Why is everyone forgetting Poljak?
The Poljak/La Rocca combo when on-song is unstoppable.

The Frenchman wrote:Signing Troisi would be an interesting move. Where would Bridge then go? The guy is in pretty decent form, captained in the trial and is on a long term contract. Would be a diabolical front 4 though, if Castelan, Saba and Troisi all played to even 75% of their capacity and can supply Juric then we will be unstoppable. We do need someone in partnership with La Rocca that can hold up play a bit more and is a bit more creative. LB is still a real problem, but the best in Golec could be brought out by Popa, and if it is then he will command that spot. Meggsy got frozen out last season even though he was captain. So if Troisi pushes out Bridge, I can see Popa making the call. Also agree with Poljak/La Rocca combo.

Poljak and La Rocca are similar box to box types of player. Better for the system to have a deep playmaker sitting next to one of either.
At any rate, prefer Poljak over La Rocca myself.

At any rate, prefer Poljak over La Rocca myself. Don't forget when we tried having Mooy back there (as a deep lying playmaker) accompanying either Poljak or La Rocca, we struggled to win in the midfield. When you are using the wings and an actual no.10, you don't need a deep lying playmaker aswell. You need an engine room to do all the work, get the ball to the wings or the no.10 and go from there. Pirlo works as a deep lying playmaker because he has 2 box to box midfielders alongside him doing all the work. But there is no traditional no.10 in the Juve set up (they play with 2 strikers). So it works there. but Popa's 4-2-3-1, the 2 are definitely more effective as defensive midfielders/box to box and not a playmaker. Hence why keeping Poljak/La Rocca together is key for the WSW structure, with Saba (for instance) in front of them. La Rocca can pass too when he wants to.

Given the set up you've described there tends to be a discernible gap between the two DM's and the front 4. The 10 and wingers seldom come deep to get the ball, so we are often left with a ball over the top for the wingers to chase. I can't tell you how many times I saw this done last season.
I can only speak for what I know, but the model I'm alluding to is Bosna.
They have Pjanic as a deep playmaker next to Besic who is a conventional DM. Ahead two wingers and a number 10. Ball comes out from the back to Besic who gives it to Pjanic in space. The play is more fluid because Pjanic has no problem threading balls around considering his good mobility.
Envision a player of Kranjcar's quality sitting next to Poljak/La Rocca and you see where I'm going.
Edit; the limitations of the Mooy experiment has more to do with Mooy himself than the system I would suggest.

WSW should organise friendlies with big name clubs from around the world, not state league teams all the time.

Doubt the FFA would have wanted to pay for us to go overseas or host and by the time the new owners came in, it was too late to organize it. My theory anyway

Would be interesting as the temptation to play friendlies against a big club at ANZ would be huge.

Those don't look like legit kits. Badges are all sewn on and the club badge is in the wrong place. However id be happy with the away strip so long as they are done properly. I was hoping for something a bit more exciting, and from what the club was saying it looked like we might get it, but now maybe not.

My theory anyway I wouldn't mind a big name friendly or two for the general non-footballing masses but personally, I think it would be best if they organised friendlies only with state teams from Western Sydney. As they are currently the only A-League club representing the West, this allows them to continue to get free advertising in all the local papers when they come to play a local team; free publicity in the football clubs (and particularly to the juniors) in each of the districts they play; and continue to forge ties with old soccer, allowing them to tap into a large and active potential supporter base. If they gave free tickets to every player under 16 registered in the district they played to come to a trial match, imagine how many kids you could help convert to serious supporters.

They'd have to pay a nothing fee of $250,000 to the FFA, on top of any standard match and event fees if they want to do anything with a big name international club. Its because they dont want another Liverpool-Victory game where victory youth upstaged the all stars team and hurt the FFAs ego :-$
