Really glad someone questioned the AFL expansion strategy into Sydney. I dont think it could work for HAL and dont actually think its the best approach. I think they spent too much time burning funds and making little in roads. I believe they were better off saving some of the funds and making a louder bang through marketing their first season.

If I enjoyed AFL and Football on an equal level, I would be more excited about WS than the Giants. Why? Because the way the FFA has approached it with community forums and essentially letting the fans decide key details. Further over the next few months we will be bombarded with WS announcements from the board, first coach and all player signings. Over the next 5 months thye FFA can hit the media and WS quite hard with announcements to gain significant momentum prior to the season.

from what i understand, they have one more fan forum tomorow and thats them done.
a coach and ceo should be named very soon, within the next 2 weeks apparently.
as for the mining magnate, im not sure. lyall gorman did say they are looking at various community ownership models, and it appears he is in favour of the south sydney rabbits model, as he keeps mentioning it. from the various forums i attended, it appears that the ffa are in this for the long haul, though a nice big bag of cash may change this.
they asked the people at every forum about personel within the team, and a large majority, well every single forum actually, said to have a large number of players from western sydney mixed with players from the NSWPL, mixed with some experienced players (preferably from western sydney also), i also expect you could throw some free transfers in that list.

Now that Lowy and Tinkler have finished their acrobatics complete with double backflip to much applause from the fans and the Joint A League Soccer Circus has begun its death defying performance without even a minor accident I thought it might be time to return to arguably the most important event in the short history of the A-League, the establishment of a new professional football team in the western region of Sydney. Where is it up to? How is it going? When will we hear more? If a mining magnate walked in the door with a fist full of cash would we point him in WSFC's direction or tell him to piss off back to Queensland? How important is it for the new club to have seasoned professionals or Australian icons amongst its ranks as role models for the talented young westies that get a gig with the club?

Aye, but Wellington had half the squad of NZ Knights (the half that weren't shite) most of the administrative side, a coaching team, (if you recall ricki herbet worked wonders with the NZ Knights in their last half a dozen matches) Western Sydney do not, and so they have much more of a challenge ahead of them than Wellington.

Phoenix played their first pre-season warmup about 4 months after NZ Knights' last game, from memory.

Western Sydney have more time than that to pick up GCU's slack from scratch.

Lawrie is definitely coming back to Australia.

Lawrie would be a good choice as 'Football Operations Manager'. The style of play isn't set by this person but by the technical director or first team manager. Lawrie is exactly the type of person you need to connect to the old NSL clubs, schools, grassroots clubs, the local media and the local community.

Another for the role would be Bozza - who has a real West Sydeny connection but is probably too tied up with Fox.

The desire to make a career out of being a football manager was one of the reasons he left CCM as TD.

And yes I would have thought WS would want to see an attractive style of play. A whole lot of youth born and raised in the west playing good football and seeing them go overseas and succeed seems to be the general culture i'm getting

Most definitely, that's why I think almost every fan would be against McKinna being named manager.

Yeah he'd be best as a TD for sure. Although I can see why they would look at him as a possible appointment. That being said I don't think there's anything to it. I haven't seen anything anywhere apart from that one brief little story on FSN.
