Supercoach for Dandaloo: Norm the man

It is the combination that will make Dandaloo's rivals tremble in fear - the Illawarra Premier League's most well-credentialled coach, its most loaded playing roster and the chance to scale unheard-of heights.
And it is reality after the treble winners announced Norm Boardman will be their coach next year.

Boardman - a former Football NSW technical director and the FFA's National Coaching Education Manager - will take over after six years at Picton.

The change, which came to light less than 48 hours after Dandaloo's crushing grand final win, is the highest profile of at least six expected coaching moves this off-season.

League runners-up Albion Park, Tarrawanna, Picton and Fernhill have vacancies to fill, while former Foxes coach Alan Paine has been appointed at Cringila.

Boardman will replace Peter Beggs, who stepped down after winning a hat-trick of league titles from 2005-7, plus the preseason and Bampton Cups and grand final this term.

That haul would have been an unprecedented clean sweep if not for a loss to Port Kembla on the last day of the league campaign.

With an already-unrivalled array of talent at his disposal, Boardman admitted it would be difficult to live up to his predecessors Beggs and Rob Birkin, who won a league-cup-grand final trifecta last year.

"I'm on a hiding to nothing, there's no two ways about it," Boardman said.

"They're there to win championships.

"Everyone else is going to be even more up for it because not only have Dandaloo got the sponsorship, but they've got a new coach."

Boardman - who guided the mountain men to grand final glory in 2005 and 2006 - wants to leave the expectations for next year to others.

"I have two goals: make sure the boys enjoy their football on game day and in training and have guys like (Alvin) Ceccoli and (Chris) Jackson mentor the young blokes like Ryan Emerton and Eugene Turner," he said.

Albion Park officials met last night to discuss potential replacements for two-time grand final winning boss Steve Micevski, who has stepped down for personal reasons.

Assistant coach Tony Naumovski and youth grade mentor Jason Higgs are among the hopefuls to take over the top job at Terry Reserve.

Tarrawanna have at least eight applicants for their first grade job after Gary Fernie was shown the door.
