Moree High School will be sending a team of girls to represent Northern New South Wales Football at the upcoming Indigenous Football Festival in Alice Springs In July.
These young footballers were part of Football Federation Australia’s "No School No Play" program which is about encouraging and educating indigenous students on the importance of attending school.
The Moree team travelling to Alice Springs for the Indigenous Football Festival consists of 14 girls from years 7, 8 and 9. The girls have been training twice a week for the past 6 weeks in preparation for the festival.
"None of the girls have played football beyond the school level, so we have been working on their basic skills at training and getting them used to playing in set positions.” said Sandra Duley, Relieving Head Teacher of Mathematics at Moree Secondary College.
“The girls are very excited to travel such a vast distance for the festival and most of them have never been on a plane before so this is another exciting facet to the trip.’’
The girls will travel to Alice Springs via Sydney with an overnight stop on the way there and also on the way home.
We wish them the best of luck in the festival.
