The two red cards were to both teams.

Boardman recieved 2 yellows. One in the '72 and one on '90.

Peter Peralta for Bankstown got 2 yellows, in very quick succession, one in the '84and the '85 so one must assume he got done for lip to the referee.

Match reports from last night.

White Eagles still winless in 2011 as Bankstown nick point at Jensen Park

Quote:
Bankstown City and Bonnyrigg White Eagles played out a goalless draw at Jensen Park on Saturday night in a slow paced match where good defence was the story of the day.

The first-half was dominated by fierce tackling and good defence with neither side really etching out a clear chance over the course of the opening 45 minutes.

Early on, Nathan Elasi had a shot on goal but with little time on the ball only managed to put it well over the crossbar. Then Shannon Burgin made a great sprint on to a long chip but the Bankstown player was denied a chance by the offside flag. Then a corner from Daniel Severino was fired well over the crossbar by Alex Canak who also had little time to control it and place the ball more effectively.

Daniel Gardiner then denied Bonnyrigg once more with a great tackle that denied two advancing opponents after a poor goalkick from Zlatko Joseski put the Bankstown team under pressure.

Bonnyrigg resumed their attacking game as another corner from Severino in the 11’ minute saw Severino, Elasi and McMaster combine down the right and the ball fell to Brad Boardman with his back to goal. Boardman tried to turn but with limited space he could not offer a shot in anger.

Bankstown replied with a great run from Peter Peralta down the right-flank – Peralta saw Frederick Graham in space but once he got the ball the combination of Spruce and Robinson hunted him down and denied Bankstown another opportunity.

On 17’ minutes, Stefanos Liavas set up Burgin who had made another great run, this time away from goal to the right. Burgin beat his marker but his cross went well over the head of Graham, and Phil Zabaks got to the ball before a Bankstown attacker could.

A minute later, the visitors had a claim of handball by Bankstown defenders in the wall for a free-kick quickly dismissed by referee Andrew Best.

The next period of the match was really all about who could keep the ball the longest as each team gave up easy ball with poor passing.

In the 28’ minute a poor pass from Bankstown saw Alex Canak pounce on the ball and chip it to Nathan Elasi. Elasi headed the ball downwards but found the wrong side of the near post in a chance that should have seen the visitors take the lead. Good work from Chris Tadrosse and Shane Webb then saw Brad Boardman have a free header but he could not get enough power on the ball and Joseski saved easily.

In the 37’ minute Frederick Graham looked to have played Shannon Burgin in on goal after a fantastic run off the ball by the latter, though the offside flag denied him the chance to go one-on-one with Zabaks.

A minute later former Bankstown favourite Daniel Severino was mocked by some of the fans who once praised him as he shot well off target from 30-metres out.

Right before the break, there was a flurry of activity but just as it had throughout the opening half, all the activity failed to provide a clear shot on target.

Whilst the first-half was not of a great standard, the second-half, despite providing the same result, was a much more action-packed affair.

In the 47’ minute Hussein Salameh and Daniel Slaveski worked well to take the ball off their opponents. The move came to nothing as Graham could not chase the through ball down before it went out for a goalkick.

In the 48’ minute David Gardiner, having a fine game at the back for Bankstown, combined with Shannon Burgin down the left for some fine play but the only thing they got from it was a free-kick.

Moments later, Steven Bozinovski - orchestrating so much of the play for Bankstown from the middle of the park - played a great ball to Salameh, who hit the edge of the box and turned to shoot but only managed to put the ball well wide of the far post, thanks in part to Zabaks who had made the angle so hard for his opponent. For Salameh the turn was too much and he came off injured, to be replaced by Aman Hadid. The home-side was forced into the change that was very nearly rewarded immediately as Hadid linked up with Bozinovski as it led to a ball put just in front of the feet of Graham in the attacking area only for Ben Spruce to come across and intercept the ball.

10’ minutes into the half, Burgin tried a shot from 40-metres out and the ball actually went closer than most of the other shots in the match, although Zabaks seemed to have it covered had the ball looped lower.

Once more Hadid made an impact in the 58’ minute when he ran down the right-flank and despite being marked by a number of defenders he got free and played the ball into the feet of Slaveski who fired it over.

During the following 10’ minute period, Jamie McMaster tried to take the game by the throat but all his efforts were either denied by the referee’s whistle or the Bankstown defence. In the 64’ minute Canak chased the ball done when it looked to be going for a goalkick. Canak instead played the ball across the goal and it deflected into the path of Slaveski but it bounced poorly and his shot went wide of the near post.

A minute later Ben Spruce tried to head the ball goalwards from a corner but the effort went backwards and Canak had to chase it down, which he did, but his pass back into the area was picked off by the Bankstown defence and cleared away from danger.

On 67’ minutes, Hadid was presented with a good chance on goal but his header at the near post went away from danger. The ball headed up the other end where Boardman flicked a long ball on to Elasi but he was running on an angle away from goal and thus had to turn to shoot and the ball ended up just going across the face of the goalmouth.

In the 76’ minute Burgin put in a great cross to Hadid who headed the ball on goal, only to be denied by the waiting hands of Zabaks.

A minute later McMaster played Canak towards the by-line, but Canak’s cut back was easily stopped by Joseski at the near post, before Ben Spruce played a great long ball to Canak, though once more Bankstown was there to spoil the away team’s attack.

In the 80’ minute Joseski and Zonjic clashed and the ball was left free in the area but no Bonnyrigg player was able to take advantage of this great situation.

With 5’ minutes remaining, Peter Peralta picked up two yellow cards in the space of a couple of minutes before Brad Boardman of Bonnyrigg picked up his second yellow card on 90’ minutes to also be dismissed.

In the end the two sides were tied with number of players on the park as well as the score on the scoreboard.

Brian Brown was philosophical about the result:

“We had enough chances to win the match tonight. Three teams have played us this season playing as Bankstown did tonight.

“We simply need to learn how to break teams down, even with numbers behind the ball.”

Blagoja Kuleski was proud of his side’s effort:

“I am very happy with a draw. For me Bonnyrigg is still the best team in the competition and getting a point off them is not easy.

“I am proud of the team, we created a few half chances and could have taken a lead near the end, but that is football and in the end I am not unhappy getting a draw out of this opponent.”

Manly comeback stuns Stallions

Quote:
Manly United FC left it late to come from behind against Marconi Stallions to salvage their third straight draw of their NSW Premier League campaign at Marconi Stadium on Saturday night.

After a goalless first-half, Matthew Mayora’s double against the run of play put Marconi in the driver’s seat before substitute Justin Hayward did the damage for Manly United, coming on to net a late brace to ensure the sides shared the spoils in a scrappily contested affair.

Marconi were first out of the blocks from the opening whistle, forcing Kang Ho Lee into a string of early saves, first blocking Matthew Mayora from a tight angle before spectacularly tipping over strikes from Sean O’Connell and Nahuel Arrarte within the first 5’ minutes.

Kang Ho Lee again held off early Marconi pressure, touching Keith Shelvin’s header wide after Jordan Edwards had cheaply conceded possession on the left-hand side of defence.

Robbie Cattanach came within inches of breaking the deadlock for Manly on 20’ minutes when he struck the frame of the goal with a well placed 20-yard free-kick following Arrarte’s clumsy foul on the edge of the penalty-area.

Cattanach found space in the Marconi area soon after, forcing James Chronopoulos into a brave block. The rebound fell to Joey Gibbs, who scuffed his shot into the ground, letting Marconi’s defence off the hook.

With the match swinging in Manly’s favour, Jimmy Oates broke out of defence and down the right wing, cut inside Daniel Petrovski and crossed for Seung Soo Lee, who controlled the cross well before volleying inches wide of Chronopoulos’ right-hand post.

Both sides made late attempts to break the deadlock before the interval, with Kang Ho Lee holding Matthew Mayora’s low drive before Adam Foti placed his finish wide of goal after beating Adel El Jamal inside Marconi’s 18-yard box.

Christopher Nunes gave Manly an early second-half scare when he intercepted Marc Richards’ poor pass in defence; the fleet-footed winger the skipped past Richards before drawing a fine block from Kang Ho Lee to clear his dangerous driven cross.

Despite Manly dominating possession Marconi grabbed the lead on 57’ minutes when Matthew Mayora rose to divert the ball past Kang Ho Lee with a fine header from Matthew Gordon’s corner.

Chronopoulos denied Manly a quick equaliser soon after, showing lightning reflexes to block Adam Foti’s header from Joey Gibbs’ corner.

Mayora then doubled Marconi’s advantage on 67’ minutes, rounding the goalkeeper and knocking the ball into the back of the net after Arrarte had darted through the Manly defence and picked out the unmarked attacker in the box.

Manly coach Craig Midgely reacted immediately, bringing on Justin Hayward for Sueng Soo Lee, who had put in a fine performance.

The move paid dividends immediately when Hayward rose to place a fine header past Chronopoulos from Oates’ pinpoint cross after fine lead up work on the right.

Adam Foti then played Hayward through on goal with a smart chip on 82’ minutes; the beanpole forward held off his marker to place a crisp shot into the bottom corner to level the scores.

Both sides made a late surge for a winning goal, with Mayora twice heading over either side of Chronopoulos’ block on Hayward’s shot as both strikers were denied hat-tricks while the match ended with the points shared.

Craig Midgely was content with the result after guiding his squad to a stirring comeback:

“In the end we were happy to come back from 2-0 down,” said Midgely.

“We came out in the second-half, conceded a couple of soft goals, and had to fight back.

“My boys have shown great resilience there – especially Justin (Hayward), who came on and got us back in the game,” Midgely added.

Midgely was delighted with Hayward’s impact, praising his substitute’s late efforts:

“He’s a great lad,” said Midgely.

“Great enthusiasm, his work rate, he’s quick and he’s strong.

“We’ve got Adam Foti and Catta (Cattanach) up there who are good players at this level, and Justin’s came on to really compliment them,” added Midgely.

Marconi coach Luke Casserly was similarly happy with the draw, despite seeing a two goal lead slip through his team’s fingers:

“To be honest I thought we were lucky to go up 2-0,” said Casserly.

“I think we started quite brightly, but after the 15-20 minute mark Manly really took control.

“We were lucky to go into the break at nil all, we regathered and got ourselves into the game and up to a 2-0 leads – from there we seemed to stall.”

Casserly was however disappointed with his side’s inability to hold onto a clean sheet in their first three outings:

“That’s three games we’ve had and in all games we’ve conceded goals and that’s just simply not good enough,” said Casserly.

“We can’t concede goals every week and expect to win games,” he concluded.

Sharks condemn Olympic to first loss for 2011

Quote:
Sam Awad scored the deciding goal against a well drilled Sydney Olympic at Seymour Shaw Park when latching onto a delightful through ball from Nick Tsattalios to fire a thunderous shot past the exposed Paul Henderson.

The goal cut the legs of the Sydney Olympic players as the Blues fell to their first loss of the season.

Sydney Olympic, a perfect six points from their opening two fixtures, missed a gilt-edged opportunity in the 3’ minute when Chris Triantis fired in a cross to be met powerfully by the head of Alex Smith, though directed straight into the arms of the grateful Nathan Denham.

Sutherland countered when Michael Katz crossed for an attempt by Tsattalios that was blocked and fell back to the midfielder who saw his second effort deflected for a corner as the Sharks sought to gain the ascendency and combat the neat, fast attacking play of Olympic.

Sharks midfielder Nick Stavroulakis was adjudged to have fouled Bill Tsanidis, himself involved in the wars and sporting a head swathed in bandages, to give away a free-kick right on the edge of the penalty-area. Alex Smith lined up the attempt, though he was unable to clear the wall.

Back came Sutherland at the other end and from a free-kick of their own, the ball was put straight into the arms of Henderson.

Sadly for the visitors, Robert Mileski limped off a minute before the break with a hamstring injury in a cruel twist of fate that went some way to deciding the outcome of the game, though the visiting NSW Premier League leaders went into the break all-square in a goalless first period.

Nikas received a caution almost immediately on the resumption of play and Sydney Olympic appeared to be hitting the same vein of form they displayed in the opening half when William Angel sent over a cross that was again just too high for Todd Bamber to nod home.

Nikas then slipped Awad in who drew a couple of defenders before laying it off for Matt Bailey to coolly finish off from 12-yards out to open the scoring, with Henderson again exposed at the back and unable to stop the effort after 56’ minutes.

Triantis went into the book for Sydney Olympic and received stern words from the official for dangerous play against Bakis and he was soon joined by the Sharks’ industrial midfielder Stavroulakis before referee Delovski called both captains to the centre of the field for a word about telling their respective sides to calm it down when in reality it was no more than a hard but fair encounter with the spice.

No sooner had Tsanidis been replaced by Phil Makrys for Olympic, the Sharks were 2-0 to the good and forced up the tempo further.

They pushed hard but left themselves open to the counterattack and, perhaps, should have been caught out on a couple of occasions but the flat back four stood firm and their endeavour paid off with 5’ minutes remaining. Another cross from the left, this time by David Gullo, found Smith with enough space to loop a header over Denham, who injured himself in attempting the save.

Sutherland defended deep and invited Olympic to almost constantly search for an equaliser, though the home side showed plenty of experience in keeping the visitors out, even though there were one or two scary moments along the way.

Sydney Olympic coach, Peter Tsekenis, now coaching the club he supported as a boy and served loyally for 9-years, was pragmatic in his appraisal afterwards when saying:

“I think that when we went a goal down, against the run of play to be honest, I thought the heads went down a bit and that was probably the worst part of the game for us.

“Then we went two down and you cannot afford to give a tough side like Sutherland a two-goal lead.

“We had to make some forced changes but like you said, we didn’t take our chances tonight and the Sharks are no slouch’s and stick in there and are very hard to peg back when they get in front, but our final ball in wasn’t great and we had at least four clear cut chances to go in front and didn’t take them but that’s football and you have to expect that sometimes.

“I’m not going to make excuses because we didn’t take our chances although we had some great passages of play, but the disappointing thing is we let our heads drop when we conceded and allowed another to go in.”

Robbie Stanton was relieved at the final whistle and stated afterwards:

“Both teams looked a little flat in the first-half I thought, and maybe we all just came to the game thinking we’re one and two on the table so the result will just come but it’s never like that in this fixture.

“It’s obviously only early in the season but both sides looked cautious and I expected them to press us harder which surprised me when they didn’t in the opening part of the first-half but when they did I had to change a few things after the break.

“It was a tough, tough win for us and it was a hard but fair match and never what you would call dirty at any stage.

“It was a good battle that, thankfully we won on the night and we can take stock of that and hopefully build further from here.”

The previously undefeated Sutherland Sharks in the Grade-20 division finished with a 2-1 loss against Sydney Olympic.

NSW Premier League Round 3 Review

Sydney United moved into equal first-place on the NSW Premier League ladder with an astounding 6-1 defeat of a ten-man Rockdale City Suns on Sunday afternoon.

Played in some very difficult conditions following a huge downpour prior, and during, the match, the Reds overcame some early Suns dominance of possession to record 2011’s biggest win of the season, thus far.

Ben Vidaic opened the scoring on 14’ minutes, before Elsid Barkhousir was on hand to volley home for 2-0; 1’ minute after the Suns were denied a penalty claim.

Man of the Match Steve Hayes setup Barkhousir for his second 1’ minute later before Sash Tirovski reduced the deficit prior to the break.

Hayes added his name to the score sheet with a fabulous strike into the top left-hand corner from 20-yards. The Suns afternoon got worse as Joshua Lawson was shown a straight red card in the 62’ minute. Barkhousir then completed his hat-trick in the 88’ minute before Luka Glavas chimed in with a goal of his own to round out the 6-1 result.

At Seymour Shaw, Sydney Olympic’s 100% record came to an end with the side falling 2-1 against Sutherland Sharks in an entertaining 90’ minutes of football.

The Sharks, who consequently move into equal first-place on the League ladder with this win, skipped to a two-goal lead following strikes by Sam Awad and Matt Bailey after the break, though Alex Smith’s fifth goal of the campaign 5’ minutes from the end made the final stages very nerve wracking for the home side.

Despite Sydney Olympic’s best efforts in getting men forward, the Sharks’ defence, led marvelously by captain George Souris, administered proceedings to record a tremendous victory for Sutherland.

The Sharks again proved that Seymour Shaw will certainly be a difficult venue for opponents to visit and take points, meanwhile Sydney Olympic will be sweating on the fitness of playmaker Robbie Mileski who was forced to leave the field moments prior to half-time with a hamstring injury.

Blacktown City FC dominated proceedings against Parramatta FC on Sunday, though could only take one-point from Melita Stadium following a frustrating afternoon in front of goal.

Blacktown City took the lead in the 71’ minute courtesy of Mitchell Duke’s well taken diagonal effort across Anthony Costa and inside the Parramatta FC goalkeeper’s right-hand post. Despite creating a plethora of goalscoring chances – and hitting the frame of the goal three times during the 90’ minutes – the visitors failed to kill off the match as Kataiba Elrich won his side a penalty 12’ minutes from the end. Experienced campaigner Chris Camilleri stepped up for the spot-kick and comfortably slotted home to secure his side a point in some very difficult, wet, conditions at Melita Stadium.

Defending Premiers Bonnyrigg White Eagles remain winless after three rounds following their third consecutive draw of the season on Saturday evening against Bankstown City.

In a fierce, fast-paced encounter where both defensive lines stood strong and left very little space for their adversaries, neither side was capable of carving out any real clear cut opportunities.

Shannon Burgin created the first real goalscoring attempt 10’ minutes into the second-half, though his long-range effort was well dealt with by Phil Zabaks in the White Eagles goal. Nathan Elasi replied for Bonnyrigg after combining with Brad Boardman, though the speedy striker forced his effort across the face of goal.

In the closing stages of the match, both teams were reduced to 10-men as Peter Peralta first, for Bankstown City, picked up his second yellow card in the 85’ minute, before Brad Boardman too was shown a second yellow card in the 90’ minute, ruling the striker out of Bonnyrigg’s clash against Sydney United next weekend.

At Marconi Stadium, the Stallions squandered a two-goal lead and had to settle for a point against a strong finishing Manly United FC. Manly United has made a real habit of finishing matches strongly, and overturning deficits in the closing stages of matches, with the side recording three consecutive 2-2 draws to-date. New Stallions’ signing Matthew Mayora grabbed his first goals for the season with an impressive brace after the break, though Craig Midgley’s introduction of Justin Hayward paid immediate dividends after the 70’ minute mark. Hayward headed Manly United back into the match in the 77’ minute, before drawing his side level 5’ minutes later with a firm drive past Stallions’ shot-stopper James Chronopoulos for a share of the spoils.

South Coast Wolves secured a very impressive 3-2 victory away from home against A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers to further demonstrate the side’s ambitions to challenge for finals football this season.

The visiting Wolves mastered the wet conditions quickest, running to a 2-0 lead courtesy of Sasho Petrovski and Chris Nathaniel before the break.

Despite a much better showing by the Tigers in the second-half, the Leichhardt side had to wait until the 85’ minute to breach the Wolves goal. The Wolves’ Nick Littler fouled Sam Messam inside the penalty-area, and Chris James stepped up to convert the penalty. Despite the momentum purely in favour of the home side, South Coast Wolves re-instated their two goal lead via Chris Littler’s long-range rifle.

Tigers’ substitute Anthony Hartshorn came off the bench to head home for the Tigers in injury-time, though the home side could not find an equaliser to avoid defeat.

That sucks.Out of a crowd of about 3,000 there was a group of 30 people fighting against each other (mind you it was people throwing plastic bottles at each other) and now every other fan has to miss out on the best derbey in the NSW Premier League.
For fans of either Bonnyrigg White Eagles or Sydney United do yous know if there is any talk to allow fans back into the stadium in thenear future or is this the way it will be no matter what?

With the bad wrap football gets in the Australian media with regards to crowd trouble, would you want to risk it? Football NSW is right to hold this match behind closed doors.

What im trying to say is there has to be a better solution. If 1000-3000 fans for either club are missing out because of a group of 20-30 people then clearly that is not fair.
At the end of the day though my question was if Football NSW are working on a future solution for games between both clubs or have they closed the idea of opening that game to fans for good?
No matter what we do in this country football will never be respected by the media has a love affair with the NRL and AFL so instead of worrying about what they will write if there is a minor scuffle i would personally take the risk and try and manage the next game in a better way then simply giving up.
What it all comes down to in the end is the truth and when you look at facts fooball has less crowd trouble then the NRL,and as for AFL i cant comment as i never watch or read about it.

TBH I think FNSW just work in the idea on a year to year and game to game basis.

You also need to take into consideration whether or not the Police are willing to provide supervision to such a potentially hostile situation. You have to remember, fans rioted even when the games took place at a neutral venue (Parramatta Stadium). IMO I would like to see this match up open to the general public, but it isn't worth the risk, and I don't see what other ways there are of allowing more people to watch the game. Maybe letting the members of the home team only to watch the game, but what would stop the supporters of the rival club getting membership to the other club just to get in and watch the game? Might sound outrageous but it is possible.

I think the idea of a neutral venue was one of the stupidest ideas as it was easy for fans of both teams to go to that one venue and cause trouble.
Its much better off letting each club play at thier own ground as im sure many Croatians wouldnt want to go to the Serbian club and vise versa so the amount of people going to cause trouble would be alot less then in the case of a neutal venue.
I think this is a very minor proble when compared to other derbies around the world and we are taking the easiest way out which at the same time kills the sport.
I'd much rather create the great atmosphere that game would and if worse comes to worse make the headlines for a brawl instead of make no headline at all.

I went to both games

They even played the second game at Midday at 12 pm Saturday

There wasnt 30 people fighting amougst Themselves
here was a few hundred attacking 50 cros on the bus
Even when they didnt open the gates straight away
when the game finished

There would of been fatalities if police arrived 30 seconds
afther the serbs arrived at the bus with cros in there

As for the first incident 30 serbs where inside and in a space of a
few minutes there where a few hundred cros attacking the serbs

There has never been a fatality in a game of football
in Australia and if another games happens there is a big possibility of it happening

Theres a difference with tennagers 30 people trying to be a nuisance Robstar
and a few hundred trying to kill each other

16 TO 25 CAUSING TROUBLE IS EASIER TO CONTROL WHEN THERE 30 PEOPLE TRYING TO CAUSE A FIGHT

Trying to control a few hundred cros ouot of a crowd of 3000 is way impossible

The second game there would of been 1500
400 / 1500 where there for trouble

Fact is this game should never played for the general public
as its to much of a risk

Robstazz unless you been to the last 2 games dont talk shit

I'll be honest i wasnt at the game in Parramatta and clearly stated that was a stupid idea. For the first game at Sydney United's ground i was there so im not talking shit.
About 30 Serbs kicked the fence where theres no seating and came through there and then both sets of fans were throwing shit at each other.
No life was at risk i was there and my life wasnt at risk.Everyone has thier own view and mine is that they should try and find a solution.
Lets face it for the first game had there been cops standing or security where the Serbs came in then it wouldnt have happened.
I just believe that they should try things before giving up after one attempt.I dont count the second as i have said for varying reasons why that was clearly the dumbest idea that should never have went ahead.
