FFV zero tolerance policy sees anti-social behaviour greatly reduced

Football Federation Victoria’s (FFV) zero tolerance approach is notably reducing anti-social behaviour across Victorian football with latest statistics showing a drop in the number of players suspended, fines given and matters being referred by the Federation to the independent Tribunal/Appeals Board.

Compared to this time last year, there has been a 30 percent drop in yellow cards, a 1.6 percent drop in player suspensions (including red cards) and only 53 misconduct fines compared with 102 misconduct fines last year.

FFV zero tolerance programs were implemented in 2009 but in 2010 became more well-known, accepted and are now being self-enforced by clubs and club associates.

These latest statistics highlight that with the support of the players and clubs, FFV’s zero tolerance approach is starting to be fully understood and accepted by all participants.

FFV CEO, Mark Rendell, said FFV will continue to work hard to discourage anti-social behaviour on and off the pitch and the latest statistics prove that the zero tolerance approach is working.

“These figures show that our football culture is improving, players and club officials realise the zero tolerance approach is for the benefit of the game and everyone who supports a safe and family friendly environment,” Mr Rendell said.

The other area that has had an impact on these figures is the continuing education of referees in strategies to ensure that the game is played in a fair, safe and enjoyable manner, and that ‘on and off field behaviour’ is controlled.

Last year they were handing out yellow cards for virtually nothing. Fine, that's 'zero tolerance'.

Problem is - they aren't booking players for similar challenges this year. You can get away with a lot more.

So - is the reduced number of bookings/suspensions a result of better behavior this season, or more lenient referees?

Are efforts being made to improve the standards of State League officiating at matches?

No where in this vast football universe do clubs get points deducted and fined like they do in the VPL. The FFV are completely out of control supposedly in the name of 'zero tolerance'.
Totally unrealistic and totally unfair vindictive rats. They are a law onto themselves, have no feel for the game and no idea how tough it is to run a club on the smell of an oily rag. Anyone involved or that follows the local scene will back this up 100%.
They can fuck off and go to hell. Everyone has had a gutfull on how they go about things.

This so much.

Volunteers are clubs are having to bust their arses to fundraise to help pay for fines imposed by the FFV to fill their own coffers. Recently we had a club fined $1000 for the coach abusing an experienced referee who wouldn't allow any subs in the final 5 minutes of a senior match. The club appealed and the ref was found to be in the wrong, the fine reduced to $250 but they had to pay $500 to appeal.....ahhh the sweet smell of democracy of Victorian Football.

Here's an easy way of decreasing cards etc: fine clubs and make players pay half. $100 for yellows, $300 for reds. Easy.
Every club, bottom to top, have to pay up.

That's already happening in the juniors, $300 + for a red and a 3 game + ban. I know their trying to stamp it out at a young age but it's really to harsh.

You Mexicans are a strange lot. Is there an incentive for junior teams to be the fairest (ie: least bookings) in their league/region?

What clubs or leagues have fines of $300 and 3 match bans for red cards?

What A brilliant stratergy by the FFV fine all the Clubs into oblivion and no more problems.:d

Quote:
Lyndale pays heavy price
ANOTHER club staring down the fines barrel is relegated Provisional One South-East outfit Lyndale United, slugged $6500 recently for the actions of an under-14 player and a coach.
“We’ve put in an application for a payment extension after being briefed by FFV,” said club president Matt Thurbon.
“The lady I spoke to at FFV was really helpful and explained the situation to me. I think if we demonstrate that we are holding functions to raise the money then I don’t think that there will be a problem,” he added.
But there is an obvious problem with any no tolerance policy. It often means that there can be no mitigating circumstances.
For example, the circumstances that could surround an under-14 Afghan boy with no father in his family who may be an unwitting and ongoing victim of difficulties in assimilating into this society.
How anyone in their right mind could place the onus on an amateur football club to deal with these issues beggars belief. All the local club does is give such a person the opportunity to participate in our sport and surely that in itself is a step forward in that person’s integration into our society.
But that’s what our policy does. It demands that a club such as Lyndale United be fully responsible for the actions of any of its registered participants irrespective of the individual life circumstances of these participants.
As things stand, teenager Kashefi Rashim can start participating in our sport again on 31 December 2021.
Maybe Lyndale will have just about paid off its FFV debt by then.

The once mighty Preston Makedonia is on its knees and for president Pece Siljanovski it is an unwelcome and hurtful sight.

And early this month the FFV tribunal fined Preston $15,000 for matters arising out of an under-15 away game against Yarra Jets.
On appeal last week that figure was lowered to $14,500 albeit that a central figure in this affair is an as yet unidentified man wearing a blue top, a man that FFV has decided was a Lions supporter.
Has no-one told FFV that Macedonians wearing blue tops at soccer matches are a rare breed indeed?
At least there is a flicker of light at the end of Preston’s long dark tunnel as the club may be able to negotiate a repayment schedule with the federation.
“If Preston comes to us and works with us to establish their need to arrange a payment extension and if they can show us that they want to deal with a culture of inappropriate behaviour then things can be put in place to help the club pay its fine,” said FFV CEO Mark Rendell.
“But we don’t simply give clubs payment extensions for extension’s sake.
“Clubs have to demonstrate a willingness to change and perhaps the best recent example of that is St Albans.
“They have been able to demonstrate to us their willingness to change. St Albans put a new committee in place, new processes, a lot of training and an education process and we put in place a scheme of repayment and they have been a model club ever since.”
And I bet many of you thought you’d never see the words “St Albans” and “model club” mentioned in the same breath.
