IIRC, I called that one about a week ago. Fucking marvelous signing for them.

I'd take him - Bruce probably reckons he can get better for less through his contacts overseas.

Tbh, you could get Cisse back for less and he's twice the player Babel is. :( We should have never let Cisse go, he'd be great with Torres.

Still need a left winger, or to convince Kieran Richardson to play on the left. If he's going to play on the left then we need another central midfielder.

Someone like Matty Taylor would be grand. Or Edgar Barreto (I keep mentioning him, but he'd be value for money from NAC Breda) in the middle. Both would be available for a reasonable price and take well to the EPL.
Quote:
He made Diarra at Pompey. Theres no guarantee he'll even make the bench at Real. Lass has always had intentions of playing for the biggest clubs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Real, and now that hes at one, AFTER starring at Pompey, I think he'd like to stay. However I wouldnt rule out this move completely.

Madrid need someone who can anchor the midfield with all that attacking going on with the likes of Kaka, Ronaldo, Sneijder and whatnot. I seriously can't see him leaving anywhere, let alone a mediocre team like Tottenham. That said, he'd be one of my first choices to replace Masch if he leaves.

Cisse basically spent December-May glaring at linesmen for having the nerve to give him offside when he was ONLY 2 yards beyond the last defender - game after game after game.

15 million bid going in from Sunderland for Darren Bent. Appears Chamakh is staying put in France until one of the big 4 comes calling (hopefully not).

Funny thing about Dgibril... First half of the season he went through the colours like a mad man - green, white, red, blue, black - and was very good... Second half of the season, he stuck with the same colour and was shite.

I'd still rate Mahamadou Diarra as a good replacement for Makalele. Only problem was he was injury prone, hence signing Lassana.

Quote:
Pellegrino would have to be hitting the crack pipe hard if he sells Diarra, can't see Kaka, Ronaldo or Robben doing any of the dirty work in midfield.

Not.Going.To.Happen.

Hopefully Mahamadou can come back from his injury woes and partner up along side Lassana...unless we get that little bit of cover we all want.

15?? Cool,Real want up to 17 for the Hunter..

Spurs want Huntelaar or Crouch
27 July 2009 | 06:50 - AAP
ARTICLE
Tottenham's pursuit of Portsmouth forward Peter Crouch hit a stumbling block Sunday over the transfer fee, but Spurs manager Harry Redknapp is continuing to chase Real Madrid's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar as an alternative striking option.

Redknapp said that signing both is unlikely unless he can raise funds by selling Darren Bent, who is looking to leave.
Crouch's return to Spurs nine years after the club sold him would reunite the England international with both Redknapp and fellow striker Jermain Defoe.
"They want to sell him, it's common knowledge they need to sell him," Redknapp said. "I don't think they're crazy demands - it's a fair deal and his wages are fine. It's just agreeing a fee is a stumbling block.
"It's up to us whether we are going to pay what Portsmouth want for him."
Redknapp, who had two stints as Portsmouth manager, initially brought Crouch to the south coast club from Liverpool last July. Since taking charge at Spurs in October, Redknapp has already bought Defoe from Portsmouth.
Crouch failed to make the first team at Tottenham, before spells at Queens Park Rangers, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Norwich, Southampton and Liverpool.
He spent three years at Liverpool, but struggled to secure a regular first-team place last season following the signing of Fernando Torres, and moved to Pompey.
Portsmouth manager Paul Hart said selling the 28-year-old Crouch would help to balance the books following a period of heavy spending under Redknapp.
Tottenham told Real Madrid that it remains interested in signing Huntelaar as it weighs up whether to sign the 25-year-old Netherlands striker or Crouch.
"It's one or another unless we have big offers. Darren (Bent) is looking to go but it's up to people to make the offer," Redknapp said. "My interest in Huntelaar is serious, definitely. We have spoken to them and the fee is somewhere between STG15 ($A30.39) and STG17 million ($A34.44 million) pounds I don't know which is more likely to happen.
"Maybe one of them, maybe none of them."
Redknapp is also chasing former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira, who is currently at Inter Milan.
"He would bring presence to the club and the team, stature and a big personality," Redknapp said. "He's won everything and he would be fantastic."
Redknapp said the 33-year-old Frenchman's nine years with north London rival Arsenal is not an obstacle.
"It's testament to the character of the man that he wants to play for Tottenham. What a man," Redknapp said. "He's earning a fortune at Inter. It probably won't happen though. He can convince the fans, of course he can ... people would look at him and say: 'What courage that he would go and play for Arsenal's greatest rivals."'
Tottenham also needs to find a center back to cover for injuries to Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson.
Celtic exposed Redknapp's problems at the back Sunday when Chris Killen and Georgios Samaras scored to secure a 2-0 victory for the Scots that enabled them to win the inaugural Wembley Cup, which also featured Spanish and European champion Barcelona and Egyptian side Al Ahly.

As opposed to Babel doing it from August-May? That doesn't change that we took a massive loss on Cisse and Babel is an inferior player.

Agree on the over-priced thing - but you pay what has to be paid to get the player you need. We need a goalscorer. Bent's record in the EPL is around a goal every other start.

Further news on the deal - he was on the plane with the Spurs squad yesterday, ready to fly out to China. Was ordered off the plane and baggage was removed 20 minutes prior to take off as 'talks are progressing'.

Reports suggest Everton will reject a new approach from Manchester City for Joleon Lescott.

Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg have agreed a €10.5million (£9m) fee with Newcastle for Obafemi Martins.

Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena's move to Napoli has been delayed due to the player's wage demands.

Hull City manager Phil Brown insists it would take a 'ridiculous' bid to prise Michael Turner away from the KC Stadium, Liverpool and Arsenal are interested.

Lyon are set to sign French international striker Bafetimbi Gomis on a five-year deal.

Real Madrid striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been linked with a move to Arsenal after reports in Spain suggested he was keen to join an English club.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has reiterated his desire to keep hold of midfield star Lee Cattermole, who is wanted by Liverpool as an Alonso replacement.

I wouldnt mind Cattermole, but he is more of a mascherano replacement and less of alonso type player, but I would like him at our club he is young. Michael Turner is also a decent defender, but id much rather spend money on wingers or forwards. Our backline is decent - johnson, agger, skrtel, carragher etc. we should make a move for silva

If that happens there should be an investigation into Chimbonda. Spurs to Sunderland and back to Spurs in the space of 6 months, then onto Hull within another 6 months. Very suspicious behaviour.

What are you inferring?

Just that it seems very strange that a player would be leave a club because he isn't getting first team football, then go back to the same club 6 months later, then leave again 6 months later because he isn't getting first team football.

FIFA have rules in place about players moving too often - I'd say that 3 'permanent' moves in the space of 12 months - including being sold twice by the same club, seems very strange.

Well the only reason that he's getting away with it is that he can't play for more than two CLUBS in a 12 month period. I'd like to see that changed to that you can't make more than two 'permanent' transfers within 12 months. Ie. He'd be stuck at Tottenham until January. Because it is, as you say, very suspicious, benj.

If we buy Cattermole, I will seriously rage.

It's rafa going backwards in quality of midfielder target. Alonso>Barry>Carrermole....pretty soon we'll see Joey Barton linked to Liverpool.
Not that I have anything against Cattermole, he has "the quality" - that look of ability - when you watch him play. He just doesn't have enough of it to play at Anfield.
