Parramatta FC ready squad ahead of NSW Premier League kickoff

PARRAMATTA FC coach Brian Dene won’t name a target for his side to achieve on the ladder ahead of its challenging return to the NSW Premier League next weekend.

The promoted club, under new ownership by the Granville District Soccer Football Association, will kick off its season against premiers Bonnyrigg at Melita Stadium on Sunday week.

Captain will again be midfielder Ben Delicata, but the Super League premiers have lost a few senior players.

Dene said that wasn’t due to ability, either.

``I think they all could have played, but we have budget restrictions through Granville,’’ he said.

``It’s money. We don’t have the funds to splash out what people are asking.

``But you still need good quality players, and I think we have that.’‘

While the Granville association is keen to tout its new Premier League club, it has not provided Dene with a far bigger budget.

``I think it will take time as the club moves on,’’ Dene said of the finances.

``It’s obviously a big commitment by the association, but you don’t want to send the association bankrupt.

``This is a good opportunity for players to play at the highest level.’‘

New Eagles for 2011 include last year’s Super League goalkeeper of the year, Tom Romic.

Dene was excited to have the former Macarthur Rams ‘keeper in the side.

``I believe there is interest from one A-League club,’’ Dene said.

``I know they’re going to come and look at him.’‘

Up front, Parramatta has added striker Almir Dizdaric.

He played for Bankstown last year and will provide options for the Eagles.

``We’ll use him as a target man,’’ Dene said. ``He brings other people into play and scores goals.’‘

Other recruits include defenders Peter Crevani from St George, and Nick McInerney from South Coast Wolves.

i just dont understand why granville would buy the club and then not give them much money at all. pretty stupid if u ask me

yeah... i am of the same opinion......bloody stupid to think that you would get into top flight football and treat it with a half arsed attitude......

apparently the budget is a joke, $100k......lol

this smells just like when penrith panthers were forced to merge with Nepean association......disaster....look where nepean are now????? and the sad part is penrith panthers were the better club and now they dont exist.....FOOTBALL NSW fail again......

like it or not, the parramatta model is being touted as the preferred model so far as FFA is concerned. im sure they'd like to see all premier league clubs comprising association based setups providing apathway, region by region, from youth reps into a senior side. the inevitable question arises as to whether these associations can finance and sustain such sides. its a big commitment by the granville association. hope funding the premier league outfit doesnt result of finances being taken away from all of their junior member clubs.
