan's a decent player but he's not better than the other players waitin gin the wings. The idea that he's in the team but Brad Hodge was entirely ignored for majority of his team is sad.

Cowan is a worse player than Hodge and a worse player than David Hussey, Jamie Siddons, Jamie Cox, Michael Divenuto and Stuart Law of whom only Law played test cricket and that was only 1 match. Also Smith, Khawaja and Watson are all worse than the players on that list as well although Smith and Khawaja might become that good. Edited by Davis_Patik: 13/8/2013 08:14:26 PM

People just like to hate Watson, he made a score in the first innings ffs. Hardley drop worthy. Everyone got sick of Cowan and wanted him dropped, so he was, and now Usman is in. Despite his scores, he is still a good bat and now you want to drop him too? For who? Cowan again?

I think it's a bit rough that Hussey hasn't been given a chance. Same goes for Brad Hodge.
Siddons is probably the only one who's proved himself worth of a call up.

RedKat wrote:So people want to drop the likes of Watson, Cowan, Khawaja but who in state cricket is worthy of replacing them? Good question. Phil Hughes is not in the current team so he is an obvious replacement. Nick Maddinson has done extremely well for Australia A so he might be worth a try. Alex Doolan is a good player, not sure if he is good enough. He did not do much for Australia A or Tasmania last season though. George Bailey had a horror first class season for Tasmania but I still think he might do okay. Callum Ferguson and Mark Cosgrove have been around for a while and been talked about from teenagers as possibly playing for Australia. Both do not have great first class records but did okay last first class season so maybe one of them. Cosgrove's career first class average of 43 actually compares favorably to most likely to be considered. Joe Burns possibly but probably not ready. Jordan Silk is another opener but only 21 with 5 first class games. However most of these were not on the Australia A tour. Instead we had players like Finch, Maxwell, Henriques and Shaun Marsh all who are not going to be test batsmen as far as I can tell. Could always see if the player who has scored 936 runs at 72 in county cricket this seasons wants to play in the next Ashes series. He has a rather good test record and can open or play in the middle order. Pity the captain does not like him.

Look at Broad and Agar this series. It is the overall record that counts. At the moment Matthew Wade's test record is better than Watson. I made a mistake with Usman Khawaja, I thought he would do well, I was wrong.

Watson still averages around 35, which isn't that bad really. He is an absolute Tit, but still a solid batsman. Usman is a player of massive ability, he just needs time in the test team.

Don't know where you got this from. Watson, 41 tests, two 100's, nineteen 50's, 2580 runs @ 35.34 Wade, 12 tests, two 100's, three 50's, 623 runs @ 34.61

Two centuries in 41 test is woeful for a batsman. I thought Wade's average was a bit higher, sorry.

Sure it's a poor conversion, but he is still good enough to make a score.

Watson 13 Tests, 0 100's, 8 50's, 661 runs @ 26.44 I don't really think Wade is the right option to replace him, but Watson hasn't batted to Test Standard for a long time.
