All you football playing experts! I really need your help!!
I have a trial for the first team tommorrow for school, and I'm going to be up against tough competition as there's 2 spots to fill, and maybe 10-15 people trying to get in.
I haven't had a proper practise or a trial in about four years, and I've only played a handful of games in that time so I'm pretty rusty. Also, I've been having lots of trouble with my feet recently (I just got orthotics) so I'm not very fit at the moment.
I play anywhere in the midfield by the way.

What can I do to definitely impress the coaches?! Please help me, any related advice would be really great.

Yes, I'm probably a bit late with this advice.

But I was going to suggest you fly to tassie for a two hour session with decentic.

By the time you would have got back you would have been fielding offers from barthelona.

Keep this in mind for next year.

I've found that coaches are usually impressed by somebody's work rate as well as selflessness. Sometimes not trying to be flashy is the best way to get noticed.

Work rate off the ball rarely gets noticed.

If you've 30 minutes to impress some peanut selector I'd suggest stepovers, lot's of 'em.

If it is a selector that really doesn't know much about the game then I suppose so .

No.

Most, if not all watchers of the game, follow the ball. Including selectors. They, like youself, mostly only want to see what the player can do with the ball.

If you've got limited time to impress a selector you've got to something memorable with the ball. You will never get selected on your ability as a second defender.

It depends on the training of the selectors.

If one has done KNVB training, off the ball work is paramount in analysing players/match analyses in their four main moments of football.

Odd, I've never seen any references to off the ball work rate in your stats.

You may not have seen it listed in stats. I don't have the technology to record off the ball stats.

Nevertheless, when I wrote on SOF, subsequent match analyses noted the off the ball work by some players. It also noted the lack of off the ball work by some players too.

Interesting that for someone so critical of my match stats, reports and analyses, you've studied them so assiduously!!!!

"off the ball work is paramount in analysing players/match analyses"

Your words, not mine.

And yet no effort to record in your stats.

I'd be seeking a refund on that $1500 KNVB course, decentric.

Misplaced pedantry on your part.

I still made 'value judgements' of players' performances in relation ot their off the ball work and the ramifications for the team in match analyses.

Moreover, intercepts and turnovers can indicate off the ball work, particularly where one player's actions results in a turnover for an appreciative teammate.

Matt McKay's, Holman's, Garcia's and Culina's off the ball work causes frequent turnovers in possession for the Socceroos. These players are probably the hardest working of off the ball players for the Socceroos. Recorded stats over time substabtiate my assertions.

Even though he is one of my favourite players, Nick Carle is weaker in this facet of the game than most of our other midfielders.

lol

Based on your post '05 experiences of watching live, top level sockah in Tasmania, no doubt.

Hey, decentric, you've recently managed a few posts without using the words;

epoch
corollary
profligacy
excoriate
milieu
ameliorate

You OK, mate?

I've noticed you adopting many words in your posts that I've used over time too.

Your spelling, vocabulary and grammar has improved as well.

A trip down to the Football For Everyone school and you would learn a lot more words from other erudite Tasmanians who frequent the same football milieu I do. That is, given your past assertion, that Tasmanian and being erudite, was a contradiction in terms.

Hopefully you'll even be going to Europe to do a KNVB, Clarefontaine or Coverciano course, since you are so keen to copy.

Unfortunately, the cynicicsm is still there. A trip to rural India might fix that.
