Would be asking a lot of the bowlers to take 20 straight wickets on this pitch

Give the bowlers a break. They'll bat out today, maybe first session of tomorrow and declare.

Yup, once they're back near 550/600 it'll be dec time, but only after the Poms have been out in the sun for a while.

I'd say prolly lunch if we survive till then.

Mitchell Johnson has taken 16 wickets @ 8.93. That is just fucking outrageous.

If only he could bowl like this more than once every 4 years, he might actually be considered a good bowler

like I said, 220 wickets and counting, with regular valuable runs.

Massively underrated, finally performing at his peak, long may it continue.

Those two phrases don't really go together .

His average is sub 30 for the first time in his career. There's little reason to believe that it'll stay that way. He leaks runs far too often, and is average far more often than he is amazing, to be considered anything more than a good bowler overall. If he manages to maintain this sort of form for the series, I may start leaning his way. If he's just as good over the next year, i may be a believe. But I don't see it happening.

I agree that he's probably underrated. The fact only 9 Aussies have taken more wickets than him is amazing considering so many fans hate him.

I do love that the Barmy Army targeted him pre series and thought he was the weak link.

Follow on wasnt enforced because of the Perth test so close to the Adelaide one.

I wouldve still enforced the follow on tbh.

Be interesting to see when Clarke declares. I think it will be as soon as he gets his century, or when he gets out if he doesn't make it to 100.

Well there's a surprise. Clarke has declared before play and so England need 531 to win with Australia needing 10 wickets to go 2-0 up. I'd say that declaration has something to do with the storms forecast for the afternoon, doesn't want to waste time getting runs he knows he probably doesn't need.

No real surprise. IIRC 531 would be a record run chase for Adelaide Oval and with the weather closing in 2 days to bowl out England could be necessary when they've got that sniff of a draw if it starts to rain.

England would have been hoping to be 3 or 4 down at the end of play and come back tomorrow. Instead they're 4 down before tea.

It's remarkable how similar a pattern all the English innings have followed. Johnson will now come out after tea and take the last 6 for 5 runs or something ridiculous.

They'll cling to the hope of making it to stumps with only losing 1 more wicket and cross their fingers for rain.

Hopefully Mitch can come out and bowl them over after Tea.

You'd have to say, unless there is some rain of biblical proportions, that Root wicket spells the end for England.

Rain for the first session tomorrow and a draw is definitely achievable.

Rain for a session and half, then somehow survive the rest of the day with Monty and Jimmy (and the team physio) holding out for the last half hour ;)
