Saw ECU go down 2-0 to UWA-Nedlands in another upset tonight, UWA very impressive - very tight for a Div 2 team. They'll be winning that group.


ECU were very poor and should have started their youngsters rather than bringing them on towards the end - far too many fat and slow players for the Joondalup side.

Melville beat Gosnells 3-2 the other night. Good win for the team.

Massive bump. Cup final Day today. Floreat got a win over Balcatta in the 18's, good to hear as I've played with three of them previously. Cockburn beat Perth 2-1 in the Reserves final, nice to see a team South of the river win, although was hoping Perth would win as I've played with two of the guys who were playing for Perth. And Sorrento won a tough one against Balcatta 4-3 in extra time. Sounded like an excellent game, wish i'd gone.

Night Series started last weekend. Saw my club Melville go down 3-1 to Gosnells. Thought the result flattered them a bit. You could definitely see they were the more talented side, yet we kept the ball off them for long periods and never really seemed outclassed. The 3rd goal came as we were pushing for an equaliser as well. Some good signs for the club, especially when we had 4 players under 20 and still missing a fair few 1st team players.

On a a personal note, I was named on the bench for the game, but fucked my groin up in the warm-up :(

Can we change this thread to NPL - Western Australian Conference, should prob do the same to the Victoria sticky too.

National incentive for WA clubs

The Cool Ridge Cup quarter-finals take centre stage on Saturday, with eight National Premier Leagues WA clubs battling it out for a place in the last four.

From there the two finalists, along with Perth Glory’s A-League team, will represent WA in the inaugural FFA Cup competition, taking on clubs from around the nation.

Last season’s Cool Ridge Cup winners Bayswater City face a tricky tie away at Intiga Stadium to take on Inglewood United.

City defender James Isaia is expecting a tough game against an inspired Inglewood side which has found form in the NPL WA recently.

“Inglewood are on the rise after a poor start to the season, and they have pace out wide that we will need to be aware of,” he said.

“Our recent league game against them was closely fought game, and we needed a stoppage time winner to take the points, so we know we will have to be at our best to move through to the semi-finals.”

Isaia, who has played for Armadale, Floreat Athena, Perth and Bayswater, has been part of a number of Cup finals in his career.

“Definitely the Cup win for Floreat in 2009 was memorable, and ironically it was against Inglewood United,” Isaia said.

“We played well on the day and it was a great day for the club and their first Cup success for 12 years.”

Floreat are still in this season’s competition and they travel to Macedonia Park for a meeting with traditional rivals Stirling Lions.

Athena defender Cameron Yorke knows how important the tie will be.

“It’s a massive game for both clubs, it’s one with a great deal of history and one we’re all looking forward to,” Yorke said.

“With the opportunity to make the FFA Cup this year, there is a little bit more incentive to make sure we progress, and I’m sure Stirling players are feeling the same.”

ECU Joondalup will be looking to end a poor run of form, when they entertain Balcatta at ECU Joondalup Football Stadium.

The home side are on a four-game losing streak and coach Dale McCulloch is hoping his side can turn that around this weekend.

“We have had a disappointing run of form in the league, but we have also lost a number of players due to other commitments and injuries, which hasn’t helped us,” he said.

“That’s no excuse I know, but we now have a full squad to choose from this weekend and we will be looking to progress into the semi-finals of the Cup and turn our season around.”

Subiaco has home ground advantage when they host Cockburn City at the WA Athletics Stadium on Saturday night.

The home side are yet to win in the league this season but are improving each week, while Cockburn has impressed recently and dumped Perth out of the Cup in the last round.

Just a question for the West Australians here. Is the Sunday League considered to be a higher level than the Metro League? Or the other way round? A Metro League Premier Team would be about the equivalent of what division in the Sunday League?

Well on a side note last weekend my team, Bunbury Dynamos from the South West Soccer comp, won the Women's Perth Metro Cup. They beat the undefeated Metro Division One team, Fremantle, in the final 2-0. They had to play all games away in Perth, winning all 5 games (scoring 35 goals and conceding only 2 goals).

In the local SW comp they have won all 19 games this season and have a goal difference of 152 (161 for and 9 against). They put us men to shame (we haven't won the SW premier league in over 20 years, the ladies only lost their first league game in about 4 seasons last year).
