Naismith to Everton
Quote:
Everton have completed the signing of Scotland international Steven Naismith on a free transfer.

The 25-year-old was available on a free after rejecting the transfer of his contract from Rangers to the newco formed by Charles Green.

As reported by Sky Sports on Tuesday, West Ham United, Stoke City and Wigan Athletic were all understood to have made contact with Naismith, but the lure of linking up with former Rangers team-mates Nikica Jelavic and David Weir appears to have swayed his decision.

The former Kilmarnock forward has not played since October after suffering damaged cruciate knee ligaments.

He underwent extensive medicals at Everton's Finch Farm training ground before penning a four-year deal with David Moyes' men to become their first summer signing.

"'It is a great honour to be joining a club of Everton's wonderful history and to have the chance to play with such a talented group of players in the world's best league: the Barclays Premier League, in front of such a passionate group of fans," Naismith told the club's official website.

"I look forward greatly to working with the manager David Moyes and all the staff at Everton and working hard to deliver on the pitch to repay their, and the chairman Mr Kenwright's, faith and belief in me."

Manager David Moyes added: "We are delighted that Steven has agreed to join us. He will be an excellent addition to the players we already have and we look forward to him being fit and ready to play at the start of the season.

"He is an established international who can play in a number of positions. He has a flexibility we always like in our players and which will hopefully prove to be very useful for us."

Simao and Maniche both played at Atletico and were average.
Quaresma played at Inter and was poor.
Meireles did quite well at Liverpool.
Postiga flopped at spurs.

Second this window, third if we count Morrison, that was such a promising youth squad too. At least we still have Tunnicliffe and the Keane boys though.

Sooner or later you've got to give the younger lads a chance and can't keep relying on Scholes to be there.

But looking at Pogba, his attitude wasn't that great anyway.

So many players have been given a chance at a young age in this team. Rooney, Welbeck, Evans, Giggs, Scholes, Fletcher, Rafael, De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Cleverley, probably more and that's just from the current squad, I would say all of them made the debuts as teenagers, Smalling maybe aside?

I know what you mean and agree fully but the time needs to be right and looking at that list, he isn't afraid to throw them in. If one or two like Pogba don't get their chance and move on, so be it, he more than makes up with for it with other players.

None of them were rivalling Scholes for a position though. Cleverley made his 'breakthrough' at another club. As did Jones, Smalling, De Gea, Rooney, Welbeck and Evans.

In fact, the only players on that list that Fergie gave a chance to were Rafael, Giggs, Scholes and Fletcher...and Rafael was only out of necessity.

So out of all that, Fergie hasn't developed a young up-and-comer himself since Darren Fletcher...and he made his debut 10 years ago. Think about that shit.

When is it just about putting them in and that's it. Fergie isn't looking for a quick fix, developing a player can sometimes take years. Sending players out on loan like he did with Evans, Cleverley and Welbeck is a part of that.

Sir Alex stated that if Pogba was to agree a deal he would be sent out on loan at some stage throughout this season.

Again, I know what you mean but when one or two young players leave, it is natural for a fan to question and ask is he looking to the future but as history shows, Sir Alex does give young players a fair go. It's just a shame that we have lost enormous quality in Pogba and many believe he should have done more to keep him, that's the managers decision.

I see your point, but Fryers had been rumoured to be leaving for longer than we have been rumoured to be after Baines. It's more a refelction of the current generation imo, money talks, a few of these players have demanded high wages without earning them and Fergie has rightly refused it. Just contrast the mentality here with the class of 92...Giggs, Scholes, The Nevs, Becks etc, it's sad really.

Kewell and Schwarzer made a good point about this in the latest FFT mag, the younger generation tend to make career decisions around money and not football, and as a result they can develop egos and hinder their development by thinking they've made it as a footballer just because their bank accounts are healthy.
