You're right and as a GCU bloke that's always going to be in my mind. However, I'm not going to cut my nose off from ordinary supporters like you or myself. These guys turn up matches week in week out, they're the heart and soul of the club, of football itself.

If the RBB all fucked off tomorrow Boban, how long would the club last? I hear it didn't go too well on the Gold Coast which attracted 5-8k regular, comparable to Heart numbers, before the cap. I don't think supporters quite realise how powerful they can be. I hope this doesn't turn into a shitfight over Gold Coast numbers because that wasn't the point of that particular comment.

The smartarse answer to your first question is; at least 3 years. In all honesty, I reckon it would do just fine without the RBB, but that is something that we will never have to worry about. Whilst some people will come and go, there will always be someone coming through to fill the void.

The RBB are not the be all and end all of WSW and neither is active support for any club. Obviously, CCM has been able to survive without active support and they have but a fraction of the people that WSW has available to market the game to. On top of that, the West is a huge football area. It would just be different.

That said, the RBB is an important part of the match day experience for the people that attend. The strength of WSW is not the RBB alone, but rather the sum of its parts. There are many passionate supporters who sit in the stands with their friends and family and their primary focus is what is happening on the field, not off it. They also form the majority of attendees albeit much quieter than the RBB.

Without the RBB crowd numbers will near enough half. Without us, GCU numbers will still half, to 250, but won't cause massive loss in profit. RBB will cause financial problems if they leave. The Mariners do have some form of active support (apparently) but if their numbers left, it wouldn't have such an effect on pockets due to their numbers as a ratio of the rest of the ground. There's a lot of you, you do have quite a controlling stake in the club which was supposed to be the point from the beginning (community club etc).

why is it that, gcu supporters have filled up this thread and suggest that the rbb should play hardball with the ffa and make a breakaway if they dont get to bring an oversize flag FFS.

I think you are overplaying the importance of the RBB in terms of crowd numbers. Like I said, it would be very different but we would would eventually be bigger than CCM irrespective of the presence of active support.

Boban, I don't think I am, I think that the A-League relies a lot on promotion through its active support and has based its whole advertising on it. The RBB has massive respect from football fans all over the country for its displays, its passion; they've earned my respect and their club replaced mine! WSW's commercial (and possibly even the A-League's) recent success certainly has a lot to do with the RBB, I've no doubt in that. Numbers wise, they make up a significant portion, certainly more significant than at most clubs.

They are a powerful bunch, they've yet to realise it.

Thankfully, I don't think we will ever find out just how significant a role the RBB play. The RBB is going no-where other than wherever the team may wander.

Off public and private buildings and structures all over Sydney!

Put a SFC sticker on your car and drive around and park all around the Sydney metro basin. Odds are, eventually you'll get a RBB sticker on your car for free!

Thanks to JAR for coming on OTP on Monday, it was great to hear his perspective. I've started listening to the ATB podcast in the last week, really liking it.

There's been some discussion about the longevity of WSW after the initiation and help from the FFA and exceptions with the number of imports allowed?

Could WSW go the way of Northern Spirit? What's going to happen when WSW tries to establish its own independence without the FFA's help?

The imports thing won't really hurt the club much tbh.
