Needs a huge readjustment. Sin bin should be used more for high shots, spear tackles and late hits, with send offs only in extremes. Would prefer if a player who does something worth around a 1 match ban went to the sin bin instead. Players would miss less games and the teams who are offended against get the advantage.

Something needs to change, either start sin binning players or have an 18th man for situations like this so you don't have the team that's penalised being the one who gets the advantage for the rest of the game.

NRL has become a joke these last couple of seasons.

Just fold all the teams and shut down the competition in the interest of Australian sporting integrity.

I've just seen it and I feel like Frizell was just very careless and it wasn't intentional, should've been sent to the bin & an 18th man being an emergency on the sidelines to come on certainly has merit.

I've heard talk of an 8 week ban which is simply ridiculous, I hate how reactionary the NRL can be as we've seen with Graham, Paulo, McClean, etc. Careless behavior shouldn't be receiving 6+ week bans, save that for intentional dog shots.

Turns out Frizell is going to only get a couple of weeks, the news report I was reading must have gotten the charges wrong.

In other news both Broncos sides are on top of the league. :d

Good to see that Munster played well yesterday. (We really should've been in his ear in the last year or so).

Also Ogden scored his 100th QCUP try yesterday, a shame no nrl club has taken him under their wing. Meanwhile clubs have the likes of Maranta, Wright & co still running around. ](*,)

There has been some great talent in the QCUP that have been overlooked or simply been very unfortunate with their chances in the NRL. I was thinking about Shannon Walker the other day, he just looked a class above whenever he had the ball. He got picked up by the Titans and never took off and I can't help but wonder why.

In regards to Walker, Cartwright had no idea what he was doing, Walker needed to be given a permanent spot in the side for a couple of years and just let him play his natural game instead Carty gave him a handful of opportunities and because he didn't play like a superstar in those matches he was dumped. ](*,)

Its just frustrating that there is probably about 20 maybe 30 guys in the QCUP who would be very handy additions to most NRL clubs yet most of these clubs simply don't care.

Tbh I disagree about Mason, he still has something to offer he's still making his runs getting good metres, breaking tackles, getting offloads away and working hard in defence. The fact that he's Manly's best prop would be a major concern though.

But yea it mostly laziness the Broncos (and other clubs) should have scouts watching every QCUP, NSWCUP & theU20's and just funneling the most talented into our squad.

Meanwhile the Broncos have plodders like Reed, Maranta, Vidot (He has played some good games but we could do better) and a secondrower in Oates. We should be doing better particularly when the likes of Ogden, JBowen, Munster, Anderson, MBarba, Valekapa & JMamo are running around in state leagues and I'm sure there's a few more. I know a few of these guys are already in some NRL squads but with promises of first grade time it wouldn't be hard to poach them.

Bellamy does a great job of this.

The jump between QCUP or NSW cup and the NRL is huge. There are a few players who could become first graders, but the majority would struggle at NRL level, particularly with decision making and defense. Look at Cody Walker, I played a fair bit of footy with him and always thought he would be great in the NRL, and was easily the best player in the QCUP, but he was at the Storm last season under one of the best coaches in the league in a team desperate for a half, and still couldn't get a game.

The under 20's need to go down to under 18's, and there needs to be a proper reserve grade played before first grade, whether it be as NSW and QCUP, or possibly a new model. 20 year olds need to be playing senior footy by that age, and the lack of players that go from Holden Cup to NRL shows that.

As for Shannon Walker, it wasn't John Cartwright's fault he didn't make it. He's a great bloke, but he had too many weaknesses at the top level. The fact he struggles to get minutes for the rugby 7's team says enough.

Firstly re Shannon Walker it wasn't my intention to single out Cartwright as the reason why he didn't make it. Shannon was a very mercurial player and he did have a lot to work on and his career has certainly not lived up to expectations. But I still think Cartwright's mentoring/management style was horrendous and off the top of my head bar Sezer no talented youngster at his club really took the next step.

Re Cody Walker I still think he has the talent to make it into the NRL but if he's up to it mentally I'm not sure. (Obviously he has a few off-field things that he has to get through first)

Re the unders 20's, reserve grade in fact all the way down to the juniors is a clusterfuck and I just can't be bothered going into this, everyone knows some massive changes need to be made here.

Now lastly I know the gap between the State leagues and the NRL is huge and that I wasn't trying to say all these guys would be success stories as most most likely won't. I'm just trying to point out that there is a large number of guys in NRL who simply shouldn't be there and clubs would be better off giving these other guys an opportunity.

For instance Maranta, the only thing he's good at is catching kicks (in fact he's exceptional at that) but physically he's not an NRL player he doesn't have size/strength like a Manu Vatuvei, no speed like a Morris, doesn't have the athleticism like a Jason Nightingale, no footwork like RTS. He makes like 3 meters a run, can't break tackles, he's an average defender (as an ex winger myself I'll forgive him on that one  ) he's simply not an NRL player.

Just think twelve months ago if someone at the Broncos bothered to pay attention to the State Leagues we could've had Marika Koroibete at the club instead. :(

That St George / Broncos match was a barnburner

They often say that the NRL is rigged (ie the National Rigged League), just like boxing, but boxing is tough, just like the NRL, and theres no fallacy in that comparison

Leichhardt oval on a fine sunday afternoon

Its one of the truer "Australian" experiences but its destined to be confined into the memories of days past, the classic suburban ground where the crowd is not massive, nor are the facilities all that great, but the size of the ground just makes it look jam packed, and the atmosphere is something else

Alas blame the NRL to not have this event on a regular basis, also the scheduling is terrible with the NRL scheduling night games there (why?), and when there has been a day game there, it has been cursed in recent seasons with bad weather

But, then again, less is more

So Jamil Hopoate and two of his cousins smashed the shit out of some bloke they thought had them kicked out of a pub and get between 1 year and 1 year 9 months prison time? I thought they were meant to be coming down hard on coward punches?

This dickhead should never be allowed to pay any kind of professional sport again. Watching the video on ninemsn is sickening. The bloke is clearly out cold and they keep kicking him. I sincerely hope they have a terrible time in prison and for the rest of their lives for being such cowards.

It's actually pretty funny from the Telegraph. Guy beats a woman and he gets a puff piece while serving a 9 month suspension. James Graham yells at a referee and he's the devil's spawn

Thankfully the people of Brisbane have got their priorities straight and have gone to the Broncos ANZAC game instead

Noticed Ben Creagh barking at the ref yesterday, wonder if he'll be suspended?

Have to remind myself not to watch any matches featuring the Dragons or the Roosters, the way both teams play is everything that is wrong with our game.

The wrestling in each ruck that these sides do is ridiculous.

The Dragons are actually worse as they'll get some fucker to flop over each ruck to slow down the play the ball, gaining them an average of 5-10 seconds more, which allows them to get their defensive line set so they can rush up for the next play the ball.

Very frustrating that there seems to be one set of rules for one team and another set for the other teams.

Anyway it boggles the mind that Bird (and Lewis) gets selected for Australia yet Fensom can't get selected for the city country match.
