Southern Cross United are based in Mansfield on the Southside of Brisbane. There was talk earlier in the year that Mount Gravatt had launched a QSL bid, with the hope of also still playing in the Brisbane Premier League.
I am guessing that Southern Cross United is a sort of 'spin off' from the Mt Gravatt club. The Mansfield electorate contains Mt Gravatt, so this certainly seems plausible. People are saying that they could play at QSAC - as choosing Dittmer Park would associate themselves more with Mount Gravatt which a few people up here have not taken kindly too.
A lot of people in Brisbane prefer the Brisbane Premier League to the Queensland State League. Proper clubs who have tried to play in the QSL in the past simply could not afford it due to exceedingly high travel costs, namely Brisbane Olympic and 2009 grand final winners Redlands United (Redlands City Devils). The general feeling is that a state competition cannot work in Queensland - however FQ are determined to make it work - hence these regionally positioned franchises along the Queensland East Coast.
