Interesting to report training methods for US College soccer.
1 pm - 30 minutes exercise bike, runnng machine.
1.30-3.00pm - Weightlifting, big weights, not light sets of 20.
3.00-5.00pm - Training on the pitch.
5.00-8.00pm -Twice weekly compulsory to coach junior teams.
This happens five days per week.
Add a practice match on Saturday.
Time taken for soccer 28 hours per week in US college. Coach K can't work out why his team is bored/stale after 10 months!!!
Full time study is also done at a college.
Also kick and rush, or direct, long ball football played in US, heavily influenced by gridiron training.
I contacted KNVB.
I contacted a state NTC coach.
I contacted an Asian international team senior coach, who has coached with Bobby Robson and Peter Taylor.
All these elite prorgammes train players for 90 minutes per day. Minimal weight work. Awareness of Raymond Verheijen's work in Periodisation.
EPL do 90 minute sessions twice daily in pre-season.
Total time for professional type player other than USA, about 10 hours per week!!!!!
KNVB has a philosophy that players learn football by playing football. Hence, college players waste 18 hours per weekl!!!! This also creates greater likelihood for injury.
KNVB, Asian inter coach, state NTC coach all condemn US college coaching practices as archaic. All have had contact with them and seen US college programmes in action.
