Round 6

North Star 3-1 North Pine
Fairgrieve double kick-starts North Star's season

University of Queensland 1-0 Eastern Suburbs
Uni continue hot streak with the defeat of unbeaten Easts

Rochedale Rovers 2-3 Redlands United
Redlands stun Rovers in deserved win thanks to Fyfe brace and late Dennis winner

Olympic FC 1-2 Peninsula Power
Power win their 5th game on the bounce at previously unbeaten Olympic

Souths United v Brisbane City: Tuesday 8:30pm

Capalaba P-P Lions FC

Taringa Rovers P-P Wolves FC

What a day today has been in the Veto League with the only three remaining unbeaten teams all defeated. No games were played on Saturday this weekend due to the Roar finals match.

As for the task of providing photos of local grounds..... googling the ground names tends to only get you little snapshots of the park as opposed to the whole thing - but perhaps over the course of the season I could put a little album together......

Very interesting result, but the highlights suggest that Wolves were probably the better team on the day. Hopefully it will be a close contest between the two for the title - something that hasn't happened in the last 2 years.

Round 6

Wolves FC 0-2 Rochedale Rovers
Goals from Reuben Way and Cody Lovell enough to end Wolves' winning start to the season

Peninsula Power 3-2 North Star
Player Coach Warren Moon's late penalty sends Power fans wild as they claim another 3 points

Brisbane City 1-1 Taringa Rovers
A much improved performance from Taringa is almost enough to win the game at Spencer Park

North Pine 1-3 Capalaba
A first win for coach Brian Hastings in the battle of the strugglers

Redlands United 3-4 University of Queensland
19 goals in 2 games for matches involving UQ as they surprise the Red Devils

Lions FC 6-0 Souths United
Lions punish a poor Souths team to claim their 2nd win of the season.

Eastern Suburbs P-P Olympic FC

although they might say that the QSL is of a good standard, we all know the strongest league in Queensland is the Veto League.. Brisbane Strikers included. What do you get out of winning 9-1 and 6-0 every weekend? especially when you're travelling so far to win so easy.

i was under no illusions that the QSL was a higher standard my question was, is that the reason why the strikers want out. Although from next season (i think) the Brisbane Roar and Gold Coast United (if they are still around) will have to field their youth team in the State League so that may give the QSL a bit of a boost, quality wise.

Yeah, Kenmore.. thats it.

A lot of aspects in consideration for 2013 Veto League spots though.. some tough criteria to be eligible. Will be interesting come the end of the year when applications are finalized.

Any newbies wanting to have a taste should definitely think about heading to the games between the big guns. Mind that some clubs charge admission and some don't - Wolves and Olympic I believe have a small admission fee while other clubs competing towards the top end such as Rochedale do not.

deejay - Beenleigh merged with Loganholme, who both would have been Division 1 clubs this year but with Loganholme's juniors and crowds will be a very attractive bid for the 2013 Veto League. I may have been off target with the Strikers rumour but I'm pretty sure that UQ were in talks with Kenmore (who only have junior teams) over a merger. They hit a stumbling block apparently, not sure what will happen now.

Strikers could also merge with North Star if they really wanted back in. We'll see come the end of September!!

Easts .

if you like rugby style kick and chase the ball into touch then easts are the club for you,
I have never seen a corner flag under so much pressure.

Taringa and Lions are near you just over at Indro as well. any game with Olympic and Easts will be a good watch... 5 min drive down the road from Easts you've got Capalaba and Wolves. If you don't want to go to many games, i suggest you head to the biggest games... the any games involving any two of: Rochedale, Wolves, Olympic, City. In particular Wolves vs Rochedale... always a highlight of the Veto League year.

If we're talking crowds minimalistix.. i can safely say that Eastern Suburbs got approx 1400 to their opening home game of the season.

Heresay that Strikers want back into the Veto League... of course with the change in nominations for 2013 and the clubs needing to have certain things to be able to apply for the league, a junior base being one of them... Strikers will not be allowed in the league.

We've had many clubs merge here in Brisbane simply for that, for example Uni of Qld has merged with Bennleigh if im not mistaken. Beenleigh a struggling Division 1 club and Uni of course on the Veto league without a junior base..

Yay for someone else who cares about the Veto League!

Rochedale were awesome on Saturday night at Lions, and from what I've seen of Wolves they look good to match them again this year. Unfortunately the likes of Olympic will probably be on the outer, making up the chasing pack.

Brisbane City, Redlands United, Eastern Suburbs and Peninsula Power will be scrapping in and around that 3rd to 7th region for the finals positions. Think there is a bit of a gap to the rest, but the league's newboys Lions and North Star are likely to improve once they find their feet - watching the highlights of Friday's match it looked like Royce Brownlie played a blinder.

Rumour has it Brisbane Strikers are coming back to the BPL for the revamped competition in 2013. Anyone else heard this?

Rochedale would get probably about 800-1000 to home games that i know of.. smaller clubs, next to nothing.

but don't worry about anything else anyone.. crowds are the be all and end all of all of our leagues.

First 4 rounds played, with the exception of games called off because of adverse weather conditions, and the table looks like this.

Football Brisbane - Veto League
Rank   Team   P   W   D   L   F   A   GD   Points
1   Olympic    4   4   0   0   17   6   11   12
2   Rochedale   4   3   1   0   12   3   9   10
3   Wolves FC   3   3   0   0   11   2   9   9
4   Bris City   4   2   1   1   14   7   7   7
5   Easts    3   2   1   0   9   3   6   7
6   Redlands    3   2   1   0   10   7   3   7
7   Peninsula    4   2   0   2   16   6   10   6
8   Souths    4   1   0   3   6   17   -11   3
9   Uni    4   0   2   2   2   11   -9   2
10   North Star   3   0   1   2   5   10   -5   1
11   Capalaba   3   0   1   2   1   7   -6   1
12   N.Pine   3   0   1   2   4   11   -7   1
13   Taringa    3   0   1   2   4   11   -7   1
14   Lions FC   3   0   0   3   3   13   -10   0

Wolves and Olympic both looking really strong with 100% records so far, Wolves impressive, dominant victories are something to behold. Defending league champions from last season where they started the season with 12 successive wins, breaking numerous records during the year, are my favorites to go back-to-back in 2012.

Lions, promoted this season despite the signing of former Coasty (CCM & GCU) Matt Osman are really struggling and along with North Pine are my spend a tough reason at the dirty end of the table. A battle between Souths United and newly promoted North Star will decides who rounds out the bottom 3 for me.

Its been a 2 horse race at the top of the league between Wolves and Rochedale in recent memories, both superior in all aspects in Brisbane football all the way down to the juniors, but my dark horses for this year's Veto League crown are both Olympic FC and Brisbane City. The bright lights are back on at Spencer Park, home of the Brisbane Azzuri from the old NSL days... and Goodwin Park is turning into a Greek fortress over on that side of town.

Props must go to Eastern Suburbs who this week had a grand re-opening of their home field and brand new facilities after having to start from scratch and rebuild after the Brisbane Floods tore through the club just over 12 months ago... congrats to Alan Hunter and all the background staff down there at Eastern Suburbs, tigers looking for a top 4-6 finish this year.
