Don't see the issue with having the A2, being an expanded youth league, give the youth a chance to play more games, give the stronger state league clubs a chance to step up and provide a proving ground for any new club to start in. HAL teams must comply with the youth rules as they are now, everyone else can have a mix. Give the youth a chance to mix it with some older and more experienced players every now and then. Would also allow for the HAL to recruit from the A2 league.

Get maybe 1 game on early before the HAL starts on fox sports, make it part of match day Saturday's coverage, to extend live sports coverage for the day. Maybe have say a requirement for the youth team to play before the seniors for the Saturday game, and fox can just transmit that instead of having to go out to any grounds and add costs. Give SBS the rights to go and cover any games not involving HAL teams, to help keep foxsports happy.

No promotion or relegation, promotion would be by criteria & invitation. Give the lower clubs something to work to, whilst the HAL still controls its own destiny.

A2,

Thanks that someone has the IQ to realise why it would not, under any circumstances, be called the B-League. BTW, i think you'll have Buckley's (no, not that Buckley) chance of a smell of interest in the telecasting of a second division football comp.

You don't think that fox would cover it if the game was held at a normal A-league home ground say Jets youth vs. south coast, before a jets home game, with an early kick off at say 11 before an arvo game and match day Saturday started. no additional costs as they will already be setup for the HAL game. I doubt they would get any significant ratings, but I'd assume it might pull in some viewers to match day Saturday.

The only way there will be a 2nd tier competition in Australia is if the clubs themselves set it up - and even then, it will only happen if the FFA ALLOW them to do it.

For me, it's the ideal scenario - all the responsibility and finances would be on the clubs themselves, and Australia would pick up a better development pool for the non-A-League talent.

However, the Mirabella Cup/FFA Cup debacle leads one to believe that the FFA would allow it to happen for fear of us poor dumb football fans getting confused about which league is which, and due to the fear of sponsorship going to the newer, lesser competition than the new one.

How weak is the A league getting wen they cant have there own junions

Its called the National Youth League? Its early days, let it continue.

The NYL is NOT a juniors set-up. It's a gathering of the best of the junior systems around Australia. The (majority of) A-League franchises do little to develop young players - that's left to the clubs that the FFA want little to do with.
