if a person creates a topic, could the person who made the topic have the option to delete the topic? I've had a few issues, including puting topics in the wrong category, or wanting to take back something i had said. At the moment when we put a topic out we cant delete it.

Yeah I agree with this. For example in the rumour mill when the rumour was CCM having a Brazilian striker, the info was so bad that I actually needed to start a new thread when better info came in. Joffa locked it for me but it still sits there.

But there is the issue of other people's posts being deleted without their permission.

if you mean other peoples topics being deleted without permission, well i mean only the person who created the topic can delete it, but if you mean other peoples posts in the topic, im sure they wont really mind ;)

well, you said yourself people might not be happy for you to delete all their posts, by only being able to lock it, this wouldn't be a problem

most of the time when mods are asked to get rid of threads, they only lock them anyway

I wasn't the one who said people would be upset with their posts being deleted, and why would they care? Plus normally when you want to delete a topic it is because you realise it was a stupid topic to start, therefore people would be making fun of it in their posts

sorry, you weren't the one who said that after all, but you would be surprised by how many people care about their post counts

and when locking a thread people can't make fun of you in that thread anymore anyway, and i've never seen people make fun of other people's 'failed' threads in completely different threads, and what does it matter if people make fun of you anyway, they're don't mean it in a malicious way, they're not gonna kill you, sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me ffs.

I will respect your opinion and I do believe you that people care about their posts (not sure why) as you have been on this forum longer than me, but for someone like me who's constantly creating new forums I need this option! And I would think you would have a deleting option on all forums

Putting more thought into what you post is a good option.

Thats not going to happen all the time, is it to much to ask to have one little option just in case?

I understand it would be a stupid action, but I imagine it wouldn't be hard to simply imply a delete option, what if you accidentaly press the post button instead of cancel, anything can happen

Silly arguments. Deleting and locking threads is down to mods. End of story.

Just because you started a thread does not mean you moderate it.

This.

In the end, it gives people to much freedom to decide what people discuss in 'their' thread. A thread starter could delete a thread just because he disagrees with what someone else has said in it, and they have no right to do that.

If you really want some deleted that bad, ask a mod, and it'll be taken into consideration, but generally I don't see deleting threads as a good solution.
