How on earth hasn't Goran Zoric won an A-League contract
Its quiet funny when u look at the game on Friday night that while Zoric stared for White Eagles, Jason Hoffman did nothing all night & he's an that A-League contract.

What do you think about the FourFourTwo article South Melbourne Claim Derby?
VPL Wrap: Dandenong Thunder remain unbeaten while South Melbourne claimed a derby win in round six of the Alanic Victorian Premier League that saw Adrian Caceres on the score sheet.

Have your say.

Great win from South Melbourne, despite Ljubo bitching and whining at everyone he could, including his own players and fans.

Vasilevski scored a screamer from the dead ball.

Because the time he spent with South was littered with banging in goals against crap teams but not being able to put them away against the better ones. He did have trials with the Victory youth team a few years back, and last year he was off the local radar entirely after he sent half the year in Thailand with Police United, where he failed to make an appearance in the league. So far it looks like he's managed to finally string a few good games together, showing us what he can do - now for the other 16 games.

Well said.

Watched him live v St Albans last week and he was kept relatively quiet by Stefan Piorkowski.

But he scored an early goal and provided the late equaliser. If he can make those sorts of games his 'quieter' ones then you never know.

A few South fans were getting lippy with him, too. Seems like not everyone is too happy with Herr Gaumenspalte.

Nothing wrong with the way Ljubo has been speaking. It just shows his passion for football. he is the type of player we needed to help our defence which was shocking until he came in. His experience will be great for the defenders. I have enjoyed watching him the two games his played. Coaching and marshalling the defence. Its been great. As for the crowd it was over 1000 maybe about 1200.

Agree on Ljubo. With the exception of a couple of minutes in the first half when he got a bit cocky and was caught out twice, he's been outstanding. Hope it rubs off on Topa and O'Dor.

On the crowd, probably worth noting to those who fear ethnic violence, etc. Absolutely no segregation, very few stewards, everyone mingling and having a good chat. Proof positive that if you treat people like people - they behave like people. If you cage them up like animals...

1k-1.2K????? Better than GCU.

One day I'd like to see SM in the A-league. Always thought that they've got what it takes to make it.

Krncevic is a beast up front, loving his work.

some good crowds yesterday, 1200 odd at the south/knights game, 700 odd at the heid/oakleigh match which kicked off just after.

Ya still haven't answered the question why is Krncevic playng at a small premier league club like Hellas and not for an A-League powerhouse like MVFC or others?

I beleive Krncevic feels that South are a bigger club than most A league franchises and hence doesnt feel the need to move on.

At risk of getting in a pointless argument about the respective standards of what is essentially an amateur based Victorian premier league and the full time professional A-League, dosent beg debating. South Melbourne was once a big and powerful club when immigration was at its peak, but regardless have never had more than 2000 paying members (quantifiable) I very much doubt Krncevic feels that South are a bigger club than most A league franchises because it is simply untrue in terms of revenue and crowd levels-end of argument!!

Answer:

Ernie Merrick

Extended answer:

There were a lot of players that should have been picked up for the A-League over the last six years. Merrick clearly had an early bias towards players who had gone through the VIS when he was in charge.

In season One he should have signed Bill Damianos and Micheal Curcija two no-brainers. But like Jesse they had not gone through the VIS.

Another factor would be O'Neills decision to have one team in Melbourne instead of the NSL reports suggested two teams.

I'm starting to beleive the old saying "Timing is everything".

Jesse feels that standard of the hal is beneath him, he finds the vpl a much tougher challenge, he also said he would rather play at small boutique venues as opposed to rugby grounds.

you do realise in the last season of the nsl, which apparently was a dead league, south still managed around a 6500 average and got 10K+ vs knights, perth, adelaide, paramatta etc

make no mistake about it being if south went straight into the a-league when the nsl was disbanded there would have been around 8-10K average crowd.. sadly with the ffa trying to bury anything not a-league and most fans here being idiots its hard to get crowds to these games anymore, its not glamorous enough..

but a team like south will keep plugging along, getting a good stadium deal, having great tv, internet, radio shows etc and all the while doing it on their own with no help from anyone. Hopefully so called football fans can respect that and actually try support clubs that are doing everything in the power to move forward and be positive

I would hope not.

If he did actually say that, he deserves to stay semi-pro until he finds a real career.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy and attend the VPL regularly, but the standard is no-where near the A-League. It's extremely arrogant for Jesse to claim anything otherwise.

That was a moronic comment to make about Jesse and I doubt that he would say what you claim he says suggesting once again another Hellas crony beat up methinks. May I remind you also that I predicted well over a year ago when he played for Richmond that he would eventually find himself on the radar for A-League clubs which reflects badly on your assessment of him as a player that you could not see he is way above the class of the mainly amateur VPL of which Hellas is part.

I was actually trolling, Krncevic, Topalovic and Vasilevski are currently on the A league radar, Ange appears to be keen on Jesse...not sure if they are above vpl level though..depends on which club they join and how they fit in to be honest.

Hellas is basically an A league caliber team playing part time, Jesse could make more money playing for South and working at the south melbourne market than going to say GC and getting some thin 1 year deal for less for a club that is likely to fold in 12 months.

Hellas is not an equivalent of a part time A-league club its personell are generally with a few exceptions well behind the standard required to play A-League. There is a good chance Krncevic is still paid as an amateur at Hellas(less than 5000 dollars annually)and yes he would be crazy to play for the basic wage in the A-League if he can do something more exciting like making Souvlakis at the South Melbourne market and playing low standard part time football. Not!!

5,000? are you trolling here or what?

would be close to $1,000 a game as the clubs star off season recruit...the lower tier average players at South would be on 500-600..not bad for kicking a ball around twice a week at training and play a game on the weekend.

Why do you think Trent Rixon isnt playing A league? he was insulted by some of the offers he received...to get these players up to the next level you need to make it worth their while financially.

Its an A league squad basically playing for fun and earning easy coin away from their real world jobs.
