The only reason these players get a chance is because so many of the national players are NSW players and the constant stream of players getting their chance due to this are consistenly stepping up.
FYI: I don't claim Hauritz or Watson ours. I am aware of their roots.
Your argument is defeated by the fact NSW felt the need to sign Hauritz and Watson... Also, we all know the NSW bias that existed under the previous Australian selection panel, the old saying that when you received your NSW cap you had your baggy green tucked inside it gave us such great test cricketers as Doug Bollinger, Beau Casson, Phil Hughes, Nathan Hauritz, Phil Jaques and Steven fucking Smith! All have been terrific success stories in the Baggy Green don't you think buddha? Claiming NSW is superior because of the number of national players you have, when so many of the national players you have are international failures, is a pretty dumb argument to run mate... and FYI: No one was denying where Forrest and Cowan originally came from either, you brought this silly argument up all by yourself champion! Bollinger rarely played a poor game in the baggy green. Casson had 1 or 2 good Shield matches and they gave him a dig when we were searching so desperately for a spinner Hughes was the next big thing in cricket, still think he can hit the peak with some technical refinement Jaques ditto Bollinger, rarely played poorly, dropped due to his personality and injury Smith ditto Hughes, both highly touted, blooded too early. Hauritz could not even turn the ball, unsure why he got a gig. NSW struggled with spin bowlers, we went out and got one who turned out to be half decent at Shield leve. Hindsight is a wonderful thing on decisions but few can argue that the callups of the players you mentioned deserved their baggy green. Where did I say people denied where Forrest and Cowan came from? I said states attempted to claim them, not say they were raised there. Explain what you mean? You say Queensland tried to claim Forrest and Tasmania Cowan, but your saying that NSW didn't claim Watson and Hauritz? You can't have a dig at other states for poaching when NSW has a long history of being the biggest poacher in Australian domestic cricket. Casson, Smith and Hughes you all say got the baggy green too early, but thats exactly my point! These guys where all picked well before they where ready, simply because of the NSW bias in the selection panel at the time, where as other players like Matty Hayden had to score literally 15,000 first class runs before being given a permanent baggy green! Now finally we have a selection panel who award baggy greens on merit, such as with Ed Cowan who has earned his spot over the course of 3 seasons, not 3 matches. Long may it continue! Puhlease. Points in bold are bullshit and you know it. You cannot compare the likes of Hayden, Hussey to Hughes and Smith. There were copious amounts of batsman in the late 90's early 00's who could play for Aus. In 2008-09, there were hardly any, they gave a cap to a young up and coming player who has a bright future in the game instead of selecting 30+ players in a time when Aussie cricket was going through a changing of the guard. I agree with you RE: the new selection panel, it's refreshing to see. Its NOT crap and YOU know it. Tasmania and Queensland may have taken a NSW player each, but both where NSW rejects, NSW poached a current international in Shane Watson... nuff said about that! You started this, not me. Also you say you can't compare to Hayden and Hussey, because the Aus selectors chose to select a young kid instead of "selecting 30+ players" but champ both Hussey and Hayden where over 30 when they received their call up's! (recall in Hayden's case) The decision of the previous selectors to continually select young players with 4 shield games of experience under their belts rather then the "30+ players" was a major reason why Australia lost the ashes so embarrassingly last year! and THAT is my point, that these young NSW kids where being given opportunities over older experienced players who had actually EARNED an opportunity and it was to the severe detriment to the Australian cricket team. Edited by RJL25: 18/1/2012 11:45:20 PM Watson moved to NSW for family reasons, therefore he plays for NSW, not that he ever does. I suppose you think Nathan Lyon being called up is a joke because he had only played 4 or 5 shield games? A teams future lies within its young players, who become the experienced players in later years. If a team of 30+ year olds retire in a 2 year period, then what? We spend another 2 years wasting away developing a bunch of kids who could have had test match experience beforehand. That's why these young kids get selected, yes most of them are from NSW but they are talented cricketers hence their selection, no matter what state they are from.

Yeah, that's the only problem I have with ICC. Very basic. Would love a combination of that and FM. Someone (Cricket Coach) tried it, but the Match Engine was horrible. I've had some great moments in ICC though. Brought in a youth player through my Durham side, turned into a legendary opener. Come to his last test for England (Which I was in charge of), he had 99 FC Hundreds and 49 Test Hundreds. I decided to just bat him in, forget the result, and see what he could do. He scored 428, finished a hero, and retired straight after the test.

It's the closest thing to a cricket FM and I don't mind that it's very basic, it's still very addictive for me. If we're talking about greatest moments in ICC just see a few pages back in WFMB. Murray Goodwin is a gun. In that same save I've got a really good youngster I discovered at Sussex and is only 20 and already a regular for my England team. He's averaging 98 in first class matches this year and has just scored a triple century albeit against Duhram University.

Appalling shot from Pietersen, leaving England in deep trouble. Now 5/74. Only hope of winning is Trott and Prior with the tail getting them a lead of at least 100 and Swann bowling them to victory. Would be a massive boost to Pakistani cricket if they get up though

I was before my net started cutting out so just been listening to it since not long after the pietersen wicket. I wouldn't look too much into the result from an English perspective, just some minor adjustments to the conditions for the bowlers and some hard work in the nets for the batsmen. Not gonna find many tougher conditions than this, plus I thought the Strauss decision was ridiculous.

I would try and watch it if it wasn't for the fact England have little to no hope anymore, and because Monfils is on. Why Fox just can't show this match on the red button.

 South Africa. 2/171 after 24 overs, end up finishing on 299. Sri Lanka get it with 8 balls and 5 wickets to spare.

Brilliant piece of cricket.
On another note: (was going to post this in WGMG, but I think it'll get more appreciation here)
We lost cricket today, by 1 wicket.
We batted first and made 126 (40 overs) At their drinks break we had them 2/28 (20 overs) They finished up 9/128 after 38.4 overs. FML.
We have thrown away 4 games now; today's match, fell 7 runs short in another, fell 15 runs short the game before that and also got bowled out for 160 chasing 180 after we had them 7/80.
WTF is this bullshit. I hate cricket :p

Edited by vaughn2111: 21/1/2012 07:11:44 PM  I know how this feels. A few years ago in a semi final, they needed 3 off the last ball, so the captain puts everyone on the boundary. I remember standing behind the stumps, keeping and thinking that this #10 batsman is no chance to hit a boundary and win it with his stick-thin bat. He hit a 6. Straight over the head of the captain. Devo.
