Liverpool Ready To Bid For Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery

After expressing concern about the massive spending occurring all over Europe, Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is set to make a move for Franck Ribery.

According to The Telegraph, Benitez is planning a €46 million move for Ribery, who has attracted the interest of Real Madrid all summer. However, Los Merengues seem to have run out squad places, if not money, thus ruling out a move.

The story appears to have some credence, on the back of news that leading British bookmaker Skybet have dramatically slashed the odds on Ribery joining Liverpool, just as they did the day before Michael Owen joined Manchester United.

However, Bayern Munich have remained adamant in their refusal to sell Ribery for anything less than an enormous sum, even though the French international has reportedly stated his intention to leave.

This news will no doubt raise questions about the futures of Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano. Liverpool want to keep the pair, but their tight budget means Benitez - who has already splashed more than £17 million on Glen Johnson - will have to sell before making another big buy.

 A bookie slashes odds, therefore hes coming? Hardly.

So what if they were right with Owen. He was spotted at OT and all other kinds of nonsense. This is just conjecture.

First of all I didnt here it from you at all, my best mate texted me the rumor and then the signing as I was on the Central trip. Second of all just when you were starting to sound half decent you resort back to typical Jim Smith transfer wet dreams again. Its almost as bad as you tactics and team line ups.

Seeing as we are on Jim Smith topic I dont think Liverpool should sell Pennant because he has been doing quite well for them on FM 09 this season and leads them for assists

The only way Liverpool are going to be able to afford Ribery is if they sell Alonso AND Mascherano. You do that , and your team is weaker, even if Ribery comes in. Would be a stupid move from Rafa. Therefore, reckon it's true:p

If Abou Diaby could stay injury free he'd be ideal, the guy is an absolute beast on the pitch. His all round game is superb, shame last season he spent most of his time partnering Song or Denilson or stranded out at left mid. Diaby and Fabregas in the middle would be awesome with both firing.

Diaby gets too flustered when a player runs straight at him. Other than that, I like the way he plays.

- Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez does not expect to make any further signings for 'big, big money' after being linked with a bid for Franck Ribery.
- An early one from the papers on Saturday morning sees reports suggesting Manchester City are ready to increase their offer for Chelsea captain John Terry to £32million. A good offer, but still well short of what he's worth to Chelsea.

0927 BST: Real Madrid had hoped to continue their incredible spending spree with the £65m signing of Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, but Reds boss Rafa Benitez rejected the bid.
Full story: People

Chelsea and England captain John Terry has demanded the opportunity to speak to Manchester City during crisis talks with Blues owner Roman Abramovich. (Various)

Liverpool have rejected an offer for striker Fernando Torres, believed to be around £60m, from an English club other than Manchester City, says Reds manager Rafael Benitez.

"It was a proper offer, a big one, but we said no and he wanted to stay here," said Benitez.

Alternatively, Liverpool have in fact received three such bids for Torres, from Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Well done Rafa for not selling Torres and trying as hard as you can to keep Masch and Alonso. However I can see one of the two leaving, and I think it'll be Masch. He is also easier to replace IMO. Cambiasso can come in for 15m, he offers more in attack then Masch does and he does his DM job as good as masch

The reports about torres offers are bollocks IMO. Man U wouldn't even bother making an offer for him. Real Madrid already have attacking players coming out their ears. End of.
A Rafa Benitez interview wrote:
Benitez said: "In this market now, money is not the main thing. Everyone at this level earns big money.

"If it's just for money sometimes you will make mistakes. I was surprised by some decisions this year, like Gareth Barry.

"I won't say too much but clearly it was 100 per cent for money. The most important thing for me is the passion of the players."

Benitez, who unveiled the capture of right-back Glen Johnson from Portsmouth on Thursday, also warned that acquiring star players will not necessarily assure glory.

Does Rafa need another lie-down?

Quite right, and you could say the same thing about Torres and Madrid. Torres is a known colchonero and would never play for Real. It would be a waste of time to chase him.

Cambiasso wouldnt suite the english game. Did OK in La Liga, but is more adept in the Serie A. Masch is much more all action anyways.

Cambiasso would get caught out too far up the pitch. The pace would be too much for him.

He already is. There is a contractual obligation which states he must be the highest paid player at the club.

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.
