NSW will no longer be competing in the Manchester United Premier Cup sponsored by Nike. Will be a lot of disappointed youngsters.

Manchester United Premier Cup Statement 28.10.10 10:04

Due to commercial conflicts Football NSW has made the decision to discontinue our involvement in the Manchester United Premier Cup.
Football NSW would hope players and supporters alike appreciate that sponsors are difficult to gain and we have an obligation to ensure we adhere to our contractual arrangements with them.

Football NSW would like to thank the organisers of the Manchester United Premier Cup for the fantastic opportunities given to the Marconi Stallions and Sutherland Sharks in representing Oceania in the UK against the world’s best talent.

This decision is very sad for Australian youngsters and FFA should overrule this action as it is a commercial one. Commercial interests of a State are prioritised over football development of a nation.
NSW Football Clubs and U15 will miss the opportunity to be exposed to the world through this tournament.
How about Australian senior team sponsored by Nike participaits in an Adidas Ball sponsored FIFA WC?
I do not know much about the law but there must be clause in there about restriction of trade, also FNSW dictating FFA they do not want to compete in International tournament just sound wrong.

The decision is an insurance one, last year in England an Australian player broke hes leg to the point where he may not walk again and as such this year the people who run this comp can not offer insurance so as a duty of care FNSW has pulled out of the comp, after what happened last year you can see why

Any registered player in NSW competition is virtually not insured if injured, insurance will only partially cover surgery and recovery physio cost, so a knee reconstruction bill of approximately $6000 - $8000 a parent will be lucky to get $2000 from insurance and $1500 from Medicare the rest you on your own.
Sorry to hear about the injured young player in England but the sad truth is after all the rego fees we pay here in NSW if you unfortunately get injured here at home there is very little insurance and most of the expanses will have to be covered by the parents anyway.

You seem to forget rego fees and this man utd trip aint in the same bracket, a individual company runs the man utd comp and FNSW was not happy with the insurance the company offered so as such didnt want to risk anymore young players,

How much worse can it be than the current general player insurance?
I was stating that players in NSW comp are not looked after with the current insurance.
This is first hand information, I know at least 6 players U15/ U16/U18 and U 20 that needed knee surgery in last two seasons.
FNSW has about 300 000 registered players, MU Cup for the U15 in NSW have 24 Premier and Super Youth teams of about 384 players taking part in it and we can not find Insurance for them?
If there is a will there is a way, how about charging them an extra $100 for insurance?
Some how our Football community in NSW are paying astronomical fees and charges and can not get same Insurance like New Zealanders?
Someone from FNSW please get on the phone and ask Kiwis how come they can get insurance for less money and we can not?

you seem to miss the whole point and just want to bring up a different story,

FNSW was not happy with the insurance offered by the company running the competition so it said no, its not FNSW's job to find suitable insurance for a comp they are not running, they have alot on there plate already, maybe your question should be with the competitions runners who have offered a sub-level insurance policy

Have a read of this, and this.
I have had thousands of dollars of treatment from ACC for rugby injuries, including a knee reconstruction. The NZRU in this case also provides their own insurance for serious injury (i.e. Paralysis, Head Injury), but the rest is dealt with by ACC. Having it with ACC means it is done privately too \:d/
