Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly willing to open up his coffers to bring in Atletico de Madrid striker Sergio Aguero and Monaco midfielder Jerko Leko for a speculated priced of £55 million, according to The Sun.

The Blues have hit an indifferent patch of form that has seen them register only one victory in their last six games in all competitions. And with Didier Drogba and other stars heading out to the African Cup of Nations soon, Abramovich is reportedly poised to take a big bite out of the transfer market pie.

However, it is believed that the Russian is in no mood to be held to ransom by the clubs that currently own his transfer targets, and has consequently listed a number of players as second-choice options.

Ajax hitman Luis Suarez, Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi and Everton starlet Jack Rodwell are all said to feature in the west London club's backup plan.

A source from the club allegedly said: "Abramovich has drawn up a list of options for the New Year.

"Atletico are asking silly money. If they don't get real Roman will switch to Suarez and try to do a deal with Ajax instead.

"It's not just strikers, though. Jerko is the one they are looking at to come in as a defensive midfielder, although De Rossi and Rodwell are also on the radar.

"So it should be a busy time because the desire is there, the money is there, the options are there."

De Rossi recently reiterated his allegiance to the Giallorossi, claiming that he would like to remain at the Stadio Olimpico for the rest of his career.

Galatasaray midfielder Arda Turan has admitted that he would like to make a move to Liverpool in the near future.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a series of high-profile clubs, following stellar performances in the domestic circuit. But the Istanbul outfit have so far held onto their hot prospect.

The Turkey international was reportedly mentioned as a possible target for Rafael Benitez, and has declared that he would welcome a switch to Anfield.

"When I've finished my business at Galatasaray, I will be happy to play in Europe and represent my country there," Turan said, according to the News of the World.

"I most want to play at Liverpool because of the culture of the club and the fans - and the fact that they have red shirts attracts me."

Ronaldinho's brother, Roberto Assis, has been seriously approached by Botafogo about a transfer from AC Milan.

Mauro Azevedo, a transfer consultant in Rio de Janeiro, today disclosed this information to Globoesporte.

He said, "Botafogo made a formal bid, which was bold and feasible.

"It's all black and white, so this isn't just a rumour. Assis himself is clearly happy with it and I think that it can go ahead."

Botafogo's interest in the former Barcelona man is well-known, with their ability to pay his wages hinging on a series of sponsorships and commercial opportunities said to be in the works.

CHELSEA, AGUERO, FILL IN THE GAPS
It seems slightly churlish to have a pop at the gents of the press for being lazy given the day, but there isn't too much new gossip around this morning.

The Daily Mirror reports that Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United will be offered the services of one Sergio Kun Aguero in January, because Atletico Madrid want to get rid of him sooner or later in order that they can sign his replacement, a Mr Eduardo Salvio of Lanus, apparently.

All three clubs are keen for different reasons, but there are snags aplenty, largely involving the amount of money Atletico require.

Another paper who seem convinced that Chelsea will buy is The Sun, who claim they might be interested in Luca Toni, who will shortly be booted out of Bayern Munich.


LIVERPOOL WANT/NEED A STRIKER
More "No S**t" news in The Daily Mirror now, who report that Rafa Benitez wants to sign a striker pretty bloody quickly.

And he has three men in mind: Emile Heskey, who has the advantage of knowing the halls and being cheap, Kenwyne Jones, who has the advantage of being better than most people think, and Roque Santa Cruz, who has the advantage of being dashingly handsome.

However, there are problems, largely involving one or all being either too expensive or unavailable.

Arguably a more interesting line from the story is the idea that Liverpool will also make a move for Valencia's outrageously talented winger Juan Manuel Mata, but again he might be too expensive.


BELLAMY TO SPURS
More reheated stuff now, and The Times reports that Spurs are after Craig Bellamy, who is reportedly more unhappy than most about the shenanigans at Manchester City.

And they seem to base their speculation on the following quote from Harry Redknapp:

"He is a winner, isn't he?" Redknapp said. "He can be a bit of a nuisance, but he's a nuisance when you play against him."

TOSIC TO BE SOLD
Whoever Manchester United's man in Serbia is might not be used an awful lot in future.

With the deal for Adem Ljajic already called off, The Daily Mirror reports that United are also close to flogging his old mate Zoran Tosic.

Tosic has barely featured for United since signing a year ago, and will be sold in the coming transfer window 'if they get the right offer'.
