Give me freedom...give me fire (World cup 2010). No doubt its soundwave was great. It is one of my favorite number. Love it.

RIP Soundwave PerthCan't blame AJ too much for this one. The state government honestly couldn't care less about anything, be it sports teams, art exhibits or music festivals, that tours nationally. The mining boom has also raised expenses and considering how far from the other capital cities it is, can't say i'm too surprised. Still, very dissappointing. i'd like to think we'd get a few more sideshows out of it, but I highly doubt it.

Soundwave was awesome. Won't go through each band, coz I saw quite a few, but Trivium, Volbeat and Skindred were the standouts. Volbeat breaking into Raining Blood during their last song was just a perfect moment, the whole crowd went nuts. Trivium have been average the past 2/3 times I've seen them, but they were on point yesterday, and Skindred got the whole place moving, so much fun. Every band I saw was great though, no let downs, no lines for food/drinks, the whole day was pretty much perfect.

I love them to death and have personally donated financially to the band, and they've totally just changed their style because it'll sell. It's their third album and they're well due some recognition, but you can't make money off their old sound, no matter how good the music was. I'll love them til the day I die, and I love both sounds the band has produced, but I'll miss the old CaC.

I also had a great week, looking forward to next year already! Started off the week with the Mastodon, Baroness & Gojira sidewave, was a brilliant gig, really enjoyed Baroness and Gojira as I had never really listened to them previously. The night before Soundwave I went to Clutch's sidewave, they were supported by local band Don Fernando who were solid. Clutch were awesome, but I wish they played more of their older stuff, in saying that though it was a tour for their latest album. Due to getting home late from the Clutch sidewave, I missed out on Amon Amarth and started off Soundwave instead with TesseracT, then Graveyard who were both awesome, was great to finally see these bands live. After Graveyard I caught the end of Testament then checked out a few bands til In Hearts Wake. IHW were good but I'm sort of over there sound, I enjoyed Thy Art Is Murder more. Your Demise was my highlight of the day, more for sentimental reasons as it was their last ever Melbourne gig. Once YD had wrapped up their set I caught the end of Baroness, then watch Down. Loved Down, especially when King Parrot came on for the last song. Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats were next on the list, I had never really listened to them previously but I fell in love with their sound, was a great change up from the heavier stuff. After Uncle Acid I caught the end of Eagles of Death Metal, start of Glassjaw then finished the night with the crazy King Parrot.

I really want to like King Parrot, but fuck I just can't stand those vocals.
EDIT: The music is so fucking sick though I think it does enough to make me like it.

Yeah, caught their set waiting for Mastodon, and there's no doubt they step up live. I think they'll definitely grow on me though.

I've bought all of Eskimo Joe's albums and I've been a fan ever since I first heard 'From the Sea' and yesterday bought their album that they released last year...
2.5 songs in I realised why JB HI-FI was selling it for $8. Some of the worst music I've ever heard. Was synthetic bullshit that sounded like half aborted baby of Cut Copy and Daft Punk. I'll finish the album at some point, but it was to horrific for one sitting.

Soundwave was again brilliant. No one really blew me away like Linkin Park/The Offspring/Billy Talent did last year, but still consistently very good.
Biffy Clyro- Deserved a bigger crowd than the one they got. Couldn't hear Simon at times, but still rocked hard. Mayday Parade- Caught the end of their set and sounded pretty good. Derek's voice sounded great. Less Than Jake- God they were fun. They got a security guard on stage to dance with a girl from the audience  Sounded good as well, great banter with the audience/amongst themselves. Alkaline Trio- Did nothing for me. Sounded ok but couldn't get the crowd into it what so ever. The Living End- Chris Cheney is a very underrated guitarist. Really knows how to work a crowd. Rest of the band sounded awesome, but when you can play guitar with a beer bottle, that takes the cake. Panic at the Disco- The sound quality was shit, and I'm not their biggest fan, but Brandon Urie is a good frontman. Sounded really good despite the dodgy audio. Bowling For Soup- Just as fun as Less than Jake. Stopped near the end of half their songs to drink, talk to the crowd, and on one occasion get the whole band out front for a photo opportunity  Jaret Redick asking why the people in the Over 18 section were in prison was gold. ADTR- Solid without being spectacular. Jeremy's bubble ball stunt was wicked, and they sounded good, but didn't really do anything more than that. Jimmy Eat World- My highlight for the day along with The Living End. Was fairly near the front too. Jim Adkins sounded great, played some great songs and had a really tight set. The last three songs, Bleed American, The Middle and Sweetness, went off. Green Day- The annoying thing about Green Day, is they probably could have filled three hours with songs. But they really need to stop the gimmicks. Getting people up on stage to sing is fine, and giving the girl the guitar to keep was great. But Billie Joe constantly asking the audience to say "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" (he did it roughly 14 times during their set, i was keeping count) grew tiresome. Ditto for extending the songs out and making them longer. It's cool to do it for a few songs, but not 9 or 10. The annoying thing is, when they were just playing and not doing anything else, they sounded incredible. The Dookie section of the set was fantastic, and if they didn't mess with the song strucutre, they probably would go down as one of the best bands I'd ever seen live. They were still great to see and I'd go see them again, but all that repetition got boring after a while.
