TBPH I think Melbourne is better than Sydney. Melbourne actually has something that resembles a film industry. And within the next 10-15 years it will equal Sydney in terms of international business.

Sydney has some iconic landmarks: so what? They mean fuck all to those of us who live here. I drive over the Harbour Bridge at most 2-3 times a year and when I do, I'm not thinking "what a great contraption this is: no other city in Australia can boast this", im thinking "fuck's sake, fuck off the train line and add two more lanes: fucking government". My point being the greatness of a city doesn't lie in how attractive it is to outsiders, it's how fluent it is at functioning to those within it. And I think Melbourne kicks Sydney's arse on that.

EDIT: Oh, and Melbourne's got Hughesy.

Never said it was beautiful just said it was internationally recognised:lol:

Are we gonna keep going round in circles. Honestly it's a waste of time since we've gone so far from the original topic.

This is the llounge. There's no topic, so it doesn't matter.

You know what else is internationally regognised? So is Jocelyn Wildenstein, but that's nothing to be proud of.

I just don't see the point in having a debate that's not going to end anytime soon and one in which there is no point and one we are never going to agree on.

You're from Melbourne I'm from Sydney we both think our cities are better than on another always have always will. It's just the way it is. Nothing is going to change that and that's why I don't see the point in this debate anymore:lol:

As far as I'm concerned, the Sydney v Melboure thing is a shit fight.

Newcastle is easily the best city in Australia and the world, the following proves my point:

*Best beaches - Nobbys, Newcastle, Bar, Dixon Park, Merewether and Stockton

*Best nightlife in the city - Fannys, King St, Great Northern, Brewery, Cambridge

*Not over populated like Sydney and Melbourne

*People on the streets actually say hello instead of ignoring you

*Our people actually stick together through tough times eg floods, earthquake

*10 beautiful days every year, the rest are perfect

*One of the biggest Unis in the world

*Size of the city, but community of a town

*Two great entertainment venues - Civic Theatre and Newcastle Entertainment Centre

*Two great sports teams - the Knights and the Jets

*Decent airport

The only thing that has stopped us from becoming even better is the pathetic NSW government who have f##ked up the transport network (and want to do it some more by cutting the train line) and have no idea how to build the world class stadium that we deserve (even though they've already done it a couple times in Sydney).

Anyway, if anyone here takes offence to what I've just said, I honestly couldn't care less, we're full anyway

IMO:

Coming from here, and not visiting either city a lot...When I do go to Sydney and actually visit right in the city, its awesome...being on Darling Harbour is crazy when you're not used to it...

Melbourne I went to a few years back and apart from seeing MCG, Telstra Dome etc...the only real good thing was this big Nike shop. Maybe if I was 18 itd been better...we stayed like 300m from Crown Casino.

Better night scene and a superior music industry too. Sing Sing and Crystal Mastering are world renowned studios.

But because most Sydneysiders will say Sydney is better and most Melbournians think Melbourne is better we have to have an outsiders opinion and not our own biased one.

No that's Underbelly 2 you spastic. The first one was actually quite good. I watched the first episode of the second one and by the end of it I was so over tits and arse that Matthew Newton's naked body seemed more stimulating.

EDIT: Simon Westaway is a fucking great actor. (played Mick Gatto)

1. Because nobody cares about Newcastle.
2. The satire was clear as day to those of us who have at least driven past Newcastle.

Rush, Thank God You're Here and that cop thing with Shane Bourne in it.

In terms of music, every rock album in the last five years to go into the charts has been mastered at Crystal Mastering, and there's one of the best dance scenes in the world in melbourne. Armin Van Buuren and Tiesto don't own private studios in Sydney, they own them in melbourne.

Oh yeah, and we currently hold every sporting trophy in the country.

A couple of nights ago on Letterman they did top ten signs youre watching a bad ghost movie and i think one of these signs could be developed into a good movie. The sign was "Ghost does all their haunting via twitter". I think i mightve found myself a project to work on over summer.

Wagga Wagga:

- Churns out sports stars like there's no tomorrow and has been for decades.

- Bruno the wog (Kingswood Country) comes from here.

- Doesn't have a huge bunch of metrosexuals sipping lattes on Bondi or generally in Melbourne.

- Has 4, yes that's right, 4 McDonalds incl a 24hr one.

- Is surrounded by towns with good names. Like Grong Grong, Wantabadgery etc.

- Is the largest inland city of New South Wales...yep that's right.

- Has a beach with stunning views of the other side of the river.

Just much better than Melbourne and Sydney.

Melbourne is set out better for those that live there. I studied it in Planning early this year, not well might i add, but good enough to understand the grid of the city and how well the road system works. I also know that for various reasons that the roads in Sydney are utter shit. Simple ways of fixing them but business and government are ruining them. Public transport is pretty shocking in Sydney too. So to live in Sydney, you need to live somewhere nice or your just stuck in suburbia and you miss all these "great" things that you pro-sydney guys keep going on about.

For a holiday and entertainment however, I'd be going to Sydney every time. Been to both underage and overage, with family, by myself and with mates. Sydney CBD is miles better IMO. So much more fun. When you're relaxed and can enjoy the city, Sydney certainly is better. Melbourne is more livable.

O and if you guys are going to mention Newcastle and Wagga you're absolutely mad. May as well attempt to talk Adelaide up...

Mate, as much as I love Newy, it's not going to get anywhere near winning this war.

Can't really throw my two cents worth in to the SYD vs MEL war, been to Sydney many times, but only to Melbourne twice, to the International Airport in fact.

I mentioned this a while back you do not hold every sporting trophy in the country.

You can't hold the NBL title since the South Dragons went under therefore the title is vacant.

Victoria holds the netball, League, AFL(even though it's not Melbourne it's Geelong), A-League and the Sheffield Shield.

Ok I'll let you keep the AFL even though a Melbourne team doesn't hold it.

You don't hold the Ford Ranger Cup, KFC T20 Big Bash, The National Youth League(Football) and The W-League.

I don't care about the NBL used to follow the Kings in the 90's when it was good.

But if he's gonna say that they hold every sporting trophy in Australia then I'll bring it up. Just using it as an example to back up my point that they don't hold every trophy.

You followed the NBL when you were 8-9 tops because of the quality? :-s

But they DO hold that trophy anyway. It shows how weak the NBL is, that a side can win and then flop. The Kings were by far the biggest team in the NBL and they also couldn't last. A melbourne team were the last team to win the title. Simple as I'd have thought.
